Spending the weekend with the puppy. We both wish we were in Vegas for Star Trek’s 50th, but ah well. Looks like folks are having fun there. I went out to dinner tonight with other folks who couldn’t make it out west. We had a very nice time at Mongolian BBQ. 🙂 A quiet weekend ahead for me. I need to catch up on sleep, it’s been a rough week for it.

I did go see Star Trek Beyond with friends last Friday. I thought it was very good in the new tradition, with a bit more thoughtfulness. Though the 3D did give me a headache, which was unusual for the new 3D style. Finally watched all three Hobbit movies, as well, over the weekend.

Four more books since my last post. Deja Dead, and Deadly Decisions by Kathy Reichs, a Radio-production of The Hobbit (by accident, I wanted the book to compare to the movies), and I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett. (Also by accident, there were not many Pratchett audiobooks available for immediate borrowing, and I didn’t realize it was the second in the kids series.) I think I’m done with Reichs, though I found these better than the first, it’s just not what I’m looking for in audiobooks. Still waiting for Allegiant to become available so I can finish that trilogy.

I had a very nice day at Cedar Point. It was super hot and humid, though, so we didn’t do a lot of line-standing. We rode three carosels (Cedar Downs twice); four coasters: Gemini, Millenium Force, Iron Dragon, and Magnum; one swing-ride, and the Sky Ride. Had a nice company picnic lunch, and a fun Johnny Rocket dinner, with our awesome waiter Soon, and some tasty treats throughout the day, and Lots of Water and Iced Tea. We visited every air-conditioned shop in the place, and went to the arcade twice, for some pinball, and a few other random games.

Sunday was a much quieter day. Visiting with friends and dinner out. MMmmm fresh-baked Naan. Monday night I had a nice home-cooked birthday dinner and shared in the weekend family birthday cake. Thank you Mom and Dad for the birthday dinner money, Gale and Larry for the Hobbit Trilogy, and Kit for Titan AE and Maestro. 🙂 And thank you to all my friends who shared happy greetings, time, and food with me. It was a very nice birthday weekend.

This week, I’ve listened to Have Spacesuit, Will Travel and Starship Troopers by Heinlein. And I’ve just downloaded two more Kathy Reichs to give her another shot. I still need to see Star Trek Beyond – maybe this weekend. I’ve not got much planned otherwise. Next week, I get to sit a Ralphie while people celebrate Star Trek’s 50th Birthday. Yay puppy! And Air Conditioning.

I’m looking at apartments, thinking about moving end of September. I’m tired of this place. And it’s only a little bit more there. We shall see.

I have spring break next week, but I still have a couple of assignments to finish for this week before I can really relax. And even then, I’ll probably do some homework to get ahead next week anyway. But yay, spring break!

Work is going along, some major reorganization of sections on the book floor. So that’s fun, even more so because I actually got to help with it today. Yay, for productivity. New receiving manager has actually started being receiving manager, so that’s helpful. No news yet on the job front.

Lots of things to do with friends this weekend. Looking forward to relaxing, and maybe even watching some old Trek. Gotta get laundry and homework done, first though. Making a noodle/pasta/chicken conglomerate for dinner tonight (and lunch tomorrow… and maybe dinner, too). Hope it turns out alright. I really have to get better at going grocery shopping regularly.

Life is good, and Spring officially starts this weekend. Happy Birthday Alyssa!

Week five of classes, the last week of the Tools for Success class, and the big final project is a Wordle and a video. I had a lot of trouble with lighting and sound yesterday, today I must either edit what I made, or do it all over again. Yay, fun. The group project is going well, midpoint grading happens after this weekend. So, we’ll see how the Professor thinks it’s going then. I start my Foundations class next week, too. On more month of two classes, and then November will just be down to one class to finish the semester. So far, so good.

Work is heading full steam ahead. Lots of new toys and games for the holidays. A nook price drop, for at least this week, they won’t tell us if it is permanent, they never do. Some nebulous “new thing” on the horizon, as always, for the holiday season. All the DVDs I want to own have come out this month – Dr Who 7, Ironman 3, and Star Trek Into Darkness. But I’m being good and not spending money on expensive things. Still spending most of my time in Music, so if you’re bored during the morning/early afternoon, come say hi. (And, yes, we’re still hiring, especially if you like coffee and want to work in the cafe.)

Health is pretty good. Stupid wrist is still stupid. And I keep getting headaches when I walk out the door, not sure what’s up with that, maybe I’m just not paying as much attention when I’m in the apartment and the sunlight outside reminds me. Perhaps I should get to the Chiro for my neck.

Anyway, video editing to do. See you next week.

Spent the weekend with my family. Saturday was the girls’ birthday party. We had make-your-own soft tacos for lunch, and cake and ice cream for dessert. The cake had Ariel on it, both the girls’ names and candles for each of them to blow out. They got lots of toys and books, and had a great time putting things together and trying them out. Adorable as always, we had a great afternoon with my brother’s family, my parents, Jen’s parents, and my aunt and uncle.

Sunday, my parents and aunt and uncle (and dogs) came down for a picnic in a “nearby” park. The map made it look much closer than it really was, but we found it eventually. The pups had a nice run with the big dogs in the huge dog park. Then we went to a picnic area for lunch of salads and sandwiches. A short walk around a nearby pond finished out our afternoon in the sun.

Mom and I did some grocery shopping, and then went to see Star Trek Into Darkness at the dollar theater. Monday, we did some household and shoe shopping, then took Dad to Red Lobster. He and I spent the afternoon telling stories on the couch while Mom napped. Then one final meal before they headed back to the hotel.

It was a good visit.

Now, I’m eager for school to start on Monday. My professors have started posting welcome messages, but they are holding off on the syllabus posting until Monday. I did finally get a name for my tools for success class, a PhD candidate at KSU. Just a few more days to go! 🙂

Really liked the new Star Trek movie. Got to go see a sneak peak with friends last night. We had a lot of fun together, including free cookie Wednesday afterward at Max & Erma’s. I think it would have been just as good in 2D, but the sneak peak didn’t give us that option. Fortunately, 3D tech has gotten better and it didn’t make me ill, though many folk complained about lens flare. I’m just used to it, I guess. (Thanks Joss.) This weekend will be spent with friends, hanging out on Friday and fleet on Saturday and Sunday. Next week is Camping! Yay camping! Haven’t done that in Ages. 🙂

All paperwork has been completed and filed with Kent State. Now I get to wait for a decision. Quite excited by the prospect. Still poking libraries for jobs. Waiting for acceptance to plan the rest of the financials. Trying to decide if I’m staying in this apartment complex or moving elsewhere. Will be looking at a place or two in Bexley on Monday. Bookcase space being the hardest part of finding a new apartment, second only to washer/dryer hookups.

Hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day this past Sunday.

Quiet, Old Movies and Joomla! January 31, 2013

This past week has been very quiet for me. Relaxing and staying home for most of it. I watched some old movies I had missed – some TNG Star Trek, and some Michael Douglas films(not intentionally, he just happened to star it both of them). Even pulled up Rocky Horror for a fun evening. I did some more Joomla! work this week, as well, setting it up at the Cates Creative Design site. Drupal’s next, then actually putting content on all the pages.

It looks like my next career move will be into the university world. Seven of the eight jobs I’ve applied for so far have been at colleges here in Columbus. No positive word back from any of my applications, but it hasn’t been that long yet. Rich is in the background/references check phase, so we’re hopeful for an offer to be coming soon on his end.

Still waiting on the paperwork from unemployment, then I get to do Taxes! Yay, fun. 😉

So, all these ideas floating in my head. All these ideas flowing out onto my blog, or in my journals. Business ideas, product ideas, website ideas, writing ideas, education ideas, financial ideas. But idea alone don’t get me anywhere. I need to make plans, decide on steps, break them down into manageable bits instead of grandiose ideas that intimidate me just to look at them. Whenever a phrase comes to mind about time, in this case: time is at a premium, another quote comes to mind: Time is the Fire in which we Burn – from Star Trek Generations, the villian Soran, referencing a poem by Delmore Schwartz. I am so busy already, that I trying to make the time for new things is often overwhelming.

Rich gave me a career change suggestion the other night that I am considering looking into. Retail is not what I want to do with my life, but I do love books and stability. I just don’t know if it is a feasible move given my schedule and per hour requirements. It could be, though.  Mike asked me about working for him “full time.” We are still negotiating what that means and the pros and cons of it.

Health was a bit rocky the last few weeks, my shoulders were complaining loudly and constantly, so I ended up on a Prednisone burst to calm them down. Back off it now, and feeling better, but not 100% yet. Got a few mosquito bites last night, but given it’s August, I was probably due.

Made spelt bread this week, just finished it up today. It’s thick and heavy, but with a bit of garlic and oregano, it’s fairly tasty. Pondering a cheese-less spelt pizza in my near future, with spinach and broccoli. Had one from whole wheat the other day at Whole World and it was very good. Probably doing sweet potato, asparagus and broccoli for dinner tonight.

Life is good.
