This first week of April has slipped past. Happy Birthday to Mom, albeit belated by the time of this post. Hope you had a lovely week!

It’s been dreary and rainy down here, but getting warmer bit by bit. Might actually be spring soon.

My excitement about the newly hired Systems Librarian has borne out. She is friendly and motivated and we already have Big Plans for the archives.

I am finished with my big study and the fruits are beginning to ripen. I just need a bit more feedback from my team, and permission from Legal, then I can do all the things! This also will include writing a proper professional research paper to be published somewhere, giving a presentation with a partner at In Service, and giving a solo presentation at a statewide conference this summer.

In fun things, I have done more drawings with PubDraw and Babs Tarr:

And the Kickstarter reached the final goal! A full season of animated CR will be released late next year!

In reading/listening, I finally finished The Night Circus. I also finished Friday Black and The Prisoner of Limnos. The first issue of Dungeons and Dragons: A Darkened Wish comic was good, eager for more. And I finished the Captain Marvel volume I was reading for movie background. Next up, finishing the final issue of DIE, another gaming-based comic, and The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater.

Crazy weather week had me running around coatless one day and freezing the next. Sorry for the late post.

Spring Break at work went quietly and well. I got to have a meeting about my big project and get some plans in place. We will have an awareness campaign over the next few months and hopefully be able to provide better resources in a more accessible way to all our students.

In health news, my weight is mostly maintaining a slight downward trajectory. I have started seeing a therapist to work on anxiety and self care to keep my journey going in a healthy direction. I have also started writing a new short story and my drawing is improving, too.

I finished listening to Every Heart a Door by Seanan McGuire and now am on to Friday Black, written by Nana Qwame Adjei-Brenyah, the older brother of a good friend. I am also very excited for a new comic coming out this week: A Darkened Wish, written by B. Dave Walters and drawn by Tess Fowler. And also, the Critical Role Kickstarter just surpassed another stretch goal, now reaching over 10 times the original requested amount!

We’re having another day off thanks to Ohio weather. This time I noticed Before getting out of bed. So, slept in and have spent my morning practicing drawing. Getting better bit by bit, thanks to Babs Tarr:

First and Fifth lessons.

At work, I only have one more Card Sort until I am done with my Usability tests. Then analysis and changes to propose and make. We’re also going to be trying out new website software (an upgrade, so not Completely new), which will be great for this.

At home, still working on weight loss, and I’m nearing 20lbs off since I started. It is Con season, so I had some puppy sitting last weekend, and I have a con in early March, that I’m excited for.

In reading, I finished listening to Children of Blood and Bone. Now, I am on Girl of Paper and Fire, by Natasha Ngan. In CR world, I am up to Episode 105 of 115, so nearly done with campaign one of Critical Role. Excited and terrified, but the January throw back episode is coming out this weekend, so that will help. And I might be joining a monster of the month D&D game, too, with brand new kid players.

Day two of no work/school because of the Polar Vortex. I’ve taken it easy, watching Critical Role and cleaning up my house. I even did the Pub Draw working on facial features.

At work this week, I did manage to get one card sort interview completed. I also got started on a new research guide and started preparing for a class for next week.

In listening, I ran out of time on Children of Blood and Bone, so I had to re-reserve it. Now, I am listening to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It is super weird. I’m up to CR episode 86, so only 20 more to go. Finished D.I.E. 2 and subscribed to the series.

Well, it’s definitely winter down here in Ohio. Temperatures have plummeted, and frost and snow keep covering the cars and ground. Nothing serious, yet, but just enough to remind us of the season.

At work, I’ve finished the Guided Interviews of my Usability Study, and next week I try to tempt random volunteers for a card sort exercise. It’ll be finals week, so I don’t know if I’ll get any, but it’s worth a try. Then we have a month-long break between semesters, including an entire week+ off between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day. That will be awesome, first time ever, for me. Have already started planning family visits and gaming marathons.

Along the gaming lines, I’ve had a spectacular few weeks, having successfully completed our Marathon and finished off two campaigns. All by defeating super-powerful entities that people/cultists/dragons were trying to bring in/rise up/free to take over the world. Huzzah!

On the reading front, I’m still making my way through City of Brass, but I have quite a few thing waiting in the wings, thanks to reading Publisher’s Weekly at work. I’m still trying to make my way through Campaign 1 of Critical Role, and have made it through Episode 47 so far.

On the writing front, I’ve started writing holiday letters to people, typing up my marathon notes as though being told by the character I played, and an ever-growing backstory for my next marathon character. I’ll have another character backstory to write on Tuesday, as well. I’m still journaling, and pondering the next few scenes for my NaNo piece, too.

Please, go Vote!

I’m planning on an early lunch to vote today. I did all my research yesterday, plus a few discussions with friends on the big Ohio issue. It helps to talk it out, even if you all don’t agree.

In life, I’ve started my NaNoWriMo, and am at around 6700 words so far. The characters are coming together, literally and figuratively. Soon, I must bring in the impetus to form a cohesive group for at least some of them. Despite fantasy tropes, all of them have living parents at the start of the story. Disappointed parents, in some cases, but living. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

At work, still slogging through the chore of finding student volunteers. The two I’ve had come in have provided very good feedback, however, so that’s a plus. The conference last week was interesting, very good keynote speakers.

I am listening to Death’s Mistress, another Terry Goodkind novel in the car, as I am taking a break from my Vox Machina obsession, so as to get my own writing done. I have a Rifts character to put together for Thanksgiving, who will be interesting. I’ve picked up a new book to help out, as I’m not terribly good at Rifts:

Work was pretty slow this past week. Getting ready for the usability study, but that’s a lot of hurry up and wait. More to do this week.

In creativity news, I’ve decided to do NaNoWriMo next month and have started to work on characters. I’ve also started a handwritten daily journal. My mind has been so cluttered, I need to get back to writing. I even worked on characters at the RenFest this weekend. It was Barbarian Invasion weekend, and the horses showed up in force.

In audio, I’m up to episode 14 of Vox Machina. I spent a good deal of time this weekend on old movies: Angels with Dirty Faces, Chinatown, Brazil… And as if the last wasn’t odd enough, finished off with a newer oddity, The Fountain.

Hocking Hills Weekend October 7, 2018

We had a great weekend at a cabin in the Hocking Hills. Playing board games and D&D. Last weekend I went to the RenFaire again, and watched three jousts, three mud shows, a couple pirate shows and bits and pieces of other shows.

At work I’ve gotten my survey results and made lots of pretty pie charts. Now, I’m working on getting the Usability Study organized and running.

In the audio world, I’ve caught up on Season two of Critical Role and I’ve started Season one. It was really fun to watch their live show at NY ComicCon and I’ve been watching a lot of random related videos on Geek and Sundry, as well. Since the last post, I’ve finished Dread Nation and also listened to Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. On the writing side, I’ve pickup up an old gifted journal to get my creative brain rolling again.

It was a very rainy week, the weekend even more so. I finished the guide I was working on for The Power of Words. Working with a professor, I also created a couple new course guides for Social and Human Services. Coming up this week, is the next OhioDIG Meeting and the rescheduled Week of Welcome events. Will they get rained out again, we shall see.

On the fun side of thing, both D&D campaigns this week. Fun was had, near-death experiences, and things going epically wrong. I swear, it wasn’t All my fault. 😉

I also went to the Ohio Renaissance Festival today, in the chilly rain. But I dressed for it and the shows were fun as always. Finally got to see the Dante’s Inferno mud show! Found a tiny pewter moth for my collection. Had a beef stew bread bowl and saw a few friends. 10k+ steps to boot.

On the health front, joints are holding stable, maybe a slight up turn. Not great, but not terrible test results on other things. And a new (to me) stationary bike now in my living room.

I need to take a break from Critical Role, but am loving it so much! I have three books that’ll expire if I don’t listen to them soon, though.

My niece’s had their birthdays this week, I hope they had a great time!

A quiet week at work. I spent a lot of time working on my JavaScript skills. We said goodbye to a coworker who is heading out on a new adventure. And I learned more about using my Strengths in life.

Spent a lot of time with friends this weekend. Went to a grand opening of a second location of a local gaming store, too. This one is quite near me. I even bought my first unpainted mini for a new D&D campaign I joined earlier this month. (And ordered a second.) I then spent a heck of a lot of time watching painting videos by my friend Vince. Painting my Cleric list.

On a similar note, instead of books, I switched over to a podcast this week. Critical Role podcast on Geek and Sundry.
