Waiting For…

It has been a rough week. Some good, some bad. Now I’m waiting. Waiting on one last W2. Waiting on upcoming events. Waiting for calls to be returned. Waiting for mail to arrive.

On the good side of things. Happy Birthday Aunt Terri. Hope you have a good day tomorrow. My nephew is celebrating soon as well. Friends are getting married in three weeks and are throwing a convention to celebrate. So, that’ll be great fun.

Finances and health are balancing out. I’ll be starting Mirena next month, hopefully that will turn out well. One more bill will be fully paid of next month as well. Leaving us down to two, and halfway there monetarily. Looking optimistically towards tax return time, but I haven’t run any numbers yet.

Also waiting on winter. We had some solid ice on Friday last, but where’s the pretty snow? Tornadoes are not winter weather.

A Good Weekend

The convention went well. The panels were lightly attended, but fun. The parties had good music and silly dancing. The afternoon was full of boardgames, coloring and just plain relaxing. I had a good time hanging out with lots of good friends. And the con, once again, made enough to continue another year. DeCon 10 next year will be Cthulu’s year. Should be great fun.

Other than that. Not much to report. Ohio still hasn’t figured out what season it is for more than two days running. I didn’t come down with Con Crud. Tax papers are trickling in, hopefully that’ll go better than last year. Joints are feeling pretty good this week. Still need to eat better, but that statement actually means something completely different than it might have a few years ago.

New Shoes… Again

Returned previously bought shoes and got more solid and comfortable ones. And that’s about it this past week. Winter isn’t here yet, not really. Work is still recovering from December. Did have a big gyoza dinner with folk this past Saturday. Fighting off cold bugs with wheat grass juice.

This coming weekend is DeCon, an adult relaxicon, where I’ll be hanging out and helping to throw parties. Possibly playing board games. Mostly, though, relaxing.

Did go to the doc again, added another pill back. Didn’t want to do that, but I’m not sticking with my diet, and my wrist and elbow have lost a lot of range of motion. Tired of it. Just tired. So we’ll see if this helps or not.

28 Steps and a New Pair of Shoes

So, the escalators have been down all week at work. There are 28 steps between the first floor and the second floor, I counted on about the tenth trip up. Down isn’t bad at all, but working the information desk all week has put me up those steps so many times. Though our General Manager has a point, our butts will be nice and toned by the time they’re fixed.

Unfortunately, to make matters worse, I also did a rush job of buying new shoes on Monday. And got shoes that squeeze my feet just below the toes. I have to take them back, but until then, I’m working with numb pinkie toes and some serious discomfort in my left foot. Lessons learned… even if I don’t like shoe shopping, I should take more time to do it.

Had a good New Year’s Eve partying with friends and then have a nice relaxed evening on New Year’s Day with some same and some other friends. 2012 is starting out well, with plans not only being made, but set into motion. As with every year, we are determined to make this one better than the last.

Struggling to eat properly. It’s winter and I want warm comfort food, not raw salads. Fresh veggies to cook are also harder to find in good quality. I need new and exciting recipes or something. Hours are going to start dropping at the store soon, so that might give me more time to make proper food choices.

Two More Shopping Days Left

And it’s raining. So much rain this week. Winter has started with a week of 50+ degree weather and rain storms. Not even fun rain storms. No lightning or thunder, just wet. Not that I really want to drive in snow, but I really don’t like driving in rain either. And people are just as accident prone, either way.

Busy, busy work days. It makes the time fly by, but also makes breaks hard to come by. Lunch, no problem, but the 15s didn’t happen today. There’s just no way to have enough people working to take care of all the customers, so I just run from one to the next for 4 hours at a time. (Lunch break in the middle of the 8 hour shift.) Only have had one really cranky customer myself so far, and as it wasn’t my fault, so I passed it off to a manager without a guilty conscience.

Got the last bit of wrapping I needed, and will probably be making more Chex Mix tonight. I wanted to make stuffing, maybe next week. I do not want to brave the stores the next couple days any more than my work schedule requires. Looking forward to Christmas dinner with my Brother and family. Also looking forward to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

One Week To Go

Just over a week until Christmas. The store is busy, but I don’t work the evenings, so I don’t see the crazy. And I don’t have to work this coming weekend either – busiest weekend of the year. So, I’m excited about that, too. I do have a forty hour week next week, including Christmas Eve, but hey. Can’t have everything.

I saw an article in the newspapers I put out today about some churches not having services on Christmas Sunday because “people don’t want to be in church on Christmas.” Now, much to Mom’s lament, I am no longer a regular church attender, but for those that are, this seems a ridiculous sentiment. In fact, before I read this headline, I was considering doing just that on Christmas morning. It’s Christmas… I mean, I suppose, folk’ll go to Christmas Eve services the night before, and once in a weekend is enough for s, buomet to not have services on a Sunday, because it is Christmas, just seems a little bit backwards to me.

Okay, enough ranting, back to your regularly scheduled commercialization of Christmas… So far, I’ve bought clothes with Christmas gift money. Pants, gloves, hat and socks. If I’m lucky, I’ll also manage new shoes. On the topic of pants, I don’t understand my body, and I wonder if I’m just odd or if other women have this problem. I tried to go thrifting, but after two runs through the racks for three different sizes, I gave up and went to Meijer where sizes are easier to come by. I have always felt my upper body is too small for my lower body and pants shopping proved it. I could not find a pair of pants big enough for my thighs and hips, and yet small enough for my waist. I did the best I could, but I still need to find a good belt that doesn’t pinch my belly. Maybe that’s what I’ll do with the little bit still left.

First holiday potluck of the season tonight, I should get ready and head out to that. Have a safe and happy holiday season all the way through to the New Year.

Slow Week… for Me Anyway

I was trying to figure out what I’ve done in the last week worth posting about, and coming up pretty empty. Friends have had good things. One had a baby last week and is now home enjoying the addition to the family. One got a job she was after, raise and all. Another found out the job she wants hasn’t passed her by, they just haven’t started interviewing yet. Another friend got a job offer he had been waiting and negotiating for. The holiday season is bringing early gifts to a lot of people this year.

The Game Master’s Guide of The Legacy of Heroes came out this week. I helped with the play testing and editing of this book as well as the Player’s Guide. So we’re excited about that release.

I’ve done some of our holiday shopping. Still haven’t heard from my brother yet, but got the hula hoops Mom wanted. Have other gifts planned, but not purchased, and others I haven’t even begun to figure out yet. And, it seems to be the year for it, no idea when the family Christmas is going to be.

My elbow was driving me crazy today, but all in all, I’m doing pretty well lately. Taking my meds, eating fairly well. I’ve had headaches all week, but that’s another matter entirely. If I can just figure out how to get my wrist and elbow back to good shape, all would be well with my body.

So Much to be Thankful for

Last week, I had three Thanksgiving pot luck dinners with three groups of friends. I have such a great chosen family down here, it’s wonderful. On the weekend, I went to a Thanksgiving party (also potluck) with even more friends. There were over 90 of us there and plenty of people helped set up and clean up. An excellent time, celebrating a season of harvest and gratitude.

Sunday, I helped two friends move in with two other friends. The support we all give each other is amazing. Rich and I have always managed to find our next place to live without hassle, but I can’t even count the number of times my friends have gathered to help people out in emergency (and non-emergency) moves this year.

Rich and I also went to the new Muppet movie for Thanksgiving. It was cute and fun, with the theme of: life is great with people you care about beside you. And it is true. My life is so much better for everyone in it.

I got a call this week, from a staffing company who found my resume on Monster. And they asked me if I was interested in a full time data entry and analysis job for the county. Caught off guard, I wasn’t sure, but it could be good, so why not take a look. An Excel test was required to qualify, so she sent me an email with a link, and even less detail about the job. But an address, which I Googled, to find out what I might be looking at. The address brought up the county disability office and county special olympics office. Both could be good and useful places to work. I took the test on a mock up, pop-up of excel 2010, got three wrong, and waited. Today I got the call that they want to interview me… tomorrow. Excited, curious, nervous. And waiting on an email with further details. This could fulfill my goal of “meaningful job.” Both those offices help people. And it’s a real job, 40 hours a week, real wages, state benefits(unconfirmed). So, wish me luck and confidence.

I’m really not focused enough for anything else right now. Thanksgiving next week. Holidays fast approaching. No plans made. But fun to be had by all.
