Sorry about the late post, folks.  This past week has been crazy busy.

Final week of Intro to Digital Preservation has been completed. Final project has been turned in. I fully expect an A in this class. And I actually had a great time doing the group project. My group members all worked really hard and were more than willing to take on responsibilities. My only complaints were nothing to do with the project, having to wait for discussion posts so I could reply to them. One more month of Digital Libraries to go. And then I have just over a month off for the holidays. Spring classes are set and ready to go. Including the workshop I wanted to take. <fingers crossed>

Had a great Halloween weekend with friends. Our three-night party was spectacular, if exhausting. I slept for twelve hours today, and still had to force myself out of bed this evening. Last week’s party was great, too, and Much more relaxing. Next week’s party should be more of the same, though a bit more work as my group here in town is hosting.

Still haven’t escaped the store, so holiday season 14 is beginning. With extra insanity, and tons of new faces. I just keep plugging away, doing my job, and applying to everything I can find in the library-sphere. The main Kent campus had a job fair recently. Really wish we were having one down here, too, like last year. But I haven’t heard anything to that affect.

Life is good. The challenges just keep me on my toes.

And apparently a partial solar eclipse today, too. 🙂

Homework that is due this week is officially complete. I still have project work to do for the project that is due end of next week, but probably won’t work on that until the weekend. Just one more week of Intro to Digital Preservation to go!

Brain is just about as fried as my body. Work was rough today. 210 boxes in the door, I had to stack them all up to start, and then receive and move 120 of them. So much fun. But I’m learning new things about receiving. That’s good, right? Another day at it tomorrow.

Had a great time last week at the first party of the Halloween season. This weekend is party two, and then three in a row next week!  Also had a great time seeing Marianne and Daniel in from Scotland, and catching up with a bunch of local college friends to boot! Was very good to see them all, I haven’t even made it over to Denison lately.

Finally made it to gaming two weeks in a row, and I’m really getting invested in my character for the first time in Months! And then she nearly died last night, too. But they saved me. 🙂 So many good books lately, too. Really enjoying In the Net of Dreams and Where Dreams Collide this week.

October has brought the cold nights, and this weekend, cold days. Which will not be so great for camping, though the rain will be the worse part. Ah well, fun with friends, and campfires.

Classes are still keeping me crazy busy. Next week I’m in charge of the project assignment, so that should be extra fun. All seem to be going pretty well, just have to keep up. Metadata in both classes this week, so at least it coordinates a bit.

Things are stabilizing at work. Unfortunately, this means me going back to appropriate number of hours (25) instead of working 30-40 a week. Change-over actually went really well this week, so that’s good. Still looking for seasonal hires. (And yes, still looking for a library job.)

Soon, it will be Halloween!

This past weekend was a blast. Great nights out with friends and a very nice party on Saturday. We even had some pretty great costumes at work, though not me.

Finished my peer and professor reviews for my Tech class on Sunday, so that class is now done. I’m registered for spring classes. My change in focus, however, has my advisor advising me to find a new advisor, because she doesn’t know as much about the tech classes I want to take. I’m halfway through homework in Foundations for the week, just have response posts to write, and finish a paper on a professional library association and their website. Four weeks left in that class and then I’m done for the semester.

I did, however, pick up a sore throat somewhere over the weekend. It manifested fully Tuesday morning and has been obnoxious since. But it has not come with a fever or cough, yet. ::knockknock:: So I’m feeding it OJ and Sprite tonight, had soup for lunch. And will be getting to bed early today, if things go according to plan. And this weekend will be rest while puppy and kitty sitting, with the usual work thrown in.

Next week, we have a surprise book signing at noon on Wednesday by none other than Sarah Palin – for her new book about keeping Christ in Christmas and being proud of it. It should be quite the day.

Today is the start to a very busy weekend. Three parties in a row, ending in Detroit on Saturday with a lot of the same folk I partied with last weekend in Cleveland. That was a great party, and this weekend should be just as fun (maybe warmer?).

I registered for Spring classes this week – two cores and one workshop. Access to Information, Organization of Information and Database Driven Websites. I also filled out my Program Statement form with my intended classes for the rest of my degree. We shall see how well that works out. Most of the classes I wanted to take were Spring semester only, so I had to get creative. Dr Boon was a great help in sorting things out.

Waiting on my professor to post end of project peer review instructions, so I can finalize my Tech class. Foundations is going along smoothly. I have a topic for my big assignment, and know where I’m doing the first two, just have to get to work on them when things are a bit calmer next week.

Haven’t met the new manager at work yet, but we have brought a good bunch of new folk in for the holidays. Hopefully, it will be enough, though I think they’ve got a few more offers to make as well. Seasonal music sellers are coming back soon, too. Yay! Still looking at libraries, but not getting much, yet.

Relaxing weekend. Hung out with friends on Friday. Watched OSU’s homecoming football game with the pup and cat on Saturday, while doing my final Tech homework assignment. My Foundations book put me to sleep for a bit on Sunday. Saw my old boss in one of my lecture videos, she is now director of the KSU Archives and Special Collections.

Monday was grand adventure day. A group of us drove to Virginia and back to retrieve an ebay purchase made of cast iron. It was fun and the weather was as beautiful as the scenery. We stopped at a local BBQ place for lunch with one of the guy’s friends. The smoked meat was nice and juicy, which was good as I wasn’t as keen on their sauces.

One more week to finish the Tech class group website and that class is done. Foundations is end loaded with work, but it will be the only thing I’m working on in November. Next week is Spring registration, as well. Class choices are pretty well set with cores, but a workshop is still to be chosen.

For those interested in such things, we’ve started a new campaign on Tuesday – playing goblins in Undermountain. I’ve started a new blog to chronicle the adventure: Skeeter in Undermountain. English majors beware, it is in goblin voice.

Halloween party this weekend and things just get crazier next week. And so it begins.

Started my next class this week. So much reading – between the assignments and the bios, and the discussion groups. But I like the class, and the professor – she actually replied to our bios, unlike the previous two. Got an A in the Success in MLIS class. The group project in the Tech class is nearing completion. This week is scholarly resources, and then we’re on to summaries and evaluations. Due on Halloween. All assignments done for this week – this weekend’s assignment – scholarship applications.

Birthdays galore this week. Including my Uncle David. Happy Birthday to all!!! I get to snuggle the puppy for a few hours tomorrow as some birthday celebrators head up to NIN concert in Cleveland. Hope they all have fun, too.

Went to a Career Expo tonight, and got lots of advice on getting experience, networking and portfolio building. Talked to a lot of people from interesting organizations, from EBSCO to ARMA to OhioNet to the Society of Ohio Archivists. Not to mention the OLC, the OCLC, co-asis&t, Muskingum University and Upper Arlington Library. It was a really great time, though I wish the presenters had not disappeared, there were a couple I wanted to talk to that I could not find after the panel was done. I did not, however, meet any of my classmates, must get better at being social.

Week Three and Pet Sitting September 12, 2013

Over halfway through one class, and into the first week of group collaboration in the other. Week three is a bit more challenging, but I’m learning all about APA and plagiarism (including how to spell it). The group project gives us instructions in three different formats, two of which directly contradict each other, and the third of which is very vague. An email has been sent to the professor for clarification. But we are getting organized, ever so slowly.

This past weekend was a Fleet party, we had a nice relaxed time, looking at old pictures, playing cards and just generally hanging out away from the oppressive end of summer heat. A group of those folks are now out at Cape Cod for Nauticon, so I get to pet sit the pup and kitty again (and have AC to boot) this weekend.

Slowly planning out my autumn events, lots of fleet events coming up: parties, cons, camping. Waiting to see how it’s all going to work out with my work and school schedules. I’m probably not making to any of the conventions, but I am definitely going camping. Halloween on a Thursday is going to prove tricky.

Friends of ours got married this past weekend. It was a lovely ceremony and hand-fasting. We had a nice, cold afternoon in the park celebrating. And a fun evening at the bride’s mom’s house. There was a campfire, and fire-spinning. Such pretty fire.

Last night was the first night of the annual two-night Halloween party. The crowd was a bit smaller than usual, but we had a good time. Tonight promises to be the huge mass of people we’re used to. I think tomorrow I’m just going to sleep, but there is another party with a big bonfire. Two more parties next week.

Two months until Christmas, retail is heating up. The big setup starts the day after Halloween. Rich is still looking for a new job. Life is a bit crazy, but we’re having fun.

Went to see my brother and his three kids this weekend. Sis-in-Law is out of town most of this month for a trial. So, Rich and I went up Sunday morning to let people get out of the house to help out a church. We played pool and Legos and an Angry Bird card game. Then we ordered pizza and watch a bunch of Pink Panther, and the Barbie version of The Three Musketeers. I napped most of the afternoon while the kids all played with toys and tablets. We had a great time playing the kids, they were very well behaved while Pete was out.

Monday was a shopping day for me. Nationwide decided on my settlement for the car accident, and I used my part of it to get work clothes and a new laptop so I could give the borrowed netbook back. It’s a shiny new 15.6″ Asus, this time with warranty including accidental damage.

Still no luck on the job search front for Rich. Lots of possibilities, waiting on call backs. Lots of work and hours for me, training up the new folks to help out with the heavy stuff. I really appreciated it this week. Step by step, we’re getting holiday setup going. Can hardly wait until it’s done.

This weekend friends are getting married and the Halloween parties begin. I think I will be attending four. Busy seasons.
