June is done, in about twenty minutes. I’ve got a Ralphie for the weekend, and lots of fun with friends ahead. Including celebrating friends getting a brand new home. I’m looking forward to seeing it this weekend.

This week has been fairly quiet. The supervisors of the groups at the library are getting more organized. I’ve finished the pallet at Sprawl, and cataloged a tote of random paperbacks today. We’ve had a lot of rain, but the humidity is still pretty high.

Fourth of July coming up, everyone be safe, and be kind.

Finished Believe Me by Eddie Izzard, great book. Have started Wizard: The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla, and so far, not impressed with the author or narrator. So, I’ve downloaded a new Jim Butcher fantasy in case I give up on Tesla.

The Good and the Bad June 24, 2017

It was an odd week for me. My schedule was all twisted up because I was helping out at the Opening of our newest library branch – Northside – on Thursday. That was a great event. There were over 400 people there, and everyone was excited by the new space. It is a gorgeous redesign, and they got more books, more computers, and more space. They even got a little cafe.

The bad was internet down at Sprawl most of the week, so I didn’t get a lot of hours in there. This also meant I didn’t get into a new book, because the day I did go in, I hadn’t downloaded the new book, and couldn’t do so. I’ve also been getting more stiff and achy lately. Which is super annoying, and makes me less motivated to do things, even though that’s exactly what I need to do.

On the upside, it is truly summer now, so all the bright shiny days should help me get more motivated. I’ve decided on Eddie Izzard’s autobiography next, to cheer the spirit and have some laughs.

I missed last week completely, and yesterday, too. Thanks, Mom, for reminding me. Not a whole lot going on, yet.  This month is when everything happens.

The library’s going well. We’re gearing up for Summer Reading Club. I’ve started cataloging the archival materials. At the warehouse, we’re over 17K books, plus a few thousand magazines.

I’ve finished Good Omens, and I’m most of the way through The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. Next up is probably Stardust. We started watching American Gods and The Handmaid’s Tale this week, as well.

It’s my last week at Whitehall, this weekend I start at the Martin Luther King branch. Looking forward to the event this weekend, and then starting my first shift on Sunday. I get to spend the week at Main training, too, that’ll be interesting. 🙂

Tired today, so I stayed home in the afternoon. That means I have to spend all of tomorrow at Sprawl, finishing my weekly hours. Should get the current layer of the pallet finished, so just one more layer to go on this collection. Another collection is waiting. 😉

Party with fleet friends this weekend… between work shifts. Should be  a good time.

Tried a few more stories in Rogues, but couldn’t get into them. So, I started Redwall. It’s amusing, if simple. Also got through Ghost Story, now into Cold Days… and nearly done with it, actually. Skin Game up next.

Spent most of the weekend with my parents watching the Olympic Games in their Air Conditioned hotel room. Yay, A/C. It was fun, I remember watching the olympics and other sports with them when I was growing up, it was a good time together. Hope my nieces are having wonderful birthdays, yesterday and today. 🙂

Work is going along. I did a lot of book-finding today at CML. We had our first official IFLA tour yesterday, and the Big One tomorrow. I’m nearly to 200 books cataloged on the new collection over at Sprawl. Lots of Science Fiction Book Club editions, and lots more signed editions. It’s very fun.

I finished Memnoch the Devil, and got through Allegiant. Now, I’m on Hat Full of Sky by Pratchett. I think, thus far, I’ve managed to listen to this series exactly backward. Ah well, it’s kind of interesting that way. Like delving into history.

The rental company has decided to do full-building pest control on Monday, one month before I move. So, I’ve got lots of early packing to do this weekend. Weee, fun! 😉

Biggest news of the week – I have had my application for a new apartment accepted. At the end of September, I will be moving to a new place – townhome with A/C and everything. 😉 Well, not everything, I think I’m still without a dishwasher, but at least I’ll have kitchen counters. And according to the crime map, it’s a safer area, too.

In work news, Whitehall’s wrapping up their Summer Reading Club and getting geared up for the school year. This weekend starts IFLA ( International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) and since we’re a new branch, we’ll have international visitors next week. Over at Sprawl, I just finished putting the newest collection into plastic totes – 54 in all, and tomorrow I’ll start cataloging them. A Lot of 1st edition hardcovers, and many of them signed.

In audiobook news – I just finished Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett (yes, I’m reading the series in the wrong order), and I’ve started in on Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice because, of all the books I’ve read by her, I thought this would be the most interesting to revisit. Also, everything else I want to listen to is on hold. And The Martian doesn’t appear to be available through the library.

Mom and Dad are coming to visit this weekend. The girls’ birthdays are next week, but they’re to the age of having friends parties instead of family. Had a nice weekend with the puppy, and enjoyed a few movies and finishing the first season of The Librarians on Hulu.

Weather is crazy as usual down here in Ohio. It’s currently snowing as I type this, with rain in a bit, then go back to snow… it was 60 degrees earlier this week. Spring is just a nice day away.

So, really enjoying cataloging old sci fi at The Sprawl Library. Found a few more interesting titles this week: Muddle Earth (John Brunner), Fallible Fiend (L. Sprague de Camp), and Gremlins, Go Home! (Ben Bova and Gordon R. Dickson). And you’d think I’d have time to read them, but wait, there’s more.

Today I got a job with Safelite Auto Glass, as a part-time Customer Service Rep. I start training on the 14th, and regular schedule two weeks later… given my background check and pre-employment screening come back clean. As I’ve worked for a school before, not worried about any surprises showing up there.

So, yeah… I’ll soon be super busy. But, happily so. The schedules don’t match up perfectly, but well enough that I can keep helping out at Sprawl while also earning enough to keep afloat. They tell me it’s easier to get a job when you already have one, which seems to be true, let’s see how well that continues.
