My brother’s wedding was really very nice and included quite a bit about not just bride and groom, but the families becoming one. They had some very nice music and the kids all looked adorable. A very large number of his parishioners came out to support them, as well. More than they ever planned on. Very nice, indeed. And was great to see my parents, aunt, uncle, and cousin. πŸ™‚

Cedar Point was a great day as well. Tried out the Valraven and the Rougarou, both were were fun, but the former very short. Did not make it on Steel Vengeance as the line was very long, and we were making a short day of it. Also rode Millennium Force and the Maverick. The new harness on the Mav is very nicely padded. Did the Gemini, the SkyHawk, the Power Tower (down), and the super high swings and Cedar Downs. Oh, and in the middle of all that, we did take a ride on Snake River Falls, which they have deepened the water since I last rode it. Tiffy took a picture after and captioned it “You won’t get that wet, she said” in which I look like drowned rat. πŸ˜‰ But hey, we got to watch a nice lady make a glass turtle after, while we tried to dry off in the heat of her forge.

At work, I finished scanning and uploading all the items for our mini archives. I am still waiting on word back from a few places about space for a bigger archive. It’s about to be finals time, and then semester break and when we get back in September, I’ll be officially starting the Use and Usability study.

In reading, I finished Skin Game and Side Jobs, and am still working on Penric’s Demon.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, as well, my friends. πŸ™‚

I had a very nice day at Cedar Point. It was super hot and humid, though, so we didn’t do a lot of line-standing. We rode three carosels (Cedar Downs twice); four coasters: Gemini, Millenium Force, Iron Dragon, and Magnum; one swing-ride, and the Sky Ride. Had a nice company picnic lunch, and a fun Johnny Rocket dinner, with our awesome waiter Soon, and some tasty treats throughout the day, and Lots of Water and Iced Tea. We visited every air-conditioned shop in the place, and went to the arcade twice, for some pinball, and a few other random games.

Sunday was a much quieter day. Visiting with friends and dinner out. MMmmm fresh-baked Naan. Monday night I had a nice home-cooked birthday dinner and shared in the weekend family birthday cake. Thank you Mom and Dad for the birthday dinner money, Gale and Larry for the Hobbit Trilogy, and Kit for Titan AE and Maestro. πŸ™‚ And thank you to all my friends who shared happy greetings, time, and food with me. It was a very nice birthday weekend.

This week, I’ve listened to Have Spacesuit, Will Travel and Starship Troopers by Heinlein. And I’ve just downloaded two more Kathy Reichs to give her another shot. I still need to see Star Trek Beyond – maybe this weekend. I’ve not got much planned otherwise. Next week, I get to sit a Ralphie while people celebrate Star Trek’s 50th Birthday. Yay puppy! And Air Conditioning.

I’m looking at apartments, thinking about moving end of September. I’m tired of this place. And it’s only a little bit more there. We shall see.

One down, one to go. Only one week left at B&N. Then awesome internships. Very excited.

Busy weekend with friends ahead. I almost forgot to post getting ready for it.

Went to Cedar Point again last weekend, friends had a company picnic and extra tickets. Was good fun, much more relaxed day without Fast Passes. Β So very hot and humid though. Still a great day with friends.

I turn 35 tomorrow. Thought I’d be a little further along by now, but I’m doing well, and am starting a new career, so I’d say I’m in a good place. I have friends and family who love me, who care for me. And while my health annoys me on occasion, I’m doing fairly well there, too. All things considered.

Tomorrow, I, and three friends, are going to Cedar Point to celebrate two of our birthdays. I am so very much looking forward to riding all the coasters again. πŸ™‚ Hopefully, I’ll remember sun screen often enough.

In other news, I’m on the final stretch of my two final projects. My site is half up, and my digital library is mostly complete. I just have some tweaking to do, mostly visual. I still need to design a header banner for my site – never was very good with graphics. But all in all, my classes are wrapping up fairly well. I’m a bit behind on my python class this week, but I should be able to catch up Saturday afternoon. It’s kind of a “the points are made up and the grades don’t matter” class, so I’m not too worried about it. But still, I’ll get it done in time.

Then, once all is said and done, I’ll be heading north for a week. Going to visit Michigan a bit at the beginning of August. πŸ™‚

Pop Culture and Vinyl July 16, 2015

Most of my time at work this week was full of our Vinyl rollout. We now have three bays of vinyl in our music department, instead of just one little table. I hope it keeps selling… Β The rest of the store is consumed by the Pop Culture events this month. Tomorrow night is Minions, Saturday is Star Wars, and Sunday is Manga Mania, which kicks off a week-long Buy Two, Get One Free sale. Head to your local B&N folks, it’s going to be a fun weekend. πŸ™‚

For me? The weekend will be full of final project homework. My birthday is next weekend, and I’d like to be doing as little homework as possible after going to Cedar Point with friends next Friday. So, I have to add content to all my new webpages, and submit a progress report. Then I have to get my digital library of travel photos pulled together, and filled with metadata. I believe I have a progress report to do on that, as well. Oh, yeah, and I need to email the guy at CML about setting up a meeting to discuss my second internship this fall.

At least we’ve had some nice weather this week. Some pretty huge storms, too, but also some sun to dry things off. Like that tree in the road just down from me. πŸ˜‰ Summer is halfway over already, how did that happen??

Moving Day is Coming Soon July 18, 2013

I am moving apartments on Saturday morning. I’ve got a friend with a truck and brand new trailer, and a couple other friends with big vehicles coming to help. I keep checking the weather forecast, but it keeps changing. One day it says 90, the next 80, and back again. My bookshelves are all cleared and packed. Except for my computer, my desk and files are all packed. My pewter, antiques and china are all packed. Tonight’s agenda is the kitchen and the rest of the closets. (I figure the dresser drawers are nicely packed, just take them out, move the big pieces and put them back in.) I should really take apart the modular bookcase, but it’s such a pain to disassemble and reassemble them. (No, disassemble!)

I still don’t have my AT&T modem(I mean, Gateway), but it currently seems like it should arrive today (UPS tends to show up around 6pm here). The tech I talked to earlier this week said there’s no wiring needed, I should be able to set up the internet on Saturday. I’ve still got internet here until next Thursday (providing They don’t disconnect me early, Again.) And all the other utilities are all set to go on and off properly. Email with address and details will be going out some time next week. I still have to decide what I’m doing about package delivery at the new place as it requires a key to get in the building, and the mailboxes are tiny. I’m not starting mail forwarding until the end of next week, as I’ll be here cleaning after work most days next week.

Birthdays next week. Happy Birthday to all my fellow end-of-July birthdays! I’ve got Cedar Point on Monday, and a lot of nebulous, not really formed plans the rest of the week. Working 7am-3pm Tuesday through Friday puts a damper on going out and partying mid-week, but maybe I’ll figure something out for Friday night and/or Saturday. Suggestions welcome! πŸ˜‰

Spent the weekend at Cedar Point. Awesome birthday gift! Saturday night we road the wooden coasters. Blue Streak, Gemini, Mean Streak, Mine Ride and then we double dipped on the Millennium Force to end the night on a high note. Sunday, we were only going to be in the park for six hours, owing to prior commitments, so as a special birthday treat, we got Fast Lane passes. This allowed us to ride all 10 of the coasters we hadn’t yet hit (Dragster twice and Millennium Force again for good measure) and a few auxiliary rides as well: Power Tower up and down, SkyHawk, and WindSeeker. It was also the last day for Disaster Transport, so glad we got to ride it one more time. It was pretty awesome never waiting more than 30 minutes for a ride, and most of the time far less than that. I didn’t even spend too much money on junk food. We all had frozen custard on Saturday night – Wow, Delicious!Β  And then a hotdog and chips for lunch on Sunday. Water was about the only other thing we bought. And thanks to friends with season passes, the tickets were cheap too, and parking was free. Awesome weekend. Thank you!

Birthday gifts and cakes keep trickling in. Thank you everyone for that, too. It’s been a great celebration this year, and lasting longer than most. πŸ™‚ I love it.Β  And soon to celebrate lots of other family birthdays!

So much coming up, trips, birthdays, conventions, our anniversary. I’m very excited, and working enough hours, we may even be able to afford most of it. πŸ˜‰Β  Fingers crossed for gas prices around the third weekend of August.

Brithday Week July 26, 2012

Last Thursday we went to the Batman marathon at a theater in the southwest corner of town. There were only about 20 of us in the arena-style room, and no little ones. They gave us free small popcorn vouchers, too. I stayed awake for the first two movies, and only slept during Bane’s takeover of Gotham in the third. I like Batman, so I enjoyed my evening very much. Though, I think Vinnie is right, a bit too much Bruce Wayne and not enough Batman. But we had junk food and a fun night out.

Had a quiet couple of days and then went to see my brother’s family and new house. They found a really nice place. Kids all get their own rooms, and a basement to play in. The got me a cake, with candles and singing and everything. It was very sweet. We played an Angry Birds card and dice game and a round of Uno with plastic cards. A nice afternoon with family.

Spent time with friends the last couple days, hanging out, having fun. Gaming on my birthday was a lot of fun, cured the Roman Empire and then took power away from the senate. This coming weekend is now the Cedar Point trip, that will be a blast. Still trying to figure out when King’s Island can happen.

It’s been a good week of birthday celebrations. I am well loved.

Work, Eat, Sleep July 19, 2012

Since we got back fromΒ  Boise, it feels like I haven’t done much but work, eat and sleep. Thirty hour weeks take some getting used to after months of twelve-fifteen hour weeks. I have done other things, hung out with friends, but the big events are yet to come.

Three birthdays over the next six days. Happy Birthday! The Ohio State Fair next weekend. Cedar Point the weekend after. Then three more birthdays, which involve two family trips. Possibly a King’s Island trip in there somewhere, too. And rounding out the summer at WorldCon, come ChiCon as it’s in Chicago this year.

Tonight, Rich is taking me to a Batman marathon to watch the Dark Knight trilogy all in a row. His birthday gift to me. The difficulty – me staying awake for all nine hours, in a dark room, and vaguely comfortable seat. There will be Icees and probably chocolate.

Sunday is a trip to see my brother’s new house, and play some Munchkin. He’s a bit further away now and trying to get the hang of being a house-husband. I imagine he’s looking forward to the oldest heading to school in a few weeks.

Trying to eat better, as always. Sticks & Twigs pretzels, however, are nothing like pretzels and not even as substantial as the name would suggest. Shelled pumpkin seeds, on the other hand, are far more pleasant to eat. Spring mix and spinach are tasting a bit bitter, need to get more alkalized, but wheatgrass is just not convenient in my schedule these days.

Cold seems to have finished up, to be followed simply by allergy trouble. Yay, dust! And now my tummy is cranky, with food. Not that I’m not eating, just that it doesn’t seem to like anything I eat. Trying rice today, that’s completely neutral, right? We’ll see.

Getting on towards summer now. Temps in the 80s this week. Maybe warm weather will get me eating healthier. Without so much a desire for hot food. Just have to get past the stress eating habit as well. Mom’s retiring this summer, so I’m also having fantasies of homemade tomato paste this fall. πŸ˜‰Β  There are so many farmers markets down here, plenty of tomatoes… will have to convince my brother to let them use his kitchen though, mine’s no good for that. Would also have to convince them to come down to visit in October, according to Google, that is the local picking month.

So much to plan for this summer, and we haven’t even begun. Need WorldCon roommates. Need Boise flight tickets. Need a Maine trip plan. And that’s just the big stuff. Really want to get to Cedar Point this year. Birthday plans. Anniversary plans. I don’t even know what I’m doing for Memorial Day weekend. <pipedream>Β  Anyone want to send me to England in June? ::laughs:: </pipedream>

We are in a new financial year at work, so hours are picking back up a little. Microsoft invested in our nook business, so that should be interesting. I’m still waiting for Love Sucks by Sage Collins to be available through the nook store. Cuz I’m stubborn like that.Β  Had a great time at the Chocolate Cafe with her, Shayera and their writing friends. Exquisite Corpse made for some very entertaining stories. A few even made sense.
