All my Penguin Minions

I got the critter bites recipe in WoW today, and made an entire iceberg of penguins into my  minions for three minutes. It was fun. 🙂

I sent out two emails yesterday about jobs. One editing, one for data entryish. We’ll see what comes back from those. The store is doing alright by me for hours most weeks. Though sometimes in big chunks, so fewer days, which can be fun, or odd, or boring, depending. 😉

I’m looking for parks to go play in on Mondays, have had a few nearby suggested. So, that should be fun. Take some time to get away from the technology and just relax. Maybe get in some stargazing. I haven’t pulled my telescope out in over a decade.

Lots of events coming up this summer. Family trips, conventions, birthdays, anniversaries, picnics. I’m looking forward to having a great summer.

This weekend, we’re going to see Prometheus, in Imax 3D. Not a fan of the latter myself, but the technology keeps improving, so hopefully it’ll just be awesome and not headache inducing.

Reading Road to the Patriarch still. I love the characters, but I’m not sure I like how the story is playing out. We’ll see where it goes from here. May have to move on to Catching Fire next. Not sure. So much to read.

Been eating better, too, this week. Lots of salad and only a little pizza. 😉

Busy Halloween November 3, 2011

I completely forgot to post last week with all the busy, and this week is just about as crazy. Halloween parties, a wedding, and my last two weeks working at the school. Tomorrow is my last day of that, in fact. It’s been a good run, but they have no more money to pay me with, so that’s that. Gotten a few things taken care of, have a few more to do yet. Tires are next up, been too busy to get to the shop thus far. One medical bill paid off. Another sent to collections because they stopped sending us bills, so I had nowhere to send payments. Sorting that one out via email as I type… hopefully.  I don’t pay collections, I pay the people we owe.

No school after this week means I’ll be getting back on my improvement plans. Both job and web design. Working six days a week meant I had no energy left over for those things. We just transferred all our domains from Rich’s job at eCommerce over to our HostGator account, so soon, everything will be in one place.

Health seems pretty stable, no noticeable improvement, or deterioration.   Still not eating my best. Both stress and stress eating are no good for my joints. But I’m trying to be more conscious again. Still buying appropriate groceries and eating (mostly) appropriate lunches (I did have Cheddar Bay Biscuits today). It’s sweets and dinners I don’t cook that are my weakness and downfall. It just too cold out to want salad all the time. ::excuses, excuses, excuses:: But I’m doing alright.

The Holidays are heading our way, are you ready?

I’m getting more used to working two jobs again, but it’s still quite tiring, what with everything else still going full steam. But the files are now all in order, though 21 of the boxes don’t have homes yet. And that number is just Not going to work out well.  I have about one box of unfiled papers still needing put in the right folders. And then that project is done. They’ve asked me to stay four more weeks, with the suggestion that the library could use my help ( right now it’s a bunch of boxes of books and some empty fixtures). So we’ll see how that goes.

It’s October, the holiday season is upon us. I am once again pondering the effort and expense of a Halloween costume. I have hardly bothered since becoming an adult. (Yeah, laugh all you want 😉 ) Don’t know that it’s going to change this year either. The holiday displays are going up in the store and next month, holiday hours start piling up. I don’t know what this IS going to mean for my schedule, but it Could be good things. It will mean the insanity of another retail Christmas. The school doesn’t seem interested in hiring me permanently, so no escape valve, yet.

Health is doing alright. It’d be doing better if I was more conscious of taking care of myself. I’m trying to be, but everything is so busy. Got fresh fruits and veggies yesterday. Eating more salad as I rush between jobs. My jobs are very physical, but actual exercise would be good for me. Remembering to take the meds I asked for every day would probably be good for me, too. 😉 All in all, though, I’m doing well.

Just got my copy of The Legacy of Heroes this week. Is pretty. Our BSG-based game with it is going along well. We are actually able to kill some of the suits now. (Toaster being anachronistic in a fantasy world, but suits of armor seems a fitting alternative.) And we’ve gotten our call to the oracle, so that’s up soon. Somehow my monk is still alive. And soon, she might even be effective, thanks to our GM’s gift. Fun stuff.

Tomorrow is Halloween and I think I will spend most of it sleeping. It’s been a long week of work and parties, and I’ve got one last one tonight. Spent a lot of the week helping gather materials, set up, and tear down. Sorry about missing Thursday, I was driving to and from Dayton in the morning, getting ready for the evening all afternoon, and then, well, the party that night was epic. Somewhere around 1500 people at the event. Last night was really low key in comparison. I’m hoping that tonight is somewhere in the middle.

On a work front, Rich’s schedule is shifting to allow him Friday and Saturday off, but staying on the same shift. That’ll be cool, for him to have a weekend when everyone else does. I haven’t heard back from either of the jobs I sent proposals to, but I’ll be finding some more to submit to tomorrow. With the arrival of holiday payroll, I have more hours at the store this week. Mike and I are getting things organized for my work at Bookup. I’m looking to take on a list of very specific projects and get more organized to see if we can get even better results.

Health-wise I’m doing fairly well. Staying up for 46 hours actually had me moving with ease and mostly painless. It’s those 8 hours of lying still to sleep that make me the most stiff. Haven’t figured out a solution to that yet. Any suggestions? Had a full zag day on Thursday – nutty pancakes and bacon for lunch, Hound Dogs pizza for dinner and chocolate pancakes, bacon and an English muffin for breakfast. Delicious. But salads are good for me, and back on track I go. I need to do some recipe research and reread the pH Miracle again, at least the wife’s parts on cooking and the pantry.

So much to do, and running low on time.

Tossed out a flash fiction story to an anthology, got back an acceptance today. It’s been a very long time since I’ve gotten one of those. Not a big market or any pay, but it is a fun little vampire anthology, one story for each day of the year.

Still waiting to hear back on potential car trade-in arrangements. No word from the bank. Nissan offered a car that was more than we wanted. Still looking for something cheaper. Still listed on Craigslist, though I really don’t think that’s going to go anywhere at this point. We’ll figure it out though. Hopefully without too many more random letters from banks telling us they aren’t approving a loan we didn’t know we’d applied for.

Elbow hurts today, but shoulders and such are all feeling pretty good. Trying to get back to mostly raw again, but I like warm food and it’s heading into fall again. Eating as much salad as I can manage, though. And wheatgrass juice a few times a week. The change in weather has my head and lungs all confused this week, too.

Really looking forward to the next two weekends with friends. Life is good.

After an exciting birthday week last week, not much to post about this week. Went to Cedar Point on Monday as a late birthday gift and post-bar celebration. It was a very busy Monday, even the 9am hour was busy, though even more so due to only one ride being open and it breaking at about 930. But we had a blast. It was warm and sunny, but Aquafina bottles were plentiful. As was salad for lunch and dinner. There was a bit of chocolate covered frozen banana and a bit too much cotton candy, but overall, I stayed fairly healthy.

Got to ride all the most of the coasters, with some decent, but not overwhelming waits for most. Maverick, Mean Streak, Mine Ride, Millennium, Magnum, Gemini, Disaster Transport, Corkscrew, Raptor, Wicked Twister, Top Thrill Dragster. Not many of the auxiliary rides this trip. We did Bumper Cars, Airhawk and Max Air. Rachel took the bullet and rode the Witch’s Wheel. Mostly we were running between coasters. We did take a break out to watch Everybody Loves Snoopy in the air conditioned skating rink theatre.

It was a good, exhausting day. With fireworks to keep us entertained in our final line.

Life itself marches on. Bills come in. Money goes out. Plans get made. And everything will work out fine. 🙂

I spent this past weekend, Thursday through Monday, downtown at MarCon – Multiple Alternative Realities Convention. I had a great time hanging out with friends and seeing folks from out of town. Tom Smith’s concert was fun as always. He promised that if he puts out a DVD, his ASL interpreter will most certainly be featured. She is amazing and hilarious. The Zombie Walk was huge this year, but a few bad eggs ruined it for future walks – defacing property with fake blood. The con did well this year – attendance was up and the biggest problem of the weekend was caused by non-con people. It looks like the con will be moving weekends after next year, we will have to see how that rolls out. I ate a lot of dead cow this weekend, hamburgers and even a wonderful flat iron teriyaki steak, as well as other unhealthy odds and ends. I did have some really good grilled asparagus with that steak, too, and bits of salad with my sandwiches. It wasn’t a completely unhealthy weekend, just mostly.

Back on the wagon again and still doing quite well. I’m a little stiff today, but nothing serious. Had more grilled asparagus last night, too. Yum! Cart full of veggies bought today. 🙂 Picnics the next couple Sundays. Summer is arriving with a roar – tornado warning yesterday. A beautiful storm. Rich has surgery on Tuesday and then recovery, we still don’t know how long that’s going to take but they tell us it will be faster than the last time.

All is well, life is good. 🙂

My Health – I missed my doctor’s appointment this week. Thought I’d set a reminder, but I must have put it on my old phone. I didn’t realize until dinner the next evening. I called today and they graciously waived the missed appointment fee. I haven’t taken any meds in… I’m not sure, two months, maybe?  I haven’t done my blood work either. Once we get our current medical bills under control, I’ll get that done and probably talk to her, but that’s on hold for now. My joints are doing really well these days, elbow’s still a little swollen, but it’s not painful or problematic. As far as the diet, I stay fairly well on course, eating lots of salads and veggies and spelt products. I do eat desserts on a fairly regular basis, a cookie here, a bit of chocolate cake there. With MarCon coming up at the end of the month I’ve been pretty good, saving up my cheating this month for that, though I’ll still try to have some salad when it’s available.

MarCon – Multiple Alternative Realities Convention – is in two weeks. It’s a horror theme this year, not my favorite, but it should still be a fun time. The committee is working to pull together the programming, guests and gaming. I’m looking forward to seeing the costumes, art show and dealers room. Not that I have money to spend there, but I do enjoy ogling the pretties.

Cedar Point – In celebration of Bookup returning to non-copy protected, registration-only software, and the headaches that will relieve, Mike and I are taking Monday off to go to Cedar Point.

Bookup – The Express update without copy protection (returning to the registration system he used to use) was released last week, the trial version yesterday and hopefully the Professional version tomorrow. We have two very skilled gentlemen working on our Forum integration and are debating two help desk solutions. One works as is, though I’m not sold on how it works, the other has integration issues I would love to get solved. The membership site itself is up and ready, once we get the forum and help desk finished, we will just have to convince 44K people to create passwords and start using it. I’ve been reading a lot about generating free internet traffic, and am preparing to put some of that to work for Bookup. Everything is coming together.

November began with my first of two Zag days. Yes, that’s two zag days in two weeks, but it was the second of five Fleet parties in a row(anf I’m missing the next three). So it began with an Early breakfast the day of the party, which included a hamburger and a piece of carmel apple pie. Lunch was at a local Vegan restaurant and was Divine. All the food was completely vegan. I had bread, salad, spaghetti salad, a potato dish I did not understand, butternut squash pancakes and an apple pastry dessert with apple and butternut squash sorbets, along with fresh squeezed apple juice infused with lavender to drink. Dinner was an odd assortment of foods created by various members of fleet including, but not limited to: sweet bacon crackers, pork and beans, deviled eggs, a cream puff, chocolate chip and bacon cookies, brownies and garlic bread. I drank mostly coke & stuff throughout the night to end my zag.

As for the rest of the week, things went fairly typically. I’m back down to one Enbrel shot every two weeks, for a couple reasons, but most notably, I’m feeling pretty good. My elbow is still it’s usual ornery self, but nothing seems to change that. I see my Doctor today, so we’ll have some things to talk about. Including some three months without health insurance as Rich has accepted a new job doing tech support.

Had half a zag day for the Halloween party this past weekend in Cleveland. Lots of No Bake cookies, a few drinks, some bread and then Bacon Waffles and Bacon for breakfast. Mmmm bacon!  I’m feeling better about the whole thing. I’m sticking with it for the most part, but I’m not denying myself quite so much, or guilting myself for slips. I want to be as healthy as I can, but I also want to live my life happily. A little bread with my salad is okay, even if it’s not yeast-free or spelt. Some hot cider is not great for me, but it makes my throat feel so much better. Fruit and fresh juice is far healthier than chocolate or other candy or soda. I like vegetables and my tummy likes almond butter far better than peanuts. Need to work on some soup recipes(haven’t I said this before?) with the cold weather coming on. All in all, I’m feeling better about things.
