I had to defrost my car yesterday morning and turn on the heat in the apartment this weekend. Autumn is definitely settling in here in Ohio. Trees are all pretty colors and the stores are full of Halloween candy. Makes my stress-eating of chocolate a bit cheaper for a few weeks at least. 😉 I should really stop it, I know, but… it’s chocolate.

Got a good yearly review at work, and my yearly raise. Rich is still in the hunt, checking out new opportunities daily. We’re interviewing for our seasonal hires. Lots of interviews, not sure how many we’re going to take. Hopefully some in cafe, that’s been a bit of a problem keeping staffed lately. Been getting a decent amount of interest in the HD devices. Folks, if you love your local B&N store, go put your name down for an HD device (no obligation to buy) or two so we can be properly stocked for the holiday season.

The car accident claim should be settled by the end of the week as well. I just have to get the offer papers in the mail and get them back to Nationwide. Then that will be done. Looking forward to one less thing on my plate. And, if we’re lucky, one less medical bill by the end of this month, too. Then I just have to track down the big one that’s left out there in the ether.

Oh, and healthy food of the week: Miso Soup.

This past weekend I went on a trip with friends to Louisville to a little SciFi/Fantasy convention called ConGlomeration. We had a great time. The dealers room had lovely corsets, fun shiny jewelry and loads of games, books and other assorted trinkets. I discovered that Victorian style corsets, with diagonal stays fit my ribs better than the traditional vertical ones. Unfortunately, these all had ruffles. Maybe next time.

As is tradition with this group of friends, we threw a great party on Saturday night for the con-goers. The music was loud, the costumes were great and we didn’t get a single noise complaint. Thanks to a young lady who got promoted for her good work on that front.

Work goes up and down, but mostly boring. Still waiting on an assignment from Mongoose. Health is doing alright, though my diet is fading again. So many dairy and chocolate cravings lately. Can hardly believe it’s almost May.

After an exciting birthday week last week, not much to post about this week. Went to Cedar Point on Monday as a late birthday gift and post-bar celebration. It was a very busy Monday, even the 9am hour was busy, though even more so due to only one ride being open and it breaking at about 930. But we had a blast. It was warm and sunny, but Aquafina bottles were plentiful. As was salad for lunch and dinner. There was a bit of chocolate covered frozen banana and a bit too much cotton candy, but overall, I stayed fairly healthy.

Got to ride all the most of the coasters, with some decent, but not overwhelming waits for most. Maverick, Mean Streak, Mine Ride, Millennium, Magnum, Gemini, Disaster Transport, Corkscrew, Raptor, Wicked Twister, Top Thrill Dragster. Not many of the auxiliary rides this trip. We did Bumper Cars, Airhawk and Max Air. Rachel took the bullet and rode the Witch’s Wheel. Mostly we were running between coasters. We did take a break out to watch Everybody Loves Snoopy in the air conditioned skating rink theatre.

It was a good, exhausting day. With fireworks to keep us entertained in our final line.

Life itself marches on. Bills come in. Money goes out. Plans get made. And everything will work out fine. 🙂

My Health – I missed my doctor’s appointment this week. Thought I’d set a reminder, but I must have put it on my old phone. I didn’t realize until dinner the next evening. I called today and they graciously waived the missed appointment fee. I haven’t taken any meds in… I’m not sure, two months, maybe?  I haven’t done my blood work either. Once we get our current medical bills under control, I’ll get that done and probably talk to her, but that’s on hold for now. My joints are doing really well these days, elbow’s still a little swollen, but it’s not painful or problematic. As far as the diet, I stay fairly well on course, eating lots of salads and veggies and spelt products. I do eat desserts on a fairly regular basis, a cookie here, a bit of chocolate cake there. With MarCon coming up at the end of the month I’ve been pretty good, saving up my cheating this month for that, though I’ll still try to have some salad when it’s available.

MarCon – Multiple Alternative Realities Convention – is in two weeks. It’s a horror theme this year, not my favorite, but it should still be a fun time. The committee is working to pull together the programming, guests and gaming. I’m looking forward to seeing the costumes, art show and dealers room. Not that I have money to spend there, but I do enjoy ogling the pretties.

Cedar Point – In celebration of Bookup returning to non-copy protected, registration-only software, and the headaches that will relieve, Mike and I are taking Monday off to go to Cedar Point.

Bookup – The Express update without copy protection (returning to the registration system he used to use) was released last week, the trial version yesterday and hopefully the Professional version tomorrow. We have two very skilled gentlemen working on our Forum integration and are debating two help desk solutions. One works as is, though I’m not sold on how it works, the other has integration issues I would love to get solved. The membership site itself is up and ready, once we get the forum and help desk finished, we will just have to convince 44K people to create passwords and start using it. I’ve been reading a lot about generating free internet traffic, and am preparing to put some of that to work for Bookup. Everything is coming together.

So naturally it snowed recently. But the weather’s getting warmer and things are looking up. I sent out letters to several offices asking if they would consider reducing our bills. Two upon request through email and one which I’m still waiting on a call back from.  So we’ll see how that goes.

Sent out a bunch my stories this past weekend and the rejections are starting to flow in. But I’m working on a new project as well. Slowly, perhaps, but each step is forward.

Got some extra hours this week at work, and then totally forgot that I should bring food when I work a full shift (my first since September).  Bookup’s progressing, too, though we’re still having integration problems, finding someone to help us out, now. So close.

Elbow’s been a pain lately, but other than that, health and diet are going fairly well. It is the season for Cadbury Eggs, and chocolate is my weakness, but I’m still fairly well on target. Life is good.

Oh, and one day early, Happy Birthday, Mom. I love you. 🙂

Had half a zag day for the Halloween party this past weekend in Cleveland. Lots of No Bake cookies, a few drinks, some bread and then Bacon Waffles and Bacon for breakfast. Mmmm bacon!  I’m feeling better about the whole thing. I’m sticking with it for the most part, but I’m not denying myself quite so much, or guilting myself for slips. I want to be as healthy as I can, but I also want to live my life happily. A little bread with my salad is okay, even if it’s not yeast-free or spelt. Some hot cider is not great for me, but it makes my throat feel so much better. Fruit and fresh juice is far healthier than chocolate or other candy or soda. I like vegetables and my tummy likes almond butter far better than peanuts. Need to work on some soup recipes(haven’t I said this before?) with the cold weather coming on. All in all, I’m feeling better about things.
Food of the Week: Broccoli and Sweet Potato Slices

I’ve stopped taking my drugs. Not intentionally, I’ve just been lazy. I think I last took some on Saturday, maybe Friday. I’ve little aches here and there, but some movement and stretching generally makes them feel better. I really need to make the time to exercise, and I keep saying this, but it’s true. Yoga, Tai Chi, Strength Training, something, probably all of the above. Food’s been going alright, though I’ve had mad cravings for chocolate lately. And, I admit, have indulged a few times. I don’t think I’ve mentioned this yet, but I’ve lost quite a bit of weight, I’m down to 125 last check. That’s 20 pounds in the last three months. Was not my intention, and I’d really rather gain some of that back, in muscle preferably(see the need to exercise). Other than that, things are really going quite well.

Food of the Week: Red Potatoes and Broccoli, dressed with Olive Oil, Rosemary, Basil and Garlic Salt.
