Had a nice time celebrating our 8th Anniversary this past weekend. We went to Avenue Q, produced by CATCO. If you’ve never heard of it, think Rent with Muppets. The main character has just graduated with a B.A. in English and is trying to find his way out in the real world of jobs, bills, relationships and layoffs.  We had a nice dinner at P.F. Changs, and then spent the evening at the dollar theater. We watched Men in Black 3, and Hunger Games. I really enjoyed MIB3, it had a good story, and kept you hooked til the very end. Hunger Games was a good, action packed overview of the book, but they skipped over so many important details, including getting you to care more about the main character than her little sister, but it was still fun.

This week has been a flurry of get ready for ChiCon 7.  WorldCon is being held in Chicago this year, and we’re going with a huge group of friends. It is going to be a blast. I don’t know a lot of the authors, but there are quite a few panels that look interesting. And it’s Chicago, so I’m sure we’ll have some pretty amazing food adventures as well.

I have my car back, good as new, though reeking of the cleaner they used on the dashboard. The Altima was interesting to drive, but I missed my Prius, and definitely want it for the Chicago drive. I’m doing pretty well myself, getting some Chiropractic care, and I’ll be good as usual in a couple weeks.

Family Vacation August 23, 2012

Had a really nice trip out to Maine to see my Dad’s family. Well, the visit was nice, the trip itself was ridiculously long. I misunderstood which roads to take, and our drive out took two extra hours, through lots of construction and over the George Washington Bridge in NYC. The drive back was much easier, and much less expensive.

Spent a nice three days listening to Grandpa, Dad and my uncles all tell stories of younger days. And my cousins talking about their growing families and plans.  My little cousins aren’t so little anymore. One of them shot up to 6’7″ while I’ve been gone.

We had a nice 90th birthday party for Grandpa on Friday with about 20 family members spanning four generations. A huge baked ham, mashed potatoes, salad and veggies for dinner, with a big homemade cake for dessert, topped with ice cream. The ham lasted the rest of the weekend.

It was a quiet weekend, nice weather, a little small town shopping and a long walk in the country. I finished reading The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress. And spent one afternoon playing Plants Vs. Zombies. I think we went through most of the CDs in the car along our 36 hours of driving, too.

And that’s all I was going to post, had it all scheduled to post while I was at work today. And then I got rear-ended trying to get on the highway. I hate that entrance ramp. She was all in a hurry to get to work so I only got her name, number and insurance information, which it turned out, included her home address because her husband is her agent. Forgot to get her car info or plate number until she was gone. I stayed, called police and insurance and filed all the lovely reports. The cop was annoyed at her for leaving without giving me all the info he needed, but ended up tracking down most of it with his computer and some help over the radio, after grumbling a threat of hit and skip into the air if he didn’t find it. Got to find out what the backseat of a cop car’s like though, all hard and slippery molded plastic seats.

I’m okay. Head aches a bit and my lower back and hips are a bit cranky. I’ll probably call up the chiro for a check. But should be fine with a bit of rest. Car’s going to need a new bumper, but I think that’s the extent of it. Just got new car insurance yesterday to start in September, too. So one last claim on Progressive, I guess. Ah, city life.

Quick post today. Had a great time with the family this past weekend for my nieces’ birthday party. Had dinner with the folks Friday night and dinner with Mary and David on Sunday. Got to see all the cousins and in-laws and have lots of melon and salad and cake.

Right now, we’re getting ready to head out to Grandpa’s 90th birthday! So I’ll get to see the other half of the family tree. It’s been five years, as usual, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone. Not sure how many of these we have left.

Happy Birthday everyone!

This past weekend was my calm weekend, before all the family trips and conventions. But I still had a lot of fun. Friday evening I went to an animal shelter to meet Ralphie, a very sweet rottweiler mix, that is now being fostered by some very good friends. Then we went to the Dublin Irish Festival, to window shop, listen to music and eat faire food. I had a bread bowl of beef stew and saw some really nice dresses and skirts, and lots of good wood carving. Saturday was spent watching the first four Harry Potter movies and eating lots of tasty food. From Pancakes and bacon to kettle corn, to guacamole to grilled hotdogs and hamburgers. A great time was had by all.

Sunday and most of Monday, I spent editing the new Races book for The Legacy of Heroes. I’m very much looking forward to playing my new Brownie archer on Tuesday. There are all sorts of new options, in race, bloodlines, setup, stances and magic items.

Also spent Monday getting my car ready for the trip to Maine. Oil change and new front brake pads. All set and ready to go. One more week and we’ll be on our way. But first, the girls’ party this Sunday. Happy Birthday, kiddos!

Spent the weekend at Cedar Point. Awesome birthday gift! Saturday night we road the wooden coasters. Blue Streak, Gemini, Mean Streak, Mine Ride and then we double dipped on the Millennium Force to end the night on a high note. Sunday, we were only going to be in the park for six hours, owing to prior commitments, so as a special birthday treat, we got Fast Lane passes. This allowed us to ride all 10 of the coasters we hadn’t yet hit (Dragster twice and Millennium Force again for good measure) and a few auxiliary rides as well: Power Tower up and down, SkyHawk, and WindSeeker. It was also the last day for Disaster Transport, so glad we got to ride it one more time. It was pretty awesome never waiting more than 30 minutes for a ride, and most of the time far less than that. I didn’t even spend too much money on junk food. We all had frozen custard on Saturday night – Wow, Delicious!  And then a hotdog and chips for lunch on Sunday. Water was about the only other thing we bought. And thanks to friends with season passes, the tickets were cheap too, and parking was free. Awesome weekend. Thank you!

Birthday gifts and cakes keep trickling in. Thank you everyone for that, too. It’s been a great celebration this year, and lasting longer than most. 🙂 I love it.  And soon to celebrate lots of other family birthdays!

So much coming up, trips, birthdays, conventions, our anniversary. I’m very excited, and working enough hours, we may even be able to afford most of it. 😉  Fingers crossed for gas prices around the third weekend of August.
