After a week of baking and preparation, I have had a very nice Christmas weekend. I got lots of cookies in the cookie swap, and this week, I shared them with a group of friends. I cooked up my usual Chex/Crispix mix and shared it with my gaming friends. I exchanged presents with a few good friends, and soaps with a few old friends. I got to visit Alyssa and Noah and then Alyssa and I got to visit Erika and her little one. (Alyssa and I even when to Frank’s for lunch.) I even got to have dinner with Erika, the little one, and Brian. Christmas Eve and Day, I got to spend with my favorite puppy, make a Christmas roast, and eat all sorts of cookies. πŸ˜‰Β  On the Eve, I watched Die Hard and Die Harder, Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. (It amuses me that there is only one movie between Return and Last.) πŸ˜‰

In the library field, I only work two days this week before visiting my brother on Thursday (hopefully), and gaming all weekend. (And Chewy.com’s commercial’s doorbell just set off the Ralphie.) I have four applications out, in various stages of consideration. Full-time job in the new year <fingers crossed>.

As for books, I listened to I am Malala last week. This week, I started Mists of Avalon, and for my long drives, I’ve got Summer Knight keeping me company.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and will have a safe New Year.

Mom and I had a great visit. Dr Strange was a very fun movie, enjoyed it very much. We got curtains and rugs, and a few other things to upgrade my new place. Thank you, Mom. Pictures will come when I finish getting them up – having a bit of wall trouble, but soon. All it all, a good weekend. This coming weekend will be full of busy, too. Parties with friends, and work, and a meeting. All the things.

Work is going well. Gaming is good, we’re about to wrap up one chapter of our current campaign, and then switch gears to a new one. Next week is Thanksgiving, not sure how many dinners I’ll be having – at least three, and one potluck. Some folks are heading off to weekend conventions, so I’ll get some puppy time. πŸ™‚

Finished listening to Off to Be the Wizard – silly book. Now I’m on The Door Into Summer. Strange so far, but then what Heinlein isn’t. I’ve got a few more holds, and one more Heinlein on the line.

And apparently a partial solar eclipse today, too. πŸ™‚

Homework that is due this week is officially complete. I still have project work to do for the project that is due end of next week, but probably won’t work on that until the weekend. Just one more week of Intro to Digital Preservation to go!

Brain is just about as fried as my body. Work was rough today. 210 boxes in the door, I had to stack them all up to start, and then receive and move 120 of them. So much fun. But I’m learning new things about receiving. That’s good, right? Another day at it tomorrow.

Had a great time last week at the first party of the Halloween season. This weekend is party two, and then three in a row next week! Β Also had a great time seeing Marianne and Daniel in from Scotland, and catching up with a bunch of local college friends to boot! Was very good to see them all, I haven’t even made it over to Denison lately.

Finally made it to gaming two weeks in a row, and I’m really getting invested in my character for the first time in Months! And then she nearly died last night, too. But they saved me. πŸ™‚ So many good books lately, too. Really enjoying In the Net of Dreams and Where Dreams Collide this week.

Relaxing weekend. Hung out with friends on Friday. Watched OSU’s homecoming football game with the pup and cat on Saturday, while doing my final Tech homework assignment. My Foundations book put me to sleep for a bit on Sunday. Saw my old boss in one of my lecture videos, she is now director of the KSU Archives and Special Collections.

Monday was grand adventure day. A group of us drove to Virginia and back to retrieve an ebay purchase made of cast iron. It was fun and the weather was as beautiful as the scenery. We stopped at a local BBQ place for lunch with one of the guy’s friends. The smoked meat was nice and juicy, which was good as I wasn’t as keen on their sauces.

One more week to finish the Tech class group website and that class is done. Foundations is end loaded with work, but it will be the only thing I’m working on in November. Next week is Spring registration, as well. Class choices are pretty well set with cores, but a workshop is still to be chosen.

For those interested in such things, we’ve started a new campaign on Tuesday – playing goblins in Undermountain. I’ve started a new blog to chronicle the adventure: Skeeter in Undermountain. English majors beware, it is in goblin voice.

Halloween party this weekend and things just get crazier next week. And so it begins.

The internet finally got connected last last Friday night. Yesterday, I received delivery of a brand new fridge. Today, the exterminators came through again. So, now, the apartment is almost complete. I still have to push everything back against the walls, repopulate the closets, bathroom and cabinets. I still have to unpack the kitchen, unload the food from the car and fill in the fridge. But I’m nearly there.

School starts in less than a month, first textbook is on its way. Can’t wait to get started. Working long hours at the store, learning new things, trying new modes of operation. Still taking apps and interviewing if you are looking for a job.

This weekend looks to hold lots of sleeping, if I get everything back together before the weekend starts. But there are also lots of opportunities to hang out with friends. There’s a board/card gaming weekend hosted by a couple friends. There’s the Dublin Irish Festival. And I’m going down to Cinci for lunch with Nancy on Sunday.Β  It could be another busy weekend, or it could just be a nice lunch and lots of relaxing.

We’re going to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 on Sunday, so I’ve been reading all the books again in preparation. I know the movies are different and cut a lot of stuff out, that’s to be expected, I just wanted to remember it all correctly before the final movie. I’m starting Deathly Hallows today. πŸ™‚

It’s a busy week for me. Two days of thrifting for clothes. A haircut. (Thank you, JoJo!) Wonderful evenings with friends and loved ones. Meals out to celebrate. A couple full 8-hour shifts at work. Lots of reading, a little writing. Even some responsible stuff at the BMV. Having a great time, and looking forward to spending my birthday with Rich and other friends at an incidental pool party between our birthday lunch and our movie endeavor.

Up next week – probably going to raid Half Price to finish out a few collections with whatever birthday money is left unspent. One more bit of editing for the gaming book. And hopefully some FTP details so I can do some more website work. As well as over 20 hours at the store.

Life is not just good, it’s great. πŸ™‚

The apartment is nearly unpacked. The gaming book is getting closer to print. I’ve almost got the information I need to fix the website. My birthday is just over a week away. I’m on book five of seven. And the possibility of being a librarian that I thought was completely shot, has a dim light reappearing. Things are moving along nicely.

Pictures of the apartment:

The living room.

The back of the living room, note how the bookcases are accessible. πŸ˜‰
And the desks fill out the wall to the left.

And our library upstairs, soon to have a papasan for more comfortable curling up.

Life is good and another cookout with friends this weekend to boot. πŸ™‚

I didn’t exactly forget that the 4th of July was coming, I just didn’t take it into account in my plans. I grabbed a lot of things that needed done and thought I’d have the whole weekend to do them. I was wrong. I ended up going to visit friends in Michigan for the weekend and then spending Monday at a picnic and cooking out.

I had a great time. It was good to see Erika, Kate and JD, as well as their families. The campfire was nice and the kayaking was a lot of fun. I didn’t even get sunburned or sore muscles. I did, however, get mosquito bites. Which got multiplied on Monday. It’s summer, though, so bug bites are required, I suppose.

As far as the apartment, that got majorly stalled, but I got a pantry rack yesterday and now the kitchen is complete. All that’s left now are the desks and entertainment system and final clean up. We have discovered a problem with the oven – it smells of gas when on (not the stove, just the oven), and sets off the smoke detectors (I guess they don’t just detect smoke). So I’ll be calling in the morning to have that looked at. I also Googled the problem for a few things to check myself if maintenance takes forever.

I’m working on the first full edit of The Legacy of Heroes this week as well. I have enjoyed the play-tests so far, but reading everything in detail makes me want to play/create characters even more. When I get through the whole thing, I may even understand it all. πŸ™‚

Ba-Con this weekend! So that’ll be a great time. Gaming, geeks and Bacon!

Packing a Library June 9, 2011

I finished step one of packing today – the books. It took 45 boxes this time. Some small, but still heavy, some a little too big, and very heavy. The DVDs, VHS and video games are almost all packed, too. Just a few stragglers left. The pewter is all packed, except for the thimble, stubbornly hiding in a tower crenelation. Office stuff and knickknacks are next on the list. I’ve got some really big boxes for bedroom and kitchen stuff, but have nearly run out of smaller boxes for “other” again. We’re probably going to get storage tubs in the next couple days for the stuff that’s going to go into the basement of the new place. That’ll free up some boxes if I repack into them a bit. Still working out the finalΒ  logistics of the day – trucks/vans, volunteers, getting the lease signed, and the keys in hand. I may have to ask someone to take my shift that morning. Need to find out when the leasing office opens. I know they have limited Showing hours on the weekend.

What else is new? I’m going to start working on a friend’s website next week. Officially, paid and everything. I’ve been waiting on this job for months. Must fix the mess the last person she hired made. Yes, I’ll link to it after it’s pretty and working properly.

Registering for BaCon tonight. Bacon and Gaming convention put together by friends. Should be a fun time. Haven’t actually gamed at a convention in years. Gotta get back to WarpCon some day, too. Hmm, passports. Really gotta get those soon.

Much to do. πŸ™‚
