Well into Fall now, the trees have all turned and the temps have dropped. Soup and chilli is the order of the day.

I had one conference this week on digital collections in Ohio, and tomorrow is Academic Library Association of Ohio’s yearly conference. Lots of networking and learning this week. Next week begins several weeks of intensively scheduled instruction sessions. Busy times at the college.

I’m doing a lot more drawing and writing lately, as well. Stories for the pictures and pictures for the stories. Nothing complete, just bits of inspiration to get me started. Enjoying it thoroughly. Also learned to use air airbrush to prime miniatures this week. Now to find time to paint them.

In books, I’m still working on Embrace Your Weird (Felicia Day) took a break from Grave Peril (Jim Butcher) because Over the Top (Jonathan Van Ness) came in from the library. I’m behind in my comics because life and creating. 🙂

For anyone who hasn’t seen, yet. Here are about 1100 photos from my Dublin and UK Trip. I had an awesome time, and am excited to go back again. Hopefully, before I have to renew my passport.

Quiet week at work, but we’ll be getting our new supervisor in a couple weeks. Got my flu shot this week. Eager for my big project to start next month. Lots of teaching and conferences this month.

I’m enjoying drafting comic layouts in preparation for making visual stories. Need to finish up the comic crafting lessons and grab a few of the drawing lessons soon. The “finished” pages might go up over at CatesCreativeDesign eventually.

Currently listening to Every Tool’s a Hammer by Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame. Next is finishing Punch Escrow, then Felicia Day’s new book Embrace Your Weird. Also need to catch up on DIE and A Darkened Wish comics which just came out this week.

We’re into Autumn now, cooler nights and turning trees. The days are still warm, but you can feel the change.

Columbus State does a Day of Service each year, and this time, I got to help work on a house for Habitat for Humanity. Hard hat, hammer, and all.

According to our Newsletter, over 800 volunteers went to 83 sites in Columbus. A good day for all.

More teaching as the same really ramps up, with two classes tomorrow. One for teachers and on for students. Looking forward to a couple conferences in October. And…

I got the Grant for Archival things!!! Still some paperwork to do, but other than that… !!! All the excitement!

At home, working on creative things. Learning about drawing and comics. Getting ready for a combo Inktober and NaNoWriMo. Hoping to make a graphic novel of sorts over the next few months, or at least a few introductory issues. I have some characters to explore.

Been trying to finish up the photos, but it’s a lot. Maybe this weekend.

In books… Listened to Cursed by Benedict Jacka, and Storm Front by Jim Butcher, Karamo by Karamo Brown, Naturally Tan by Tan France. Now I’m on The Punch Escrow by Tal M. Klein because it’s narrated by Matthew Mercer.

My presentation went well. GenCon was packed with fun, games, art, and people. The live show was amazing. My games were fun, we even made friends with the monster in the Cthulhu game.

WorldCon was also a great time. I met all the authors I planned to and a few more. I got books signed, played games, and made new friends. I met The Library Bards and got a picture with them and a signed one of them. I went to panels and concerts and even danced one night away.

Dublin, Edinburgh, Loch Lomond, Glasgow, London, and Bristol made for a very busy sightseeing trip. I saw lots of castles, cathedrals, cemeteries/crypts, buildings, and monuments of all shapes and sizes. Photos will be forthcoming when they are edited and organized.

Back to work this first week of the semester has been a rough transition, but we survived. I caught up on email, and trade mags, and organized the next run of our Research Guide awareness campaign. Next week it’s right back into the swing of welcome fairs and teaching information literacy.

Over vacation I read a Lot of Comics. From Jessica Jones to Ms Marvel to DIE to Locke and Key to Killmonger to Mister Miracle and probably a few more I am forgetting. I finished listening to Fated by Benedict Jacka and will be starting Cursed soon.

Looking forward to football and Ohio Renaissance festival starting this weekend!

Women’s History Month March 8, 2019

Or Herstory month, as my morning brunch was calling it. Lead by an amazing woman here at CSCC, who is leading the charge for equal pay and better maternity/paternity leave policies. Dr Crystal Clark is a wonderful speaker, and left us with this message: It is better to speak, and be a powerful and dangerous woman, than to be silent and forgotten. When we stand up for ourselves, we stand up for everyone. Happy International Women’s Day, indeed.

In other work news, I am tabulating my use and usability tests to create action items for a meeting next week. I am also preparing a presentation with a co-worker for our In Service Day next month. We are heading into Spring Break this weekend (for students anyway).

In life… ConCoction was a fun weekend with friends. Going to see Captain Marvel tonight. I’ve spent my week obsessing over the Critical Role Kickstarter which made its goal in 40 minutes, and has had to scramble to create new stretch goals when we blasted past all their original ones in less than 9 hours. We are well on our way (6 episodes so far) to an animated series.

In book news, I finished Girl of Paper and Fire, and started listening to Stephen Fry talking about Victorian Secrets. Next up is Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. I have finally finished Campaign one of Critical Role. Next is catching up on Relics and Rarities. I’ve read a few more Captain Marvel comics, as well as the Vox Machina Origins series. A new issue of DIE is out, and I should read Locke and Key v. 3 soon, too.

Heading to a convention soon. Looking forward to a weekend of relaxing with friends. May do some writing, I have a story that is poking my brain a bit today. Otherwise, planning to hang out, maybe play some games.

Had my final usability test this week, and it was a really good one. Excited to move forward with gathering all the data together and making a plan with the team. We have Spring Break coming up in a couple weeks, but it doesn’t change my calendar.

Still working my way through Girl of Paper and Fire in audiobooks. I’ve read a bunch of Ms. Marvel comics in preparation for the movie, as well as Umbrella Academy in prep for the Netflix show. This week’s art lesson was the full body, but I won’t be showing that here, it was challenging.

The semester has started and the students and winter have returned in full force. Icy mornings, and full computer banks fill my days.

This coming weekend is also DeCon, in a new hotel. And we will be full of Pirates. We have a pirate family coming, and our very own pirate artist as Guest of Honor, along with our usual shenanigans.

On a creative note, I have restarted my gaming blog, and added my NaNo project, planning to put a lot of my new writing online. This time as a separate account at WordPress: Ravonlocke.

Watching: I am up to Episode 75 of Critical Role, campaign one. Listening: I finished Mask of Shadows and started Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. Reading: I have moved on to Locke and Key v. 2, and read DIE Issue 1, a D&D + Jumanji mashup. Looking forward to A Darkened Wish. I did read the first volume of Saga over the holidays, and bought a bunch of comics on sale. And finally figured out that Chronicles of Atlantis is an Aquaman comic. (This is how little I knew before The Wednesday Club.) There is just So Much.

So looking forward to the weekend. I’ve not been sleeping well this week, much sleep will be had come Saturday. 🙂

I am officially registered for my fall Internship Culminating Experience. So, that’s happy and awesome. Classes have calmed down, so that’s good. Just need to finish up a few references and turn in the Case Study, and this week will be done.

New manager is working to get us streamlined and in shape. So far it’s going alright. I got two memberships this week, so far, so that’s major good for me. We’re making Vinyl an even bigger thing, come July, so that should be interesting. Also a TON of pop culture events in July: Dr Who, Minions, Marvel and DC, even a Manga day… and stuff for smaller kids, too like Magic Tree House. Okay, so Minions is a kid event, but I know lots of adults (self included) who love them. So, looks to be a fun month coming up.

I’m definitely taking a break, come August. 😉
