Week five of classes, the last week of the Tools for Success class, and the big final project is a Wordle and a video. I had a lot of trouble with lighting and sound yesterday, today I must either edit what I made, or do it all over again. Yay, fun. The group project is going well, midpoint grading happens after this weekend. So, we’ll see how the Professor thinks it’s going then. I start my Foundations class next week, too. On more month of two classes, and then November will just be down to one class to finish the semester. So far, so good.

Work is heading full steam ahead. Lots of new toys and games for the holidays. A nook price drop, for at least this week, they won’t tell us if it is permanent, they never do. Some nebulous “new thing” on the horizon, as always, for the holiday season. All the DVDs I want to own have come out this month – Dr Who 7, Ironman 3, and Star Trek Into Darkness. But I’m being good and not spending money on expensive things. Still spending most of my time in Music, so if you’re bored during the morning/early afternoon, come say hi. (And, yes, we’re still hiring, especially if you like coffee and want to work in the cafe.)

Health is pretty good. Stupid wrist is still stupid. And I keep getting headaches when I walk out the door, not sure what’s up with that, maybe I’m just not paying as much attention when I’m in the apartment and the sunlight outside reminds me. Perhaps I should get to the Chiro for my neck.

Anyway, video editing to do. See you next week.

4th of July went nicely. Had some good cookouts with friends and family, despite the rain and grey skies. Had a good weekend with the pet-sitting. And a nice visit with my brother’s family. We Skyped with my parents, to wish Dad a Happy Birthday. Mostly, the kids made faces at the screen while we tried to talk around them. 😉

Packing is going along slowly, but surely as I sort everything out. I almost have the AT&T Uverse situation sorted out, we’ll see if my modem shows up or not, then I have to sort out installation. Apparently, they think they Do have to come and do some wiring, but they’re only available to do so during the hours that I work. Yay, fun. So, I might be sans internet for a few days, depending on work schedules.

Changes continue apace at work, as we try to sort things out back to workable. With so many people coming and going, things have gotten a little out of hand. But we’re bringing it back in. On a similar note if anyone has aspirations of working at B&N, let me know, we’ve got a good handful of openings, including a few lead-type positions. Nook HD/+ prices are staying low, so if you want a cheap tablet, with access to Google Play, come on out for that, too. They’re really nice little(and not so little) devices.

Another weekend with friends ahead, and then a weekend of moving, and a week of birthday celebrations. July is a busy, busy month.

Welcome Summer June 27, 2013

Two parties this past weekend to welcome summer. The picnic on the Sunday was full of kids with water-guns, and tasty smoked meats. I had a great weekend of hanging out with friends and relaxing. Even got to play with a old portable typewriter that a friend had found at a yard sale. He needs to take me to these yard sales some time, he always finds the best stuff.

Work goes on. Our new hires have completed the first round of training and are being thrown into the mix/tossed to the wolves. Summer has a lot of people moving on or going on vacation, so we’re doing our best to keep up. The computers haven’t been cooperating this week, but we’re managing.

Apparently, we’ve given up on the tablet business, though. Going to stop making the HDs and let someone else do it instead. It appears that we will still carry and support whatever they come up with, but we won’t be financially responsible for them. Simple Touches are sticking around, though, and the Glowlight. In the meantime, our HDs are ridiculously cheap.

Another relaxing weekend ahead for me. Going to go visit my brother’s family on Sunday, so that should be fun. Should start packing soon, signing my new lease in three weeks.

Sorry about not posting last week, things were just so busy and exhausting. Rich got laid off and is back in the job search. I do believe he has an interview this afternoon, and has applied for many things. Perhaps this will lead him into new and better things.

On my side of things, this is my down week at work, only 24 hours, before I gear back up for long weeks through the holiday season. Our new hires are all doing fairly well, and we’re getting ready for the batch of seasonal hires to come in, too. Apparently, B&N is getting rid of part timers’ benefits entirely, fully effective end of next year for those who still had them the beginning of this year.

On a happier note, we’ve once again got new devices this holiday season. The nook HD and HD+. The latter being a 9″ screen as opposed to our usual 7″ screens. With user profiles, scrapbooking, and nook Video coming soon, it should be a pretty cool holiday season for nook shoppers.  I was happy to see that they finally created free library apps for the Color and Tablet devices, so that folk could download library books straight to the nook, without having to go through the computer. Mom says she got it to work no problems. 🙂

Several parties and fun times with friends lately. Uncle David and many friends had birthdays this week. So Happy Birthday, all around!  Coming up: a wedding, so many Halloween parties that I’ve lost count, and then the rest of the holiday season. Wohoo!

Cold seems to have finished up, to be followed simply by allergy trouble. Yay, dust! And now my tummy is cranky, with food. Not that I’m not eating, just that it doesn’t seem to like anything I eat. Trying rice today, that’s completely neutral, right? We’ll see.

Getting on towards summer now. Temps in the 80s this week. Maybe warm weather will get me eating healthier. Without so much a desire for hot food. Just have to get past the stress eating habit as well. Mom’s retiring this summer, so I’m also having fantasies of homemade tomato paste this fall. 😉  There are so many farmers markets down here, plenty of tomatoes… will have to convince my brother to let them use his kitchen though, mine’s no good for that. Would also have to convince them to come down to visit in October, according to Google, that is the local picking month.

So much to plan for this summer, and we haven’t even begun. Need WorldCon roommates. Need Boise flight tickets. Need a Maine trip plan. And that’s just the big stuff. Really want to get to Cedar Point this year. Birthday plans. Anniversary plans. I don’t even know what I’m doing for Memorial Day weekend. <pipedream>  Anyone want to send me to England in June? ::laughs:: </pipedream>

We are in a new financial year at work, so hours are picking back up a little. Microsoft invested in our nook business, so that should be interesting. I’m still waiting for Love Sucks by Sage Collins to be available through the nook store. Cuz I’m stubborn like that.  Had a great time at the Chocolate Cafe with her, Shayera and their writing friends. Exquisite Corpse made for some very entertaining stories. A few even made sense.

MarCon was a good time. Not the crazy huge, multi-room party we usually throw, but still, we had a good time. I did have to go straight to work after, but I bribed my way home halfway through my shift by getting a nook Simple Touch with my gift card. Then slept for 8 hours. Easter did not go as planned, what with more sleep being necessary, but we had a decent day of it anyway.

ConGlomeration this weekend in Louisville. That should be even more fun. The whole weekend with friends in a whole new venue.

A sad day today, as we remember and miss our friend.

We have reset for the holidays at the store. The only changes from now until end of year will be new releases, and taking down Thanksgiving books at the end of November. Christmas music will probably start about that time, as well. Though Artist of the Month is Transiberian Orchestra already. They make me happy. We are hiring seasonal folk this year, after the fail of not having done last year. And I’m getting decent hours these days (for being part time). A new nook was announced, this one a tablet, and the prices on the rest dropped. So, lots of good electronic sales for the holiday season. I’m not excited for the crowds to come, but I think it should be a really good season for the store.

I got my resume updated and online this week. And I am about halfway through my WordPress book. So those are both moving forward again.

I got new tires today. My car is just over 106,000 miles now, and the edges had worn down completely. Cooper brand tires because they were out of the Goodyear. So instead of an $80 rebate, I got tires that were over $80 cheaper to begin with. Full replacement warranty, as well.  Any problems at all equals a free new tire.

Weather’s turning colder, leaves are bright colors or completely gone. No snow, but it’s my big brother’s birthday today. Happy Birthday, Pete. Hope you have a great day with wife and kids.

As ready as the store is for the holidays, we haven’t even begun to sort out our plans. Though I think we’ll be watching Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on Christmas. Plenty of friends and some family around, I’m sure we’ll have another wonderfully busy holiday season.

I missed last week because of the Con Crud.  The con itself was an amazingly good time. Friends and fun and food. We all hung out and relaxed and partied. But the following week, we ALL got sick. And I do mean all. I don’t know who brought the flu to the con, but pretty much everyone I know that attended, with a couple rare exceptions, ended up sick during the following week.

I had a fever ranging up to 102.8, headache, nasty cough, runny nose and all. I have gotten rid of most of that, except the cough. It is persisting, so I went to the doctor today to get antibiotics to kick it the rest of the way out. Normally I wouldn’t but normally, I’d also let it hang around for a month. Thought I’d like to get rid of it faster this time.

Read a couple books while I was sick. Now on the third book of the Ultimate Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy. It might have amused me a little too much to begin reading it on a nook, but I am a geek. Watched the BBC miniseries of it last week, as well. Very amusing.

Work is odd. Must get back in gear on Elance again. Healthy first, then back to the grindstone. To live the life I want, effort must be made.

The Eve of Christmas Eve December 23, 2010

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Only one shopping day left. I’ll be at the store bright and early to welcome all the last minute shoppers in with Nook in hand. It hasn’t been bad this year. We’ve been busy and sales are still climbing, but it has not been unmanageable. The lines are long, but not nearly as long as I’ve seen them. People are grumpy, but I only work mornings, and the Grinches apparently come out at night.

I’ve gotten a few books from friends, clothes by proxy from my parents, and a few odds and ends that I need for the coming year. I’ll be doing some post-Christmas shopping on Amazon as well, thank you Gale and Larry. My Aunt Mary and Uncle David adopted a wolf in mine and Rich’s name, so that’s a pretty cool gift as well. And Dr. Who’s most recent season is sitting on the mantle with our yearly calendars, just waiting to be opened.

Saturday, I’m going to be attempting my first ever lasagna. Lots of cheese, but no ricotta. We’ll see how that goes. We’re also going to be seeing True Grit, to share the holiday tradition of dinner and a movie with his parents. Have to work phone calls to family around that, but it should work out alright. Going to see my brother and the kids next weekend, Christmas on New Year’s Day. So that will be fun as well.

It’s a good, slightly snowy Christmas, here in central Ohio. Peace and love to all.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Tomorrow is Guy Fawkes Night. We shall celebrate with V for Vendetta tonight since we’ll be busy tomorrow. Elections were earlier this week, it seems an appropriate time for such a holiday.

St. Ann‘s is still sending us nasty-grams about our bills, even though we keep calling them. Rich will be trying again tomorrow. They’re the last hold out on getting our payments fixed. They aren’t happy with the smaller payments we’ve sent them, but they haven’t been returning our calls in a timely manner, either. Might have to go hunt down their office up the road in person.

Signed a new consulting contract with Bookup. In negotiations with Flowered Intentions. Still seeking my first editing job on Elance. Lots of hours from the B&N this week and next. They tried to give me an extra one today, but I didn’t notice early enough to take a lunch break, so I had to leave at the previously scheduled time or not get paid for half an hour of work. Logging in and out for the Nook counter is really inefficient use of payroll. But the new NookColor looks pretty sweet. Looking forward to a demo device.

November and cold weather is here. Need to sew new buttons on my coat and maybe get a few warmer skirts.
