Spent most of the weekend with my parents watching the Olympic Games in their Air Conditioned hotel room. Yay, A/C. It was fun, I remember watching the olympics and other sports with them when I was growing up, it was a good time together. Hope my nieces are having wonderful birthdays, yesterday and today. 🙂

Work is going along. I did a lot of book-finding today at CML. We had our first official IFLA tour yesterday, and the Big One tomorrow. I’m nearly to 200 books cataloged on the new collection over at Sprawl. Lots of Science Fiction Book Club editions, and lots more signed editions. It’s very fun.

I finished Memnoch the Devil, and got through Allegiant. Now, I’m on Hat Full of Sky by Pratchett. I think, thus far, I’ve managed to listen to this series exactly backward. Ah well, it’s kind of interesting that way. Like delving into history.

The rental company has decided to do full-building pest control on Monday, one month before I move. So, I’ve got lots of early packing to do this weekend. Weee, fun! 😉

I’m nearly done with my Week of Work. 7 days in a row at CML – because I had my first Sunday shift and a Wednesday Training all in the same week. Weee! The training was more Welcome to CML stuff, which was pretty interesting, actually. History and statistics of CML, how we got to be one of the only urban Carnegie libraries, How we are one of the Best libraries in the US, how many people we serve, why and how we serve them. It was a good day. Today, I also finished cataloging the Robert and Juanita Coulson collection for Sprawl. Next week, I start Glen Cook’s collection. Super excited for that – there are a lot more modern books with proper ISBNs in that set (and also a good number of old things, too).

Working on a new plan to take care of myself – less sugary treats, less eating out, more exercise. Bribing myself with tiny amounts of money every day I manage these goals – to be spent on a Zag day. I’ve got lots of fruits and veggies in the fridge. Been having lots of salads and fresh meals. Summer is good for that, when I don’t want hot food so much anyway. Pasta Salad has been happening, too, with plenty of veggies.

On the book front, I finished Insurgent, and Mockingjay. Needing a break from dystopian futures, I switched over and listened to the first Kathy Reichs novel, Deja Dead. Totally not what I expected, after watching so much Bones. I also watched Maze Runner over the weekend, which was interesting, but very … I’m not sure – short? simple? It is a teen book, but I just felt like there should be more to it. I’ve got my July Audible credit now, so I’ve should decide what’s next.

Birthday weekend coming up. Cedar Point, tasty food, and hopefully Star Trek Beyond to celebrate. 🙂

I had a great time last weekend with my Barfleet family. Four days and four nights of camping, delicious food, fun games, silly stories, campfires, singing with guitar and banjos, and 90 minutes of solid, straight, echoing laughter. It was glorious, and the rain stayed mostly away, though we starting wishing it wouldn’t as summer came in and sat heavily upon us. Already looking forward to our fall camp out.

I finished the second book of Night Angel, but now I’m waiting my turn for the last. In the meantime, I’ve been listening to a lot of TedTalks, and some more scifi. Last week was some Bradbury and Wells. I’m trying to decide what to spend my current Audible credit for. Maybe another Salvatore, I’m getting further and further behind.

But onto the big news of the week. I started my new job! I had orientation on Monday and learned all the details of benefits and the employee systems. Tuesday and Wednesday I learned all the things about my job. How to check books in, how to shelve and clean up shelves, where all the things belong, how to find and process reservations, and how to use Polaris and email. This week I start working on my own a bit, and learning the minutiae. Saturday we (CML) kick off our Summer Reading Program – and it’s not just for kids, everyone can participate and enter the prize drawings. So, head down to your local branch on Saturday and sign up. 🙂

My last day at Safelite today. All the weird. Computer wasn’t verifying insurance, and several complicated calls in the afternoon. No word from supervisors this week, more storms keeping everyone busy. Ah well. Looking forward to starting at the library next week. On-boarding on Monday, opening and closing with my new manager on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Next weekend is Camping! with 125 of my Barfleet friends. I have more dogtags to type up this weekend. It’s going to be a really fun time. Lots of campfire and castiron cooking. 🙂 And s’mores. Plus silly games.

Finished Way of the Shadows and now I’m onto Shadow’s Edge. Good series.

I had a really good time at MarCon with friends this past weekend. Some tasty beverages, as usual, from the bar – even the premixes were delicious (maybe a little Too delicious…). Some very good food from both the hotel and Max & Erma’s. I visited the Art Show and the Dealers Room. All full of fun and crazy things. I even bought a new book, though I resisted buying any art – I really am bad at decorating with what I have already. I also played some games, both at the parties, and in the official gaming area – my first time ever playing a miniatures game – Star Wars Attack Wing, I believe – and I didn’t do too poorly at it, either. I did manage to be too responsible/helpful, and got promoted on Friday night, but my friends took good care of me/celebrated with me.

And the week just got better and better. On Monday, I was asked to do some further paperwork for an interview I’d had. Then, on Wednesday, I was offered, and accepted a new job from the Whitehall branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library – Just up the road from me, and half a block from where I had my internship this fall. I start on the 23rd. So very excited!! (Submitted resignation letter to current job today.) It’s part time, so I can keep cataloging for Sprawl Library, while I get my feet wet learning the CML’s systems. Also, looking forward to being back on my feet and moving around on the job again.

I’ve finished the set of Heinlein I was working on, so now I’m listening to the first book in Brent Week’s Night Angel trilogy – thieves and assassins, my kind of book. 🙂

On a more political note, a post came across my Facebook yesterday that I think is very important: More Than 100 Methodist Ministers Defy Church Rules, Come Out as LGBT. Having grown up in the UMC, I feel that it is high time we remember that God is Love.

This weekend is DeConpression 13, a relaxicon put on by a handful of my friends, that I will be attending with a whole lot of my friends. Movies, singing, coloring, cooking contest, panels, dancing, and having a bunch of fun. So looking forward to it.

On the job front, I’m getting a lot of silence. But I’m back volunteering at CML, so I’ve got something to do besides watch Netflix all day. Two more rolls of the index digitized this week. Working on my PHP skills, soon to be put to productive use. No really, I’m going to get those genealogy pages working some day, I swear. 😉 Went to a Life Planning (death planning) class last night, and learned all about wills, and various powers of attorney, and advanced directives. So, some things to do to get my affairs in order… which will be more important when I get hired somewhere.

We have snow this week, that’s actually sticking around a few days. So, at least it’s prettier out. Finished Cold Days by Jim Butcher, and am now on Skin Game. Watched some new (to me) movies over the weekend – The Abyss, Pentagon Wars, Falling Down, and Practical Magic (turns out I hadn’t ever seen that). Finished watching Defying Gravity (why do interesting/good space shows always end too soon?) and started watching The Expanse.

Today was my Last Day at Barnes & Noble. It’s been a good run, nearly 13 years with the company. I learned a lot, had tons of fun, and met a lot of great people. Not all of it was smiles and rainbows, but that’s life. I’m glad to have worked there over the years, and now it is time to move on.

I start my internships next week. Monday at Otterbein’s Courtright Memorial Library, and Wednesday with Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Local History & Genealogy department. I am really looking forward to both of those, and the wide variety of new experiences that will come with them.

A quiet weekend ahead. To rest, relax, and get ready for Monday. 🙂

Why Yes, I’m a Bit Crazy… and Super Lucky June 11, 2015

Started my summer classes this week. So far.. so Busy! First week of class is always a little hectic because I have to wait until Monday to get started, instead of my usual one class Sunday, one class Monday routine. And they are abbreviated summer classes, so it’s even more messy. And naturally, things were missing. But it is all sorted out now, and I just have two more things to do to finish up the week.

I added to the hustle by emailing a listserv about internship possibilities last week, and I got a Lot of replies. I also got a reply from a direct request I’d sent out a couple weeks prior. So, I had a lot of replies to write, and decisions to make. Now, the crazy. I decided to accept two of the offers. One for my Culminating Experience, and one for just my experience. I am super Lucky because my parents, who have been awesome at helping me out with Grad School, are helping me out again this fall so that I can afford to do two unpaid internships at once. So, I am very much looking forward to interning at both Otterbein University and Columbus Metropolitan Libraries this fall.

The rest of my schedule has settled down for the summer. I’ve got a picnic with friends this weekend, but no more big special events planned, except a birthday trip to Cedar Point. So, mostly just a summer of schoolwork, webdesign, and Python programming. Sounds good to me. 🙂

Also, WordPress informs me that six years ago today was when I started this blog. Happy Birthday Blog. 🙂
