Summer is hitting full force. This past weekend we were hitting the 90 degree mark and occasionally passing it. The humidity came right along with it, too. Therefore, I stayed inside pretty much all the time. We didn’t get to go rollerblading like we hoped, nor out to Hocking Hills for a hike. It was too hot. A whole bunch of my friends, however, braved the heat for a camping trip. I was sad I could not go, but there were other things to take care of. By all accounts, it was a great time, with games and s’mores and smoked meats of various varieties. They’ve all told me I have to go next year. I’ll have to plan better so that I can. 🙂

I, instead, spent quite a lot of time playing WoW. I’m now level 80, and flying quite fast. Leveling goes far too quickly these days. I have so much more of Northrend yet to do, since I’ve never done it before. And yet, they’re trying to send me on, because I’ve outleveled most of the content. I’m stubborn though, and quite alright with doing grey or green level quests, and hitting max before I even get to Cataclysm content.  I’m also up to 64 pets. So close to the next milestone of 75. But there are 150, so quite a lot left to do there. Enjoying all the fishing and cooking and archeology, too. And 5 short of the next mount achievement of 50, as well.

Coming up: Father’s Day, Birthdays, Anniversaries, trips and conventions. A busy summer indeed.

I keep having all these big ideas and dreams about what I want to do with my life. And they tend to fizzle. I am too comfortable where I am. It’s scary to take those big steps. My college computer had a fortune taped to the monitor that said: Don’t be afraid to take that big step, but that monitor is gone now.

My contact point at Mongoose is leaving the company. I never have seen a contract. She said she’ll pass on my information, but not to who or when. Hoping not to get lost in the shuffle there, but I don’t know that I can do much to prevent it until I get an email from whoever the new person in charge of freelancers turns out to be.

I have all this web design information, but I rarely take the time to study it. Or, more importantly, practice it. The few folks who’ve expressed interest in my doing web work for them have fallen through. And it’s just so much easier to relax than worry about it.

I’m stuck in the trap of comfortable and stable. Like so many people. It’s hard to break through to movement from a full stop. But I want to keep learning, and doing and striving, so I’ll have to find a way.

Hunger Games, etc. May 17, 2012

I just finished reading Hunger Games. I got it free when I bought my nook Simple Touch. I found it to be excellent. I’ve always been one for survivalist kids books, and we meet Katniss heading out to the woods to hunt. So, I was at home immediately. Told in first person narrative, it draws you in, makes you identify with this young woman fighting to keep her family alive, even when she’s fighting for her own life, she is still worried about her family at home. Set in a dystopian future, where children are forced to fight to the death to prove the districts are powerless over the Capitol, the book is the start of a story of overreaching governmental power and the resulting inevitable rebellion.  I hope Suzanne Collins keeps up the good work and Catching Fire and Mockingjay are just as good. I am also curious how Hollywood played the story, might have to catch it at the dollar theater.

I also recently finished Promise of the Witch King by R.A. Salvatore. A Jarlaxle and Entreri story which takes the two to the northern wilds of Vaasa. Their interactions are incredibly entertaining as always. And Entreri starts to learn more about himself, letting the reader in on more of the private world of this enigmatic assassin. Next up, the finale of their trilogy – Road of the Patriarch.

Since last week, Rich and I have made our summer plans. We have a place to sleep at WorldCon, tickets to Boise for the week of July 4th and the weekend following it, and a plan for our Maine trip in August. Still working on the smaller stuff.

Weather is up and down and all over the place. Storms and hot or windy and cold, or sun and rain at the same time. It’s fun and mostly pleasant, so no complaints here.  Even the not so pleasant still tends to be pretty.

New financial year, means more hours at work. We’re reorganizing all the sections of the store to make them more shoppable and more shelvable. So, that’s loads of fun. At least we aren’t moving the sections again. Glowlights are shipping slowly, but surely. My store didn’t have a lot of reservations to go on.

Random pains the past week, but they’re never too terrible, nor too long lasting. New health food store up by work. Not sure putting it between Toys R Us and Costco is the best business plan, but ah well. Prices seem fairly decent and they carry my spelt, soba and powdered garlic. So, I’m happy. Though Ezekiel seems to have stopped shipping yeast-free bread to Columbus. Which is a bit sad.

Mother’s Day on Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day to Mom and Gale and my friends’ Moms and my friends who are Moms(that number keeps growing). Have a great weekend, you all deserve it. 🙂

Cold seems to have finished up, to be followed simply by allergy trouble. Yay, dust! And now my tummy is cranky, with food. Not that I’m not eating, just that it doesn’t seem to like anything I eat. Trying rice today, that’s completely neutral, right? We’ll see.

Getting on towards summer now. Temps in the 80s this week. Maybe warm weather will get me eating healthier. Without so much a desire for hot food. Just have to get past the stress eating habit as well. Mom’s retiring this summer, so I’m also having fantasies of homemade tomato paste this fall. 😉  There are so many farmers markets down here, plenty of tomatoes… will have to convince my brother to let them use his kitchen though, mine’s no good for that. Would also have to convince them to come down to visit in October, according to Google, that is the local picking month.

So much to plan for this summer, and we haven’t even begun. Need WorldCon roommates. Need Boise flight tickets. Need a Maine trip plan. And that’s just the big stuff. Really want to get to Cedar Point this year. Birthday plans. Anniversary plans. I don’t even know what I’m doing for Memorial Day weekend. <pipedream>  Anyone want to send me to England in June? ::laughs:: </pipedream>

We are in a new financial year at work, so hours are picking back up a little. Microsoft invested in our nook business, so that should be interesting. I’m still waiting for Love Sucks by Sage Collins to be available through the nook store. Cuz I’m stubborn like that.  Had a great time at the Chocolate Cafe with her, Shayera and their writing friends. Exquisite Corpse made for some very entertaining stories. A few even made sense.
