It’s Beginning to Look… December 15, 2016

… a lot like Christmas. The librarian brought in garland to decorate the office today. The snow is sticking quite firmly to the ground. Parties have begun for the holidays. I’m halfway through present shopping/making and am still trying to sort out the family visit. Looking forward to seeing my nieces and nephew, and brother and sis-in-law.

My jobs are hot and cold. The library’s heat is running quite well, though I hear the A/C turned on yesterday when it got warm enough. Sprawl, however, is a bit on the chilly side. I have a space heater for my work area, and the office folk turned on the big blower in the back when they realized I was there yesterday (they didn’t have anybody on their side of the warehouse). I finished the collection I was working on, and Tomorrow I start the new collection that just arrived.

Instead of TV/Netflix at home, I’ve been binging on Dresden Files audio books again. At Sprawl, I’ve gotten through Harm None, and now I’m onto Captain’s Fury. Though, today I did watch the new Ghostbusters and the newest James Bond – Spectre. Hoping to see Rogue One this weekend.

Hope everyone has a great, and safe, holiday season.

Was freezing all day at work today. Ugh!  But the day went fairly well. Being stuck back in music has the advantage of less crowding, at least. Four applications sent out on Monday, two rejections so far. :/

Enjoying my break, and not really doing much work that I planned on yet. Though I did update Drupal for once. Went to some really fun bookstores this past weekend. Acorn is my favorite. Even if they didn’t have the old books I was looking for.

Christmas parties this weekend with friends. So that’ll be fun. Looking forward to seeing everyone and relaxing. They say it will snow. We shall see.

And I’m posting late again. I do not have a good excuse this week. I was just Tired all week. Had fun with friends last night, even if it was freezing cold. Went to a family owned Italian restaurant for lunch today. It was nice. I realized I haven’t really gone to family owned businesses in a very long time. So many chains around here.

School is going alright, these couple weeks are pretty quiet in the lead up to the final projects. I really do appreciate that she has had us doing bits of the projects all through the semester. Still waiting on final grade on the group project in the other class.

Store is almost full up on holiday hires, but we’ve got a few more spots open if anyone is looking. I think we even have a full managerial staff these days.

So, I’ve caught a summer cold. I blame Allie and Shane. 😉 It’s kinda miserable, but at least I have a puppy to cuddle.

New classes started this week. Digital Libraries and Intro to Digital Preservation. Should be a fun semester, if very full of homework. One involves a group project, the other is individual work with group discussions(as per usual). One is light on reading, the other seems pretty heavy. So, should be an interesting semester.

More people leaving the store, heading into Holiday hiring soon. We’ve got a bunch of full time positions open. Wee, fun!  Still waiting to hear back on some recent applications. Fingers crossed.

We had a few days of unseasonably warm, but now we’re back to the 20s and below. There were random flakes of snow in the air today, but nothing stuck. Wee fun.

Lots of reference homework this week. Searching reference books, databases and catalogs for both my classes. One requires a bit of a paper to be written as well. Gotta get all the little bits and pieces out of the way first, though. Some forum response posts to do tonight.

I got a notice at work that as of Monday I’ll have automatic AD&D and Life insurance through them again, for being “scheduled to work 20 or more hours with one year of service.” Um… try 11 years of service, but okay. I tried logging in to HRAccess to see if that meant I had paid time off, too, but it said something about tomorrow being an expiration date for current time off, so I’ll check again on Monday and see what’s up.

One of my assignments this week showed me a library in town that I had missed in my job search, so I immediately applied for all three open positions there. Fingers tightly crossed for interviews, as always.

Homework and the usual hanging out with friends this weekend. Not sure if I’m going to movie night or not Saturday. I may just fall asleep. Cold weather does not motivate me to leave my couch. We shall see.

Cold seems to have finished up, to be followed simply by allergy trouble. Yay, dust! And now my tummy is cranky, with food. Not that I’m not eating, just that it doesn’t seem to like anything I eat. Trying rice today, that’s completely neutral, right? We’ll see.

Getting on towards summer now. Temps in the 80s this week. Maybe warm weather will get me eating healthier. Without so much a desire for hot food. Just have to get past the stress eating habit as well. Mom’s retiring this summer, so I’m also having fantasies of homemade tomato paste this fall. 😉  There are so many farmers markets down here, plenty of tomatoes… will have to convince my brother to let them use his kitchen though, mine’s no good for that. Would also have to convince them to come down to visit in October, according to Google, that is the local picking month.

So much to plan for this summer, and we haven’t even begun. Need WorldCon roommates. Need Boise flight tickets. Need a Maine trip plan. And that’s just the big stuff. Really want to get to Cedar Point this year. Birthday plans. Anniversary plans. I don’t even know what I’m doing for Memorial Day weekend. <pipedream>  Anyone want to send me to England in June? ::laughs:: </pipedream>

We are in a new financial year at work, so hours are picking back up a little. Microsoft invested in our nook business, so that should be interesting. I’m still waiting for Love Sucks by Sage Collins to be available through the nook store. Cuz I’m stubborn like that.  Had a great time at the Chocolate Cafe with her, Shayera and their writing friends. Exquisite Corpse made for some very entertaining stories. A few even made sense.

I’ve pretty much been ill with a cold and cough since my last post. It’s getting better, but it’s still not gone. So there has been lots of hot apple cinnamon herbal tea with a Mexican cinnamon stick for extra spice. And some OJ and Sprite for the vitamin C. And the first few days, some Alka Seltzer Cold. I did do Wheat Grass Juice on Monday, but it just drained my nose into my chest. Nearly gone though, I shall prevail.

Nearly May, and Mother’s Day and ten years since I graduated from Denison. Our reunion is in June, and right now we’re trying to sort out which of the Betonians are able to come and what we’ll do. So many so far away (we Miss you!) or with brand new babies. Congrats to all the new (or second time) parents! We’ll miss you, too.

Also going to Sage’s release party tomorrow, her book: Love Sucks is being released tomorrow by Musa Publishing. In any eBook format you could possibly want. Congrats Sage!

Rich and I did give in and start playing WoW for real again. I’m almost to 50 pets, and and have 33 mounts. But I’ve gotta learn to play Plants vs Zombies better. Considering rezzing my old account and combining it with my new one, but we’ll see. Might be too much effort. Might not.

Still waiting on contract from Mongoose Publishing. Really excited for the chance to work with them. 🙂 They’re super busy, though, so I’m patient.

It’s May, and COLD. Sunny out today, but cold rain is no fun. Supposed to be warm by now. Global warming my foot. I’ve been wrapped up in blankets all week.

So, looking forward.

I’ve started writing down everything I’m eating again, and how I feel each morning. Keep track, look for correlations and have proof to discuss with the doctor next month. Hopefully it’ll go better this month. ::Glares at the stress monsters and locks their closet door up tight::

Rich started his new job and is up to his ears in server issues. But he’s Enjoying it. So, Yay!

I’ve got more scheduled hours next week. So good there. My hands are not cooperating though, shelving is quite hard some mornings. But I’m working on it. My manager is aware, but unfortunately, this makes me first candidate for don’t come in, there’s not enough shelving to do. She’s offered to give me more zone maintenance instead, though, so that’s fun.

First major project complete. Second project is just this month – finishing a story I started, and finishing the book I’m reading.  This summer, I think is going to be computer science. I’ve gathered lots of learning links from Wikiversity, MIT’s free online course material,  Joomla references, and JSPWiki and I have a couple WordPress books. Just have to sort out and organize myself to make a plan for study. If I could go back to school and get a web design/programming degree for free, that would just be awesome. Alas, they tend to want money for that sort of thing, and a broader course of study.

Last weekend’s Penguicon party was a success – officially and everything. Just a few weeks more until MarCon madness(still need a toga). Then just over a month til Ba-Con(mmm, Bacon…). Fortunately, I’ll just be going to enjoy the latter in a mostly unofficial capacity, I think. Fun times, either way, with wonderful friends.

Things to do, stuff to clean, story to write. Time to end. Until next week.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Somehow this one only got saved as a draft on December 9th instead of posted… So here’s that week’s post, and I’m working on this week’s….

It has been snowing and cold for the last week. Really cold. Below freezing most of the time cold. The snow has not been much around here. Dustings, really. But enough that people have had their usual bout with learning how to driving in snow for the year. Not that they will get a whole lot better, but at least they’ve had a reminder. My front lawn was half snow dusted, half still green in the bright shining sun today. It actually looked pretty neat.

Not a lot going on. Christmas shopping for the nieces and nephew complete. Schedule for when we get to deliver them still up in the air. Plans for our Christmas dinner and movie still incomplete as well. Just biding our time and trying not to let the year speed to a finish quite yet.

I got my copies of Daily Bites of Flesh yesterday. My first story published in a real bound book. So, that’s pretty cool.

Lots of hours at the store this month, so that’s good, but leaves me tired with all the early mornings. Hopefully I’ll have something more interesting to say next week.
