Quinoa is an interesting texture. The mixture I got the other day was Quinoa and brown rice with olive oil and spices. The spices didn’t thrill me, but today I added a bit of mustard and it was quite tasty. I’ll have to figure out a better spice mix.

I’ve switched from a short Yoga/Tai Chi exercise regiment to 20-30 minutes of yoga and strength training and balance games on the Wii Fit. Figure that’ll do more good than what I was doing, docs keep telling me I need to build muscle to protect my joints. Also, it’s more fun. I do need something solid to go under the board though, the carpet confuses it. Either that or I really did lose 12 pounds in one day… but the bathroom scale disagrees to the tune of 20 pounds, so.

Once again on the quest for healthy, but tasty foods. I get so bored with all the normal stuff. And my teensy kitchen does not help with the desire to cook new and complicated things. Even new and simple sometimes. ::dreams of a house someday with big kitchen and counter space::

Financial year is nearly over at work, hurray for the stress of trying to do last minute catch up. We are going to meet several of our goals, but others… not so much. It’s just never enough. Ah retail.

Going to get myself a nook simple touch soon (yay credit card points). Make reading the computer books I got easier. The app just doesn’t fit well to my netbook screen. Then again, not much does. I like the little guy, is good for most of my computer work, but web design just needs bigger screens. IMHO

Still no winter. There Was snow one day, but it melted the next and didn’t really affect much. It’s in the mid forties this week, and though the forecast said rain, it’s bright and sunny out right now. I don’t mind not having bad driving conditions, but I like having some nice snowy days.

Mirena this week. One defective device, and five attempts and I’m all set. They tell me that in three months I’ll be grateful. That’s the plan body, stick to it.

Finished watching Numb3rs. Good show. Got some reading in, almost done with The Ghost King. Started playing the free starter edition of WoW. It’s really restricted, but I get to see what happened to the world since Cataclysm hit. At least the lower level parts of the world.

Starting to plan our summer trips. And by starting, I mean acknowledging where and when we want to go. 😉  I also sent in for a new passport yesterday. No idea when I’ll get to use it, but better now than when already planning a trip and needing it in a hurry.

Rich just got his tablet. I’m enjoying the netbook, using it next to the desktop a lot these days and wishing I had a multiple screen setup. Some day, when we have a house and more space. Ah, dreams. 🙂

8 Days til Christmas December 17, 2010

Eight shopping days until Christmas. All the presents for other people bought and waiting for wrapping. I am certain I don’t have enough paper, but I will deal with that when I run out. Still need to sort out family gatherings between work schedules. Shooting for a Saturday afternoon sometime soon. So far, I have gotten myself shoe polish, a 2011 Moleskine planner, a video cable for my Netbook, and hosiery. The kids, of course, have far more interesting stuff in their bags. And the wheelbarrow arrived today.

I’m working all the holidays we’re open – Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Yay, overtime… though I’d gladly trade it for some sleep on the 1st of 2011. We’re open normal hours that day for some reason this year. Seems an odd decision, I wonder who made it.

Working a lot more at the store has filled up my days and left me little time and energy for my other career pursuits lately. I need to get those moving again so I don’t drop them completely. Five 7am shifts in a row leaves me awfully tired, though, and I still have lots of other things to attend to. Which are far more interesting than being rejected over and over, but that’s the life of a writer.

Health is doing well. Feeling mostly pain free, with only a little swelling most days. Have discovered Prego 100% Natural isn’t all that terrible for me. Yes there’s sugar, but nothing else I’m not supposed to have. Had some lovely spelt noodles today, too. Microwaves do odd things to sweet potato though, I don’t think I’m ever going to do that again. As always, need more exercise and more restful sleep, but all in all, things are going well.

Not much to report this week. Still applying to jobs at Elance, no bites yet, but several still under consideration. I’ve been watching the Harry Potter movies this week in preparation for the release of the first half of the seventh this weekend. Makes me want to sit down and read the whole series again. I’ve got a whole stack of books I haven’t even read the first way through, yet, too. The purported end of the Deverry series – final four books, all in hard cover. The last real Robert Jordan, and then Sanderson’s two. I’m even behind on Salvatore, and haven’t finished Eddings’ Redemption of Athalus, though I’m getting close on that one.

Thanksgiving with friends next week. Then the holidays begin. Ah, retail at holiday. At least we stay busy. The nookColor demos came in this week. Lots of fun to play with. Browser works really well and the picture quality is excellent. There are now 43 magazines available, too. Netbook still needs a new video cable, probably going to have to ebay it. Troublesome little thing, but oh so handy when it’s working.

Much to do, never enough time, enjoy what I have and work towards more.

Home from the hospital nearly a week now. We’re working things out and still waiting. Waiting on tax refund, waiting on the doctor’s appointment tomorrow, waiting to see what happens next. I haven’t been writing stories yet this year. I haven’t been submitting, either. I was waiting for the markets to open back up, and then I got busy and then Rich ended up in the hospital. I bought a netbook and broke it a week later. I’ve bought a new screen to try and fix it. Life is running along at its usual crazy pace and I haven’t taken back control of the reins, yet. It’s time to get back in the driver’s seat and make my life what I want it to be.
