Another colleague moving on. Work environment stress ratcheting up. Meeting to clarify spreading of duties just made it more muddy than before. I keep doing what I’m doing. Two new hires starting soon, then another round of sorting out job descriptions and interviews.

I’ve started a new thing in writing. I have a prompt that I’m going to respond to every day for at least four weeks. No word count requirements, just write what I feel that day. The prompt is:

Tell me how you crumble when
you hit the wall, the place you
cannot go beyond by the strength
of your own will. What carries you
to the other side of that wall,
to the fragile beauty
of your own humanness?
Oriah Mountain Dreamer, The Dance

After I finished Kushiel’s Chosen, I’m back on Benedict Jacka. Got through Chosen and now on Hidden. I also am working on Volume 6 of Locke & Key.

Getting Going January 16, 2020

It’s always hardest to start.

The semester has begun. Students are pouring in and printing reems of paper, sometimes attempting entire textbooks. Professors are setting up instruction sessions, or discovering textbooks have disappeared from a database. I am throwing myself head first into accessibility of the documents on our website.

I also threw myself back into cardio tonight. I have goals this year, and I want to achieve them! It wasn’t as hard as the first time, it’s just pressing play that was the challenge. No weight loss this week, but I’m back to tracking my food, as well.

I’m deciding which creative project is next. It is really tempting to just keep painting, but I have new ideas for my writing projects, too. And a busy weekend ahead. I may just stick with jotting down ideas.

Usually, it would be DeCon weekend, but not this year. We’re doing fieldtrips instead. Heading to COSI for their After Dark series (adults only). The theme right now is Dangerous Science. There were tarantula photos on their Facebook. I’m a little nervous about that now. Plus Harry Potter and Pokemon events to boot.

Nearly done with Kushiel’s Chosen. The next issue of A Darkened Wish came out yesterday, so I have a comic store trip to make, as well. I finished volume four of Locke & Key, so I’ve started five.

Hope everyone has a nice holiday weekend, I’m planning to head over to Denison on Monday, since we’re off and they aren’t. 🙂

Nearly seventy degrees yesterday, down below forty today. Yay Ohio in January.

We had our last quiet week before students return. Another staff change announcement sent a bit of a panic into it, but we’re working through it. I’m working on counting and organizing photos in our archives boxes. First day of class on Monday. Spring semester, here we go.

Nearly done with my first set of miniature painting. I’ll put up a group photo when I get them all done. I’ve got a very detailed mini for the grand finale, of course.

Starting the new year off with more cooking and more activity. First goal is three physical activities a week, and it’s gone pretty well so far. I’m cooking chicken, rice, and veggies for this week’s lunches as I type.

Still working on finishing up reading Locke and Key before it comes out on Netflix. I just received my copy of Vox Machina, volume one, too. Kushiel’s Chosen is still on my Audible, as well.

I hope everyone is having a great start in 2020!

I celebrated the turn of the year with boardgames, smoked meat, a cozy fireplace, and friends. It was a nice relaxing couple of days after five days of high intensity DnD with another group of friends. Gaming in the new year was a great way to spend my winter break from work.

Back at it now, with the students not returning for another week yet. Work is always quiet over break, but it gives us time to clean up and rework our resources. Lesson learned from my archives project so far: order twice as many photo and slide sleeves as you Think you need.

I received and purchased lots of creative supplies for Christmas, so I have a lot of creating ahead of me. Other goals I’ve set for myself include supporting other creators, letting nonsense pass me by instead of arguing where it doesn’t matter, to save my energy for where it does, and finding fun physical activities to keep me moving more.

We’re heading into convention season, thank you, Mom, for the assist. I got my car fixed over the holidays from a run-in with a mailbox. My health seems to be on an upswing, and therapy is going well.

I am still working my way through Kushiel’s Chosen, and I’m not sure what will be next. Cryptonomicon came in from the library, but I might just pick something lighter.
