First week on the phones. Day one: WHY won’t the phone Stop Ringing??? Day two: This isn’t as bad as yesterday… Day three: I think I’m getting the hang of this… Day four: Did I do that right? I think I did…  And now it’s my weekend. First week completed without meltdown. Learning new things, and figuring out my mistakes, and being glad I made flashcards for a few processes.

At gaming we finished one adventure and dipped our toes into the next D&D campaign, as we were missing half our players. It was good fun. I see all kinds of awesome trouble brewing.  Finished Methuselah’s Children. Moon is a Harsh Mistress has a waiting list at the library, so I’m on to Time Enough for Love in the meantime. This one’s been a bit trickier, as it goes into long passages about genetics, and the narrator changes without warning quite often, though this is noted by a voice tone change, which helps, but is still confusing. Lazarus is still wonderful, though.

I spent the last weekend working on a To Do list, including a bit of tax refund shopping for clothes and a couple needful kitchen things, as well as a new lapdesk big enough for my laptop + mouse. I also finally cleaned out my “Donate This” corner. I actually managed to get everything done on it, except for finding a new pair of jeans.  This weekend is for putting together a stellar job application for OHC, and relaxing.

Late post this week because I’ve been busy and running around a lot to keep up with everything. Today my class finished training, ending with an hour of phone calls to test out what we learned and see if there was anything we missed, so we could ask before spending an entire shift on the phones. I took five calls in this time, and they all went pretty smoothly (the latter four more than the first, because I was nervously stumbling). I only had to clarify a couple things with our trainer, and everyone was happy at the end of the calls… Well, maybe not the claims rep who called to ask me a question that only her department can answer, but hopefully she found someone higher up her food-chain to ask. Sorry, we don’t handle those, Ma’am.

Did get back to Sprawl this week, too. Mowgli is busy getting the building next door renovated, and I dug back into the books. I’ve cataloged 767 books so far, and evaluated and bagged another two and a half tubs worth that are too old to have ISBNs. Looking forward to having a bit more time over there once my regular shift gets going.

Finished Stranger in a Strange Land, as well as The Man Who Sold the Moon, and have started into Methuselah’s Childern. Fare well, Mike and Mr. Harriman and well met, Lazurus Long.

Happy Easter to all my friends and family! 🙂

First week of training with Safelite. Learning all the things about Auto Glass. All the different kinds of glass in a vehicle. And auto glass claims. Deductibles and repairs and replacements, oh my. Going alright, but it’s a new power point for our teacher, and my fellow trainees have lots of questions, so we’re about 20 pages behind.  No big deal, hopefully. Did some observation today, lots of hail in Texas this morning.

Had a great time last weekend at Cleveland Concoction. All the usual Fleet stuff, and hung out in the game room, helping out with the Play to Win envelopes. It was a good time seeing friends from all over the eastern US. Even had the New England Captain out to visit. The usual fun with friends this weekend.

Finished The Rolling Stones and well into Stranger in a Strange Land. Both are excellent, with really good narration. 🙂

Last week before Safelite. So, I’ve put in double hours this week. Favorite boxes were Heinlein and Robinson, though there were only four of the latter. Hoping the second palette has more. Any rate, found some 1st mass market edition (all had previous hardcover editions) Heinlein’s that I thought I’d share:

This weekend is Cleveland ConCoction. Fun with friends, and fleet, and fans. Looking forward to it. 🙂  Started listening to The Rolling Stones today, enjoying it very much. Stranger in a Strange Land is next up.

Weather is crazy as usual down here in Ohio. It’s currently snowing as I type this, with rain in a bit, then go back to snow… it was 60 degrees earlier this week. Spring is just a nice day away.

So, really enjoying cataloging old sci fi at The Sprawl Library. Found a few more interesting titles this week: Muddle Earth (John Brunner), Fallible Fiend (L. Sprague de Camp), and Gremlins, Go Home! (Ben Bova and Gordon R. Dickson). And you’d think I’d have time to read them, but wait, there’s more.

Today I got a job with Safelite Auto Glass, as a part-time Customer Service Rep. I start training on the 14th, and regular schedule two weeks later… given my background check and pre-employment screening come back clean. As I’ve worked for a school before, not worried about any surprises showing up there.

So, yeah… I’ll soon be super busy. But, happily so. The schedules don’t match up perfectly, but well enough that I can keep helping out at Sprawl while also earning enough to keep afloat. They tell me it’s easier to get a job when you already have one, which seems to be true, let’s see how well that continues.
