Thank You to all of our Veterans, for serving, sacrificing, and protecting our freedom.

Happy Birthday (yesterday) to my Brother!

On the job search front, I now have a Mentor from SAA (Society of American Archivists), and she’s great. I have filled out a questionnaire for another CML job. In a couple more weeks, I hope to hear on another application. Just keep swimming.

Work is quieter now, with the school season, but there are still the random days off, and the holidays. And, of course, the weekends. With the colder weather, there are more people coming inside to spend their time. I also got to further plans for the MLK archival boxes in a meeting with one of the wonderful community members who helped put the materials together.

Over at Sprawl, I’m still chugging right along. Boss is out of town for a another week and a half. I’ll be tackling the miscellaneous this week.

Looking forward to a busy weekend coming up, including getting to see my family next Sunday.

I finished Ship of Fools and have begun Mad Ship. The series really got me hooked in the second half of Ship of Fools.

A Quiet Week July 28, 2017

It’s been a very quiet week compared to my super busy weekend. I got to see all the people I planned to, running up to north western Ohio, and then to Michgan, and back down again for even more birthday celebrations. And tonight, homemade spaghetti sauce to finish off the week.

I had a great time visiting with my brother, mom, dad, nieces and nephew. We played a couple new (to me) boardgames: Black Sail and Quartz, which were competitive enough, but not overly so. My brother and his kids gave me another board game that I have not yet opened: Champions of Midgard.

I had lovely food with everyone, including trying out a new Sushi place near where I live (I had a Korean dish instead), and a beef brisket, freshly smoked, for my birthday dinner.

The week I have spent relaxing, cleaning up, and working. A nice quiet week to finish out July.

I’ve also been lazy about audiobooks. I listened to The Martian, and Catching Fire. I really need to go through and find next books in all the series I’ve been listening to. I’ll have to do that this weekend. Also this weekend is finishing up my newest D&D character for a brand new campaign on Tuesday: Guardians of the Multiverse. It’s going to be great!

Today is Erika’s Birthday, Saturday Shari’s, Monday mine, and next weekend Marianne’s! I’m going to visit my family this weekend to celebrate my Dad’s from earlier this month, and my niece’s in August (as well as mine). And a birthday lunch with Erika on Sunday in the plan, since I’ll be so far north anyway. Then Monday for birthday lunch with Marianne who’s in from Scotland for the a while this summer, and in town for the weekend, and birthday dinner in the evening.

It’s been a rough week, been still vaguely ill all week, hopefully done now. We shall see. Didn’t work as much as I should have, but worked as much as I could.

I’ve been lazy about finding a new book to listen to, so I’ve re-listened to Storm Front and Hunger Games.

Week of Work July 21, 2016

I’m nearly done with my Week of Work. 7 days in a row at CML – because I had my first Sunday shift and a Wednesday Training all in the same week. Weee! The training was more Welcome to CML stuff, which was pretty interesting, actually. History and statistics of CML, how we got to be one of the only urban Carnegie libraries, How we are one of the Best libraries in the US, how many people we serve, why and how we serve them. It was a good day. Today, I also finished cataloging the Robert and Juanita Coulson collection for Sprawl. Next week, I start Glen Cook’s collection. Super excited for that – there are a lot more modern books with proper ISBNs in that set (and also a good number of old things, too).

Working on a new plan to take care of myself – less sugary treats, less eating out, more exercise. Bribing myself with tiny amounts of money every day I manage these goals – to be spent on a Zag day. I’ve got lots of fruits and veggies in the fridge. Been having lots of salads and fresh meals. Summer is good for that, when I don’t want hot food so much anyway. Pasta Salad has been happening, too, with plenty of veggies.

On the book front, I finished Insurgent, and Mockingjay. Needing a break from dystopian futures, I switched over and listened to the first Kathy Reichs novel, Deja Dead. Totally not what I expected, after watching so much Bones. I also watched Maze Runner over the weekend, which was interesting, but very … I’m not sure – short? simple? It is a teen book, but I just felt like there should be more to it. I’ve got my July Audible credit now, so I’ve should decide what’s next.

Birthday weekend coming up. Cedar Point, tasty food, and hopefully Star Trek Beyond to celebrate. 🙂

Surprise Party! July 14, 2016

So, I went to a surprise birthday party this weekend, and the birthday girl wasn’t the only one surprised. ::laughs:: Was visiting another friend, who took me along. I had a really good time, talking about traveling, gaming, and life in general. Ant Man was a fun, silly movie, as expected. And tasty food was had all weekend.

Strawberry Pancakes

Still struggling to find a good work/life balance – or really, work balance – I’m still tired all the time. Though, that might just be the heat. Whitehall library is going well, and it’s really good that Sprawl is so flexible, so it’s working out alright. Just still working out the kinks. This weekend is my first Sunday shift, and next week I have a training day on Wednesday, so I’ve got a long run of shifts in a row. But, yay for extra hours. 🙂

Still looking for a new place to live. Given money constraints, it is tricky, which is why I ended up here in the first place. Things have calmed down a bit around here, so that’s good at least. <knock on wood>

Still waiting on a couple on-hold titles, but I’ve made my way through Catching Fire, and I’ve started into Insurgent in the audiobook realm. I also read the first Y The Last Man graphic novel while I was up north this weekend.

I turn 35 tomorrow. Thought I’d be a little further along by now, but I’m doing well, and am starting a new career, so I’d say I’m in a good place. I have friends and family who love me, who care for me. And while my health annoys me on occasion, I’m doing fairly well there, too. All things considered.

Tomorrow, I, and three friends, are going to Cedar Point to celebrate two of our birthdays. I am so very much looking forward to riding all the coasters again. 🙂 Hopefully, I’ll remember sun screen often enough.

In other news, I’m on the final stretch of my two final projects. My site is half up, and my digital library is mostly complete. I just have some tweaking to do, mostly visual. I still need to design a header banner for my site – never was very good with graphics. But all in all, my classes are wrapping up fairly well. I’m a bit behind on my python class this week, but I should be able to catch up Saturday afternoon. It’s kind of a “the points are made up and the grades don’t matter” class, so I’m not too worried about it. But still, I’ll get it done in time.

Then, once all is said and done, I’ll be heading north for a week. Going to visit Michigan a bit at the beginning of August. 🙂

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Happy Independence Day, last weekend!

Missing the Dusty Kitty, though. 😦

Got my website project started, need to find better color scheme and make a header banner. Have to write my digital library proposal this week, too. I think travel photos. We have to have 50 objects, and I’ve got tons of pictures from Ireland, Australia, and England, so… That should go alright.

Fleet Tiki picnic/party this weekend. 🙂  And sleep… hopefully sleep. 😉

Hope everyone had a good day, whether celebrating, or not. At the very least, I hope everyone had a Safe day. The sudden blizzard was pretty terrible for people driving. It also made work pretty quiet.

Belated Happy Birthday to Uncle John, his birthday was nearly a week ago, as I’m very late in posting this week.

School is good. This was the second week of a session, so everything was already posted. The new workshop went really well for the first week. Looks like it’s going be fun. Next class starts Monday, too. Busy, busy, busy.

Had a great time going out to the movies with friends last night.

I knew it was a busy month, but where did January go?  Right then, moving forward. My PHP/MySQL workshop starts on Monday. Bought the textbook today (Sams), might borrow the various supplemental books from the library. Can’t afford four computer books, sorry Professor. Looking forward to the class, though. Session 2 of first class has begun, evaluating systems, wee fun.

Looking forward to another weekend with friends. Happy Birthday to my nephew, on Friday! Ice and snow filled this past week, but things are looking slightly better the next few days. I like winter, I just wish I didn’t have to drive in it.

Not much else to say…work, school, friends. It’s a pretty good life. 🙂

Had a great birthday dinner with lots of friends. Thanks to all for coming out to celebrate with me. 🙂  My desktop is now up and running again, with a new surge protector, too. I even got a little thumb drive… that has more than twice the memory of the computer I took to college. It’s not perfect, but I can run dungeons properly now. Other updates to come, but I think the next one is a hard drive and new Windows install, which takes a bit more money and effort. A bit more birthday shopping to go – some books, maybe a movie or two and some clothes probably (thanks for the gifts family and friends). Need to check out textbooks for the fall while I’m on Amazon, too.

Busy school week coming up. I have the usual homework, plus a proposal to write and a reflection. The proposal requires I pick a topic for a literary review and find ten sources. The reflection requires I read all the articles and posts and replies on a single module. So, that’ll all be fun, and possibly interrelated.

Fun tonight and then a quiet weekend of homework and computer time. And a Happy Birthday to Marianne come Tuesday. 🙂
