After a week of baking and preparation, I have had a very nice Christmas weekend. I got lots of cookies in the cookie swap, and this week, I shared them with a group of friends. I cooked up my usual Chex/Crispix mix and shared it with my gaming friends. I exchanged presents with a few good friends, and soaps with a few old friends. I got to visit Alyssa and Noah and then Alyssa and I got to visit Erika and her little one. (Alyssa and I even when to Frank’s for lunch.) I even got to have dinner with Erika, the little one, and Brian. Christmas Eve and Day, I got to spend with my favorite puppy, make a Christmas roast, and eat all sorts of cookies. 😉  On the Eve, I watched Die Hard and Die Harder, Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. (It amuses me that there is only one movie between Return and Last.) 😉

In the library field, I only work two days this week before visiting my brother on Thursday (hopefully), and gaming all weekend. (And Chewy.com’s commercial’s doorbell just set off the Ralphie.) I have four applications out, in various stages of consideration. Full-time job in the new year <fingers crossed>.

As for books, I listened to I am Malala last week. This week, I started Mists of Avalon, and for my long drives, I’ve got Summer Knight keeping me company.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and will have a safe New Year.

Fourth Thanksgiving dinner of the week had, and all enjoyed with good friends. Also had a nice lunch with family on Sunday. Was good to see Mom, Dad, Pete, and the kids. So thankful to have so many wonderful people in my life, and such supportive family.

Looking forward to a weekend of silly gaming. We’re using NGS to play various objects in a wizard tower, defending our home from invading animal-featured homunculi.   Should be a fun and relaxing break from work.

Job search continues, and my boss, while glad I’m not leaving yet, is very supportive of my efforts. As are the rest of my team. I am thankful to have such great coworkers, as well, as two jobs that I enjoy.

I am 3/4 done with Mad Ship, and eager to see how Artemis follows The Martian.

Sorry about the late post, I spent yesterday working, and moving gear into the DeCon hotel. It’s going to be a lovely weekend relaxing and partying with friends. I had a great time last weekend watching musicals with friends, as well. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful life and great friends.

Work moves along at it’s usual pace. Fingers crossed for a big change soon. But the library continues to find new ways to serve our customers, this year the focus is on, not what we think they want, but finding out what they Really want.

Started into Callahan’s Chronicles this week, while waiting on the hold lists. Finished White Night, and am now into Small Favor on the Dresden front.

Right now, I’m waiting for lunch to finish cooking so I can eat and get out to DeCon. 🙂

Merry Yule, Happy Solstice, and Merry Christmas!

Christmas

Hope everyone is having a great holiday season. I’ve attended two gatherings so far, five more to go. Having a great time with friends, and this weekend, I get to spend time with the puppy, too.

Rogue One was a great movie, looking forward to seeing it again. 🙂 Still listening to more Dresden at home – up to book 6 now.  Still working on Captain’s Fury at work. Have another short story collection ready to go next.

Work is good, and fairly busy. I’ve got a handful of applications out for full time work, as well.

Hope everyone has a wonderful, and safe, holiday season.

3 out of 4 parts of my vacation complete. Fourth part starts in about a half an hour when my parents arrive. It’s been a great time, so far.  Great to relax for a few days after finishing all my grad school exams. Wonderful to see high school friends again, and share their joy. And fun to see my nieces and nephew for birthday celebrations yesterday. Before I get back to the final grind at B&N, I also get to spend a couple days with my parents. 🙂 Who have made grad school possible. So grateful!

As promised, my Webdesign Final Project: http://www.CatesCreativeDesign.com

More content to come if I have time this month, and certainly this fall with my internships.

Time to finish cleaning before the parents arrive. 😉

Had a great weekend down in Cincinnati meeting new people, learning new things, eating good food. This is my weekend off between cons, so I’m spending it relaxing… and possibly bowling, or maybe just cheering.

Class work was pretty quick this week, too. More fun with Excel. Getting all the basics down before we get into the meat of the class. Two more weeks until I start my second class. So, I’ll enjoy the slow pace while it lasts.

Still reading Kushiel’s Dart (did I mention it’s really long). But have also started Book 3 of War with the Chtorr. Book five, which had been on the coming soon list at B&N, is now back out of the system… again. Ah well, most people said it was a false hope.

And apparently a partial solar eclipse today, too. 🙂

Homework that is due this week is officially complete. I still have project work to do for the project that is due end of next week, but probably won’t work on that until the weekend. Just one more week of Intro to Digital Preservation to go!

Brain is just about as fried as my body. Work was rough today. 210 boxes in the door, I had to stack them all up to start, and then receive and move 120 of them. So much fun. But I’m learning new things about receiving. That’s good, right? Another day at it tomorrow.

Had a great time last week at the first party of the Halloween season. This weekend is party two, and then three in a row next week!  Also had a great time seeing Marianne and Daniel in from Scotland, and catching up with a bunch of local college friends to boot! Was very good to see them all, I haven’t even made it over to Denison lately.

Finally made it to gaming two weeks in a row, and I’m really getting invested in my character for the first time in Months! And then she nearly died last night, too. But they saved me. 🙂 So many good books lately, too. Really enjoying In the Net of Dreams and Where Dreams Collide this week.

MarCon was great this past weekend. I had a blast with all my friends from far and wide. It was good to relax and hang out. The new cups are pretty, and kept trash to a minimum. The new sound system was sweet, and kept both rooms rocking. I’m told we even had some toddlers dancing in a nearby room.

This weekend is more hanging out with friends Friday, a small get-together on Saturday, and then family on Sunday. Mom’s even bringing me her very own homemade tomato sauce! I am ridiculously excited about her sauce. 🙂

Monday is the start of my May-term management class. Three weeks to do ten modules. And I had to buy three books for it. Wheee fun! So I’ll be starting that this weekend, too, because next weekend is camping. Yay, camping!

A wet and windy week here in Ohio. Much better than the ice and snow folks are getting way up north. So, I’ll take it.

Had a great time celebrating a birthday with friends this past weekend. Pub food and card games made for an excellent night. Did some sewing with another friend on Sunday. Was nice and relaxing.

Went to a Digitization Interest Group meeting on Monday. Met a good handful of people and listened to a couple really interesting presentations. Yay, networking!

Started our new Undermountain campaign last night, with brand new characters. We’re testing out the latest revision of Legacy of Heroes. Might have a Skeeter-narrated post soon about that.

This weekend is our April party – board game themed in honor of national board game day ion Saturday. So, spending the weekend setting up, having fun and cleaning up.

Registered for two of my fall classes on Sunday night, as well. The fall workshops aren’t listed yet, so waiting on that. Looks like one of my classes is the full 15 weeks, and the other is the usual 10.

Down to one class for these first couple weeks of April, then my database website workshop. The syllabus looks interesting – almost all new stuff for me to learn about. 🙂

Spring!!! March 20, 2014

They say it’s spring today. They also say tomorrow is going to start with snow and end with 60 degree temps. Ah, Ohio. Welcome to spring, my friends, family, and readers.

I had a great weekend with friends both here and up north last weekend. There was much silliness and bacon. Opting out of going north again this weekend, but still plenty of fun to be hand here at home.

I also have a final project that I’m hoping to finish up tonight, and a midterm test to take on Saturday. And I have to finish editing the NGS book by end of day Sunday. But then it’s Spring Break! Weeee! No homework for a week! 😉

In other news, I bought my plane tickets to England. They’re for June instead of August as I realized I have more of a break (three weeks instead of one) between classes earlier in the summer. I get to fly through DC and Brussels to get there, but I’m going straight from Columbus to Bristol (and back) without having to get a train to and from London. K’s already being to plan Things We Must Do. So looking forward to seeing her!!!
