Diet-wise, things are going alright, but not great. My elbow is still swollen, but everything else is doing fine and nothing is hurting. Drugs have been a little messy this week due to work issues and not being able to get a couple things refilled and worrying about others. So I haven’t had my shot, but I probably should do again soon to see if I can get this elbow down. Eating a lot of Yeast-Free, Spelt bread these days, toasted with soy butter and garlic salt for my snacks throughout the day. I’ve had a lot less raw food at home lately, I blame this on…well, myself. But Also on not having tuna to put into a tuna salad wrap. I was taking salads to work, but none of that now. Mostly doing stirfry veggies, or just warmed up frozen veggies for dinners. It’s heading into cold weather and I like warm food even more when it’s cold out. Need to look into a good Tomato-based soup recipe. ๐Ÿ™‚

Four moons of this diet and where am I? I reserve the right to edit this post when I’m not in such a foul mood from today’s work-related problem.

This weekend, aside from my elbow, my opposite ankle also swelled up, so on Sunday I took a 25mg shot of Enbrel. My elbow is still very swollen and my ankles both appear to have very minor swelling right now as I type this. I am back to my usual full dose of drugs and full of stress. It was my zag day this weekend, so that probably did not help matters. I keep saying I need to refocus on stricter eating guidelines and start exercising, but I’m also getting very frustrated. I suffer from a sense of entitlement, too… I want to be able to eat โ€œlike everyone else.โ€ I get attacks of โ€œit’s not fair!โ€ Then I go to, well, the drugs work, I can just take those and then I can do what I want. But as a very good friend pointed out, I started this diet because the drugs weren’t working, because I was having to take more drugs, not less. The cycle continues.

My zag was lovely party food Saturday night, Bob Evans’ steak burger for Brunch and an early dinner of lettuce wraps and Mongolian beef at PF Chang’s for dinner. I had a very fun weekend with friends and Rich and I finally got to see 9. It was a good movie, I need to watch it again when I’m not so tired, I think I only missed about 1/3 of it.

The week is not going as planned, but the majority of things are going well. I did find reasonably priced Almond Butter today. Delicious! I will be going to Unleashing the Power Within next month in Chicago. I go for inspiration, motivation and with any luck, useful information. My life is changing a lot right now, and a little affirmation wouldn’t hurt either. And who knows, maybe I’ll come out of it with a million dollar idea/novel/business model/financial plan. ๐Ÿ˜‰

A bigger update when things aren’t so up in the air, but for now…

As of September 20th, I will be a part-time shelver at B&N working 15-20 hours a week. The announcement at work says I am stepping down to “pursue other opportunities.” These “opportunities” include contract work with Bookup.com/ChessOpeningsSoftware.com, starting up my own professional blog,ย  taking more serious steps in my writing career, and a serious look at grad school at Seton Hill University.

That seems like a lot. Fifteen weeks…

This past week has gone fairly well. My elbow is still swollen, not terribly, and not painfully, but it won’t calm down completely. I haven’t decided what to do about that yet. A shot might help, but I really don’t want to. I did a lot of eating out, eating salads and such lately. Little too much bad stuff in my food, bread or rice noodles. I finally got groceries this weekend, lots of veggies and almonds. Still need to find reasonably priced almond butter. OMG that stuff is delicious. Regaining focus, though I’ve a zag day coming up this weekend. Schedule changes coming up. I’m trying to decide if I should how to set up regular exercise around a possibly newly regulated schedule. Come home at noon most days, if the pattern holds, exercise then eat lunch(or is it supposed to be the other way around?).ย  Then do my other jobs. It could work.

Dragon*Con. Most of this last week was taken up by being in Atlanta, Georgia at Dragon*Con. I had a spectacular time, attending eleven writing panels, getting Peter David and Alan Dean Foster to autograph books, listening to Tom Smith, going to parties… and yes, eating Alkaline. I took with me: almonds, romaine lettuce, snow peas, sesame basil crackers, barely ripe bananas and granny smith apples. For dinners I mostly at at a Japanese food court place that had a Delicious Soba Noodle Salad. Here and there, I had regular salads(Subway and Metro Diner). I was back on my full course(sans Enbrel) of drugs(Prednisone, Plaquenil, Arava, Naproxen) to get things back under control. I came home from the con feeling far better than when I had left, flares all gone and even my pesky cough has dissipated.

So I just posted about my flare over the weekend. It’s calmed down quite a bit now, but there’s still a little extra fluid there. Another day or two and it should be back to normal. Other than that, cravings and stress driving me a little bonkers, but I am recommitting myself to doing this, and getting healthy. All else, this week went fairly well, health and foodwise. I still haven’t started exercising, but, that may be coming, as I’ll be down to part-time soon, and might even have a normalized schedule of sorts.

I’m heading to Dragon Con in less than 24 hours. With me will be going almonds, organic sesame crackers, granny smith apples, bananas, sprouted grain tortillas, romaine lettuce, snow peas, celery, tuna (and miracle whip). I will be seeking out salads when I eat out, and will be drinking only water.

So, I cut the drugs off too soon, or too sharply, I guess. My right elbow, the one that started it all, was swollen most most of this weekend. Gave it a little Prednisone Saturday night, but it didn’t help enough. Nothing else is swollen, but a bit more achy than I’d like today, partially due to exercise yesterday, but partially not, I imagine. Going back on the half Prednisone, Plaquenil and Arava to calm it down and then see where I can go, more carefully this time. Big bowl of veggies for lunch, I’ll beat this yet.
