Hi Readers! (No spoilers contained within.)

I’ve spent the last three days playing a MechWarrior marathon with my gaming group, and it was amazing. I really love my gaming group, and often, even when I don’t want to leave the house, going to gaming always cheers me up. This weekend, we went to see Infinity War together on Thursday and then played Friday night, all day Saturday and all day Sunday. We had a ton of laughs, tables of junk food, a lot of firefights, some arguing, a few big surprises, some moving moments, and a whole lot of heroics. In the end, we accomplished our mission, slowed down the enemy, and kept each other alive, though missing a few limbs. And every one of us is ready for the next installment.

In the regular world. My job is fantastic. My obsessive attention to detail is helping to improve our Research Guides, and has started a jargon discussion within the team. I’ve helped out a few students with their research and computer skills. We’re going to be checking out a new database on Monday. I’m pulling together statistics for our next Fiscal Year’s budget decisions. And I’m learning a lot about CSCC and its library.

April comes to a close with my first paycheck. And May begins with all my health benefits kicking in. I will also be upgrading my phone, and possibly my bed (some research required). May is going to be a very busy. First up, my parents are coming down, and I’m still working out if I’ve got time to drive up to my brother’s to see them. Second is MarCon on Mother’s Day weekend. Then we finish out the month with a big Memorial Weekend camping trip. I’ve also got at least two small conferences to attend for the library.

I did manage to start listening to Dead Beat on my drive to and from work, and on lunches. And The Magician came through from the library for my next book.

Forgot to post last week. So busy with the new job and last weekend was a party and board games. Played a new awesome one: Mansions of Madness 2nd edition with app integration.

Job is going great. Went to Ohio IR day and learned about some really interesting projects. Had a In Service day at work and got to learn about some really good programs we run. Including a new art-based preschool pilot this fall. My newest project has been making the research guides dynamically compliant with all browser sizes.

I went to skating class both last and this weekend, but there was no blades class. Last week I joined the lvl two class and worked on balance. This week I joined the adult class and actually used quads and worked on single foot glides.

Downloaded Golden Fool and put a few others on hold, but haven’t had the energy for Robin Hobb, or much time.

I had a great first week, though I’d appreciate my brain calming down so I can sleep this coming week. 😉  I was so tired by the end of the week that I fell asleep as soon as I sat down on the couch Friday evening. As a result, I didn’t end up doing half the things I planned this weekend. Ah well, it was still a great first week, and all my coworkers are super friendly and helpful.

I got my own desk: My Desk at work

I had a full day of orientation with benefits explanations, policies, and department presentations. I observed 8 instructional sessions. One of which was for 3d printing software: Tinkercad. (Photo of my created object coming next week.) I toured the building a few times, and wandered around campus during a couple lunches. I got my logins, listservs, and swipe access set up. I read a lot of documentation, and I even helped out at the Reference Desk.

Favorite point of the week: one of my coworkers came over and asked me if I could write a program/script to dedup the student list she had been sent. And I was able to write it in about ten minutes. Hurray for random Python class I took for free from UofM a few summers ago.

Other highlights: Pitabilities is the best food truck, though it’s only there on Fridays. Sometimes they bribe faculty to come to presentations with chocolate. I am already signed up for a handful of conferences and webinars. Some I wanted to go to before I started working here, and a few were suggested by coworkers.  There’s an adorable cleaning set in the breakroom, because we are responsible for its cleanliness:

Clean your dishes

In reading news, I did finish American Gods. I have not, however, decided what’s next, or how I’m even going to find the time. Though I think maybe books instead of Netflix might be a good option, so I don’t just couch potato when I’m not at work.

Happy Easter! April 1, 2018

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. My exciting weekend included lots of clothes shopping, skating, and a flat tire due to pothole. Friends came and rescued me from the flat tire, so I didn’t have to wait on a tow truck, then invited me for Easter Dinner with their extended family. I got about a 30% discount from my road hazard warranty (it’s been three years). And I even bought some pants across the parking lot while I was waiting.

I am very much looking forward to my first day at CSCC tomorrow. Orientation and all that, including lunch with HR, fellow new hires, and our supervisors. I had a great time working at Whitehall and MLK branches of CML, but on to new adventures.

I’m still listening to American Gods, though I think I have to borrow it from Hoopla again so I can finish. Not sure where I’m going to fit in listening/reading time with the new job, so book updates may slow down for awhile.
