Eclipse on Monday was awesome. We had about 600 people through our branch of the library. I left before the show got started, and the clouds came in. I ended up not getting glasses, so I watched it on Nasa’s website and various cameras. Was fun to see the different views.

Work was quiet after that, with all the kids going back to school. One more week alone at Sprawl. Looking towards my next job. Not a lot of openings right now, but I’ve put out one application, and I’m still looking.

Renewed my lease this week as well, looking forward to getting some car repairs in September when I don’t have to pay rent (because I already did when I moved in). Might even get a new kitchen sink cabinet and a peephole in my front door. We shall see what the maintenance folks say.

Finished Mogworld (Yahtzee Croshaw), now I’ve got lots of books to read, of course. The Princess Diarist (Carrie Fisher), The Republic of Thieves (Scott Lynch), and The Witch’s Vacuum Cleaner and Other Stories (Terry Pratchett) from the library. NPCs (Drew Hayes) and The Mists of Avalon (Marion Zimmer Bradley) from Audible.

Spent the weekend with my family. Saturday was the girls’ birthday party. We had make-your-own soft tacos for lunch, and cake and ice cream for dessert. The cake had Ariel on it, both the girls’ names and candles for each of them to blow out. They got lots of toys and books, and had a great time putting things together and trying them out. Adorable as always, we had a great afternoon with my brother’s family, my parents, Jen’s parents, and my aunt and uncle.

Sunday, my parents and aunt and uncle (and dogs) came down for a picnic in a “nearby” park. The map made it look much closer than it really was, but we found it eventually. The pups had a nice run with the big dogs in the huge dog park. Then we went to a picnic area for lunch of salads and sandwiches. A short walk around a nearby pond finished out our afternoon in the sun.

Mom and I did some grocery shopping, and then went to see Star Trek Into Darkness at the dollar theater. Monday, we did some household and shoe shopping, then took Dad to Red Lobster. He and I spent the afternoon telling stories on the couch while Mom napped. Then one final meal before they headed back to the hotel.

It was a good visit.

Now, I’m eager for school to start on Monday. My professors have started posting welcome messages, but they are holding off on the syllabus posting until Monday. I did finally get a name for my tools for success class, a PhD candidate at KSU. Just a few more days to go! 🙂

Busy Halloween November 3, 2011

I completely forgot to post last week with all the busy, and this week is just about as crazy. Halloween parties, a wedding, and my last two weeks working at the school. Tomorrow is my last day of that, in fact. It’s been a good run, but they have no more money to pay me with, so that’s that. Gotten a few things taken care of, have a few more to do yet. Tires are next up, been too busy to get to the shop thus far. One medical bill paid off. Another sent to collections because they stopped sending us bills, so I had nowhere to send payments. Sorting that one out via email as I type… hopefully.  I don’t pay collections, I pay the people we owe.

No school after this week means I’ll be getting back on my improvement plans. Both job and web design. Working six days a week meant I had no energy left over for those things. We just transferred all our domains from Rich’s job at eCommerce over to our HostGator account, so soon, everything will be in one place.

Health seems pretty stable, no noticeable improvement, or deterioration.   Still not eating my best. Both stress and stress eating are no good for my joints. But I’m trying to be more conscious again. Still buying appropriate groceries and eating (mostly) appropriate lunches (I did have Cheddar Bay Biscuits today). It’s sweets and dinners I don’t cook that are my weakness and downfall. It just too cold out to want salad all the time. ::excuses, excuses, excuses:: But I’m doing alright.

The Holidays are heading our way, are you ready?

Not much to report this week. I did get to start on the “library” at the school. Is it a library if there are no bookcases? We’ll see. I organized books into categories and started contact-papering, lending carding and cataloging books this week. There’s a lot to do, I feel like I need a bit of Order of Importance to guide me next week. But well, they don’t really know what to do either.

Went to the doc. We both agreed I should take care of myself more consciously. So there’s that. Feeling pretty good this week, so that’s a start. Fought off the throat ick that everyone around me has. Even if it did take wheatgrass juice to do it. I hear my Dad’s doing well with his stuff, so that’s great. 🙂 Really have to get to the Chiro and give them checks. Our insurance thinks it’s fun to send us the money instead of them.

Money wise, things are looking up. Should be able to start winnowing down the medical bills this month. Get another one gone by end of next month, I think. One of them hasn’t sent us a bill in a while, but when I called them, they said they would be soon. We’ll see. Still gonna take a while, but we’ll be making deeper cuts into it starting this month.

Halloween is fast approaching, still no costume(s). Ah well. 😉

I’m getting more used to working two jobs again, but it’s still quite tiring, what with everything else still going full steam. But the files are now all in order, though 21 of the boxes don’t have homes yet. And that number is just Not going to work out well.  I have about one box of unfiled papers still needing put in the right folders. And then that project is done. They’ve asked me to stay four more weeks, with the suggestion that the library could use my help ( right now it’s a bunch of boxes of books and some empty fixtures). So we’ll see how that goes.

It’s October, the holiday season is upon us. I am once again pondering the effort and expense of a Halloween costume. I have hardly bothered since becoming an adult. (Yeah, laugh all you want 😉 ) Don’t know that it’s going to change this year either. The holiday displays are going up in the store and next month, holiday hours start piling up. I don’t know what this IS going to mean for my schedule, but it Could be good things. It will mean the insanity of another retail Christmas. The school doesn’t seem interested in hiring me permanently, so no escape valve, yet.

Health is doing alright. It’d be doing better if I was more conscious of taking care of myself. I’m trying to be, but everything is so busy. Got fresh fruits and veggies yesterday. Eating more salad as I rush between jobs. My jobs are very physical, but actual exercise would be good for me. Remembering to take the meds I asked for every day would probably be good for me, too. 😉 All in all, though, I’m doing well.

Just got my copy of The Legacy of Heroes this week. Is pretty. Our BSG-based game with it is going along well. We are actually able to kill some of the suits now. (Toaster being anachronistic in a fantasy world, but suits of armor seems a fitting alternative.) And we’ve gotten our call to the oracle, so that’s up soon. Somehow my monk is still alive. And soon, she might even be effective, thanks to our GM’s gift. Fun stuff.

Working Full Time… Sorta September 15, 2011

So, last Friday I was asked to go in for an interview on Monday to help sort out the records at the school I keep talking about. They hired me on the spot and asked me to work for four weeks at slightly better pay than B&N. So, I said sure. They asked for 20 hours a week for at least the first two weeks, and then maybe 15 after that. Thus far, I have filled all the records requests that had backed up for both the old high school records and the current grade school records. I created a handful of new files out of old files and sent out records requests for them, and I have made two alphabetized stacks of files from a box labeled “Random.” And believe you me, it lived up to its name. Hurray for productivity and learning to use a fax machine.Next two projects: getting a state and federal background check and organizing 8 sets of alphabetized files into one continuous set of files. I think I’m also supposed to make copies of last year’s records for the files, but I’m not sure if the office manager is going to do that before I’m there tomorrow.

But this also means I’m working 32-40 hours a week now (depending on B&N), and generally 6 out of 7 days a week. So,I’m exhausted. I know most people do this all the time, but I’m not used to it anymore. Also, it is significantly delaying my web design course project, as I don’t have afternoons to work on it.  I do still have Monster sending me job listings, but I have the search on hold for the moment, too, until I see how this pans out.

Health-wise, still on a stable plateau. My hands/wrists got eaten by something at the school yesterday, but that’s just mild itchy annoyance. I need to get more glucosamine, but I find working full time cuts into errand time quite a bit. Maybe this weekend.
