I don’t even know if I want to start on politics today. Let’s just skip that and say I’m watching Hamilton tonight with friends online. It will be Awesome.

The work week was full of meetings for me. Team meeting, webinars, and an OER meeting. With the Director leaving in two months, we had to meet with the AVP who will be taking over leading the OER project. He seems like a good guy, willing to listen and learn. Fingers crossed.

Still struggling with my diet, but sticking to my Wii Fit exercises. I’m enjoying the biweekly vegetable delivery, waiting on today’s just now:

1 Cantaloupe (1.0 each)
1 Cucumber (1.0 each)
1 Lemons (1.0 bag)
1 Lettuce (red or green) (1.0 head)
1 Peas (snap) (1.0 lbs)
1 Tomatoes (1.5 lbs)
2 Zucchini (1.0 item)

Now that I read the list again, I think the snap peas may not be what I intended to order, but I’ll figure it out. I am excited for the cantaloupe and all the salad stuff.

In creativity news, I started an RPG Writer Workshop this month. It started on the 1st, and has the graduation goal of publishing a one-shot (short) adventure on the 31st. Very excited and curious to learn. I will definitely post a link when it’s done.

In social news, I’m taking my day off and this holiday weekend to have two socially distant, masked, outdoor visits with friends. Since this all began, I have only seen a couple friends from inside our respective cars. I am, by no means, ready to go to indoor visits or DnD around a table, but I Need to see people in the flesh, and maybe get puppy cuddles, since I can’t have people hugs, yet. Franklin County was a red, going on Purple level alert yesterday. Wear a Mask!

It’s a big birthday month in my family, so, Happy Birthday to everyone in the next week! I love you! Some day I will see you again.

Oh! And I got pre-approval for a mortgage loan! So, I’m on the hunt for a condo on the East side of Columbus. I’m going to have a Home where I’m allowed to do what I want inside! (So long as people outside can only see white curtains/blinds.)

Sunny Rainy Days June 25, 2020

The weather still thinks it is Spring. Going from bright sun to heavy rains over and over in a single day, all week long. I don’t mind, sitting inside, but I feel bad for the folks outside. Though, for those not trying to work the ground, it might be nice relief from the heat.

I’m staying inside even more now, with numbers climbing again. Ohio’s deaths per day have dropped, but our cases are climbing, so deaths will follow in a couple weeks. Not as bad as some states, but it is going up.

Meanwhile, after some relative peace during protests last week, the police were at it again this weekend. Attacking protesters, targeting leaders, and even a disabled teenager. Ginther was on yesterday claiming reform, and a review council “by the end of the year.” Yes, some things take time, but certain things need to change right now.

Work is a bit slower in the summer, while we work on build up for the fall. Given everything, and our plethera of classes already online, we’re not expecting a drop in enrollment. Keeping with the same, all online except the hands-on required classes. Still working on a computer lab/library plan in the higher ranks.

I started using the Wii Mom gave me a few years back to do exercise with Wii Fit. So far so good. It’s fun, and you add new exercises slowly, and I get to play balance games to cool down. I also get to compete with Mom’s old scores. I’ve got a ways to go on some of the exercises. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Also enjoying the CSA deliveries. My neighbor gets something like it, too, and gave me some of hers lady week. I share pictures with her of what I made with what she gave me, which she enjoys. Hope you do too.

May is ending, business is beginning again. The threat hasn’t passed, but people are tired and restless. And angry. But they can’t fight a virus, so they are fighting each other. It’s exhausting. On top of an already exhausting world.

I’m having a rough week, but I’ll get through it. My usual camping trip this past weekend went online through Zoom, Discord, and Twitch. It was an interesting experience. Smoother than other virtual events I’ve attended. My loved ones are finally getting postponed medical procedures. One completed successfully this week, a more serious one next week. And I’ve now been home alone except for food and one afternoon in-car game for eleven weeks.

I still have two meals a week with friends over video chat. The D&D game is steaming right along on Hangouts. I’m a week behind in blogging it, but I’ll try to catch up tonight. And I start getting farm fresh deliveries next week from our local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). And I have a pretty new gaming mouse with color changing lights. And did some coloring to relax this weekend.

Going mouse with LEDs

New color pencils

Please be careful out there.

Opening Up May 17, 2020

The state is opening up, under social, political, and economic pressure. Fortunately, the college is not following. By end of week, restaurants will be open within social distance guidelines, and by the end of the month: non-contact sports, campgrounds, day camps, and even pools.

I think I’m going back to ordering my groceries again. I have CSA deliveries starting at the same end of this month as well. Fresh produce from local farms. That should help.

CSCC is on semester break right now, so we’re scrambling to get everything ready for summer. More videos for instruction, PPTs, research guides, and switching to a new reporting system. I have a three day virtual conference next week on Best Practices for digital data, storage, and collections. Looking forward to it very much.

Being stuck in this apartment has intensified my condo desires, but it’s still too early for looking into that too deeply. I did find an area I think I can afford, though. I also got a new graphics card for my computer, so I can use all three screens at once. I usually have at least six programs running at once for work.

Hope everyone is doing well. Be safe, be healthy.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Family and Friends!

Thanksgiving Dinner

Ralphie tried to save me from myself by attacking the loaf of wheat bread for the stuffing, but I caught it before it was destroyed. I may have roasted the hen upside-down… maybe. All in all, though, it turned out really well.ย Just ate about half of this (all the hen, not quite half the cranberry sauce) for first dinner. Finishing it in a few hours for second dinner. ย ๐Ÿ˜‰

Had a really nice weekend with friends this past weekend. Another one ahead. December, funnily enough, will be much quieter than November was. Hopefully, it’ll help me keep up the energy I need to get a job nailed down. A lot of applications to send out there. Still optimistic.

Taking a break from Dresden Files until I can get the Marsters narrated Ghost Stories. (I tried, I just couldn’t do it with Glover.) So, I picked up Neil Patrick Harris’s Choose Your Own Autobiography audiobook from the library. They had to change it up a bit for the audiobook, but it’s just as entertaining as I expected. ย Going to take a look for Carey Elwes’ As You Wish, too at some point. It wasn’t at Bexley, when I was, at least.

Enjoying the ridiculous Detroit Lions game today. Wow…

Hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend.

Completed both my internships this week. Now, to land a job. ๐Ÿ™‚

Halloween weekend went really well. All the things went smoothly and were lots of fun. And I didn’t eat ridiculous amounts of candy. Nor did I buy ridiculous amounts of candy. Good job, me.

This week’s CSA cooking pic, butterkin squash:

November now, conventions and holidays galore. This weekend: Stuff with friends, and maybe a BAD OGRE drop by. Pondering the D&D game and the VtM game, but it requires me to get up and over the Granville by noon on Saturday. I might just sleep. But as I’m not planning on going out on Friday, it IS possible.

Next week, my plans are rest, paperwork, writing (semi-seriously pondering NaNoWriMo), and job applications. Then puppy-sitting the Ralphie. ๐Ÿ™‚

Late posting because Halloween. One party down, two to go. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Internships are going well, just one week left. Unfortunately, this means I have to get up and speak in front of people on Tuesday, but they’re feeding me first, at least. Have really enjoyed both of my internships and learned a ton of practical skills.

I need to find more jobs to apply for, I’m still waiting to hear on a couple. Anybody need a tech savvy librarian? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Excited about this new chapter in my life.

No food pictures this week, been so busy. I did a lot of chopping and freezing, but not so much on the eating any of it yet. Anyone have good recipes for a summer squash/pumpkin hybrid?

Life is good!

Lots of Usability Testing and microfilm scanning at my internships this week. That’s most of what I’ll be doing next week, too. Weee! Almost done! Thinking good thoughts for the future.

My Otterbein supervisor gave me a rather large squash on Tuesday. Then I got my CSA delivery, with a Really Huge bok choy bunch. I have never seen it whole before, but I in no way imagined it would be bigger than my torso… I have a lot of chopping to do tomorrow. I looked up a good way to freeze it, so it doesn’t get mushy and gross. Also got a butternut pumpkin and an acorn squash. I may have to look into chunking and freezing squash, too. Got a bunch of greens, too – spinach, kale, and green beans – gotta use those all up this weekend, unless I’m going to freeze the beans, but I think I’ll just garlic them up and eat them.

Tomorrow is Ohio IR Day. Where I will go listen to people talk about what they are doing with Institutional Repositories in Ohio. Should be fun and educational. Hopefully we’ll get some good advice for promoting the Digital Commons @ Otterbein. Our survey is showing that a ย lot of folks are completely unaware ofย it.

A couple Halloween parties this weekend. Gotta see how many spoons I have to go out and party. Been a bit short on sleep this week.

Had a great weekend last week. Went up to Cleveland, with some CSA in tow. Which resulted in this deliciousness:

Corned Beef

And, since I did not end up going camping, we went for a hike instead. It was a very lovely day in the trees. We even did some scrambling up a slate-covered hill, to relax away from all the wandering families and pets.

Top Of the Hill

We took the slightly safer way down:

Down the Hill

Things are moving along with my internships. I only have three weeks left. So, I’ve started applying for jobs locally, and have had one interview so far.

I also baked a squash during yesterday’s heartbreaking football game.

Butternut Squash

And then enjoyed the OSU game with friends. That was a nice way to cheer up. And then there was fire and S’Mores. Today, there is beef-less stew bubbling in the crockpot.

Six weeks down, four to go. So very excited to start the next chapter of my life. Now I just have to get past the application/interview process. I can do this. ๐Ÿ™‚ (Well, okay, I need that diploma to arrive, too…)

Really enjoying listening to the Dresden Files on audio. I’m on White Night, and loving every one. I was told I’d get tired of it after awhile, and was given World War Z, too, just in case. But so far, when I finish each one, I just want to start the next.

Got another squash, some more potatoes, some carrots, and onions, some apples and even a tiny jar of real maple syrup this week. I see a stew in my future. ๐Ÿ™‚ In the meantime, this was my first ever Roasted Acorn Squash:
