May is always a busy month, and this month is no different. First weekend I went up to visit my Parents, Nieces, Brother, and his Fiancée and her kids. Second weekend was MarCon. This weekend was a Pokemon Community Day, Deadpool 2, and lots of cleaning to get ready for next weekend. Next weekend is Barfleet’s annual camping trip. For which, I’ve been busy punching 160+ personalized dogtags, with a very old and cranky machine.

Work is going great. I’m loving all the things I get to do, and my lovely coworkers. I had a great time at Innovate 2018 at OSU, and an ALAO conference called Actively Inclusive. Currently creating a Use and Usability study for our Research Guides.

On the reading front, I finished Dead Beat and listened to The Magician. New Butcher book coming next month, and a buy two for one credit sale on Audible right now. Haven’t looked at it yet, but my credit just came through.

Also, there’s a new baby kitty outside.

Hi Readers! (No spoilers contained within.)

I’ve spent the last three days playing a MechWarrior marathon with my gaming group, and it was amazing. I really love my gaming group, and often, even when I don’t want to leave the house, going to gaming always cheers me up. This weekend, we went to see Infinity War together on Thursday and then played Friday night, all day Saturday and all day Sunday. We had a ton of laughs, tables of junk food, a lot of firefights, some arguing, a few big surprises, some moving moments, and a whole lot of heroics. In the end, we accomplished our mission, slowed down the enemy, and kept each other alive, though missing a few limbs. And every one of us is ready for the next installment.

In the regular world. My job is fantastic. My obsessive attention to detail is helping to improve our Research Guides, and has started a jargon discussion within the team. I’ve helped out a few students with their research and computer skills. We’re going to be checking out a new database on Monday. I’m pulling together statistics for our next Fiscal Year’s budget decisions. And I’m learning a lot about CSCC and its library.

April comes to a close with my first paycheck. And May begins with all my health benefits kicking in. I will also be upgrading my phone, and possibly my bed (some research required). May is going to be a very busy. First up, my parents are coming down, and I’m still working out if I’ve got time to drive up to my brother’s to see them. Second is MarCon on Mother’s Day weekend. Then we finish out the month with a big Memorial Weekend camping trip. I’ve also got at least two small conferences to attend for the library.

I did manage to start listening to Dead Beat on my drive to and from work, and on lunches. And The Magician came through from the library for my next book.

Forgot to post last week, because I was At MarCon. Thursday was setup and welcome party. Friday I worked all day, and got back in time for dinner, crew meeting, and our first public party. Saturday was a bit more relaxed. I got to play Battletech and have more tasty foods, before crew meeting and the big public party. Sunday was tear down and move out, and our dead dog, where I got to play Zombicide and Jackbox quiz games. And back to work on Monday.

I hope all the Mom’s had a great Mother’s Day on Sunday.

This week starts into Summer Games prep, so I spent four hours typing up dogtags last night. (Thus the post today instead of last night.) I won’t have internet connection next Thursday either, but I’ll TRY to remember to prepare a post ahead of time.

Work is going well. I’m getting a bunch of time to work on my project in the next two weeks for MLK. And then we start Summer Reading Club. Which has gone Digital this year.

Finished Lies of Locke Lamora, and got through Stardust. The audiobook is cool because it even has an interview with Gaiman. Then I listened to The Gathering Storm by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson. Now, I’m listening to Leviathan Awakes by Corey, because The Expanse is a great show.

A Very Good Week May 12, 2016

I had a really good time at MarCon with friends this past weekend. Some tasty beverages, as usual, from the bar – even the premixes were delicious (maybe a little Too delicious…). Some very good food from both the hotel and Max & Erma’s. I visited the Art Show and the Dealers Room. All full of fun and crazy things. I even bought a new book, though I resisted buying any art – I really am bad at decorating with what I have already. I also played some games, both at the parties, and in the official gaming area – my first time ever playing a miniatures game – Star Wars Attack Wing, I believe – and I didn’t do too poorly at it, either. I did manage to be too responsible/helpful, and got promoted on Friday night, but my friends took good care of me/celebrated with me.

And the week just got better and better. On Monday, I was asked to do some further paperwork for an interview I’d had. Then, on Wednesday, I was offered, and accepted a new job from the Whitehall branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library – Just up the road from me, and half a block from where I had my internship this fall. I start on the 23rd. So very excited!! (Submitted resignation letter to current job today.) It’s part time, so I can keep cataloging for Sprawl Library, while I get my feet wet learning the CML’s systems. Also, looking forward to being back on my feet and moving around on the job again.

I’ve finished the set of Heinlein I was working on, so now I’m listening to the first book in Brent Week’s Night Angel trilogy – thieves and assassins, my kind of book. 🙂

On a more political note, a post came across my Facebook yesterday that I think is very important: More Than 100 Methodist Ministers Defy Church Rules, Come Out as LGBT. Having grown up in the UMC, I feel that it is high time we remember that God is Love.

Weather continues to be crazy around the US. Making my days on the phone ever so much more exciting. But it makes the days go by, and only a few impatient folks each day.

Down to the last 8 boxes of my initial run through of Collection 1 at Sprawl. I’m nearing 1500 books cataloged so far. with probably another 500 evaluated, but sans ISBNs.

Still tossing out resumes whenever I can find postings that make sense for me. Two months til Main opens back up. Looking forward to seeing what all they’ve done. 🙂

Relaxing this weekend, so I’ll be rested for MarCon next weekend. Should be a fun time. I’ve got a full badge this year, so hoping to check out more than I have the last few years. Do have to nip out on Sunday to go to work, but I did find a volunteer for my Summer Games Sunday. 🙂

Finished The Cat Who Walks Through Walls, and now I’m onto To Sail Beyond the Sunset. Last book in the current Heinlein reading list. I haven’t fully decided where to go next, might see if I can catch up on Salvatore via audio, but I haven’t looked into it yet. I did download some Ray Bradbury and some Ted Talks via Audible’s Channel feature, so I’ve got some bits to fill in, and listen to at Sprawl.

This is my month off, and I’m still exhausted. I had a really good time at the convention this past weekend (sorry, I didn’t post last week), and I’m really looking forward to going camping next week.

Grades are trickling in, looks like A- in both my classes, and Satisfactory in my workshop. Just a few more weeks until I start back up again. At some point I’m going to get to sleep, right? 😉  Maybe August.

The kids broke my mailbox last week, still waiting on a repairman. But the mailman set my mail on the floor yesterday, so I could actually get it.

MarCon was great this past weekend. I had a blast with all my friends from far and wide. It was good to relax and hang out. The new cups are pretty, and kept trash to a minimum. The new sound system was sweet, and kept both rooms rocking. I’m told we even had some toddlers dancing in a nearby room.

This weekend is more hanging out with friends Friday, a small get-together on Saturday, and then family on Sunday. Mom’s even bringing me her very own homemade tomato sauce! I am ridiculously excited about her sauce. 🙂

Monday is the start of my May-term management class. Three weeks to do ten modules. And I had to buy three books for it. Wheee fun! So I’ll be starting that this weekend, too, because next weekend is camping. Yay, camping!

So, this week starts the crazy. I’m pre-writing this to post on Thursday because I won’t be home. This weekend is MARCon here in Columbus and I will be there starting when I get off work on Thursday until Sunday lunch-time. We are hosting three nights in a row, should be a great time. Perfect for my May break from school.

Then, Happy Mother’s Day!!!

The following weekend are events with friends and family. And the weekend after that is camping from Thursday through Monday, homework-load dependent. I still haven’t heard from the professor yet about anything, including the book, but I got the one every other management class has used, and am just hoping that for a three week class, he doesn’t expect us to buy multiple. The weekend after that, I’m staying home for pet sitting while everyone else heads to Cleveland for Concoction. Which should be awesome for them, and homework time for me.

All A’s again this semester. Yay, fun. Looking forward to learning more cool stuff this summer and fall. I’ve become slightly obsessed with database design since taking my database driven website class, and learning the basics of SQL. Yay organization. 🙂

Good Weekend, Time to Sleep April 4, 2013

Had a great weekend with my friends at MARCon this past weekend. We hosted our usual excellent party, with red and blue of tastiness. The music was great and the dancefloor stayed full all night. Thanks to all who made the party possible and kept it running smoothly.

Easter, I spent exhausted, and bored. I worked my first Sunday in over three years, and the place was dead, due to the rest of the mall being closed. But we carried on, and when I got home, it wasn’t too late to call my parents and wish them a Happy Easter, and Mom a Happy Birthday. And, thanks to some friends, I had a brand new (to me) bed to sleep in that night, too.

I am doing a bit more work on that “take care of me” thing, and bought a bunch of veggies this week. Even made and ate the Kale with Peanut Sauce (almond, really). And I have stuff for stir fry and stew. Making veggies and rice as I type, today.

This weekend will be for relaxing. As fleet heads to Kentucky for ConGlomeration, I am staying behind to puppy-sit. Such a cute, cuddly puppy, who could resist? Hoping to also get some writing done, but may just cuddle and sleep.

Went up to Monroe this past weekend to launch the sixth chapter of Fleet. It was a great party, even if the weather decided to be quite cold. Had a good time hanging out with old friends and making new ones. The pub we all went to dinner at was excellent and kept the food and drinks flowing. Though, next time, I think we might want to reserve the upstairs dining room.

Also got to drop by and see Eeks in Ypsi. She fed me lots of tea and tasty healthy food. We had roasted broccoli, peanut sauce covered kale, turmeric milk, and pizza with cauliflower and sweet potato toppings, among other things. As always, a great culinary adventure. She also let me watch Les Miserables while she finished her work for Monday. It was good, but it was not what I expected, so I need to see it again with revised expectations.

This weekend is MARcon downtown, so we’re throwing a fleet party tomorrow night. It will be a great time, and next year, we get to get off Easter weekend, as the con goes back to Mother’s Day weekend. Then, of course, is Easter Sunday. I was considering spending time with family, but then my boss asked/begged me to take a shift, so I’ll be working the evening at the store.

Hope everyone has a great Easter weekend! And Mom, Happy early Birthday!
