Hope everyone had a great Christmas weekend. I had a very nice visit with my brother, sis-in-law, nephew, and nieces this weekend. We even played Monopoly (Jr) without any big fusses. It was good to see them all and catch up with their lives and adventures. I spent the rest of the weekend watching my holiday movies: Die Hard 1 & 2 and Star Wars IV, V, & VI. Coming up: A quiet ringing in of the new year with small handful of friends.

On the reading front, finished books 6 and 7 of the Dresden files, and Captain’s Fury. Tried a short story collection, but only got a few stories in before getting annoyed at now knowing who any of the people were, and went back to Butcher for Princep’s Fury.

Work is quieter with the holidays. Not so many people out, hardly any requests for things. But it’s good to get everything caught up and ready for the new year, and long weekends are extra nice for this ex-retail worker.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe New Year’s Eve and New Year. See you in 2017.

… a lot like Christmas. The librarian brought in garland to decorate the office today. The snow is sticking quite firmly to the ground. Parties have begun for the holidays. I’m halfway through present shopping/making and am still trying to sort out the family visit. Looking forward to seeing my nieces and nephew, and brother and sis-in-law.

My jobs are hot and cold. The library’s heat is running quite well, though I hear the A/C turned on yesterday when it got warm enough. Sprawl, however, is a bit on the chilly side. I have a space heater for my work area, and the office folk turned on the big blower in the back when they realized I was there yesterday (they didn’t have anybody on their side of the warehouse). I finished the collection I was working on, and Tomorrow I start the new collection that just arrived.

Instead of TV/Netflix at home, I’ve been binging on Dresden Files audio books again. At Sprawl, I’ve gotten through Harm None, and now I’m onto Captain’s Fury. Though, today I did watch the new Ghostbusters and the newest James Bond – Spectre. Hoping to see Rogue One this weekend.

Hope everyone has a great, and safe, holiday season.

I had a really good time at MarCon with friends this past weekend. Some tasty beverages, as usual, from the bar – even the premixes were delicious (maybe a little Too delicious…). Some very good food from both the hotel and Max & Erma’s. I visited the Art Show and the Dealers Room. All full of fun and crazy things. I even bought a new book, though I resisted buying any art – I really am bad at decorating with what I have already. I also played some games, both at the parties, and in the official gaming area – my first time ever playing a miniatures game – Star Wars Attack Wing, I believe – and I didn’t do too poorly at it, either. I did manage to be too responsible/helpful, and got promoted on Friday night, but my friends took good care of me/celebrated with me.

And the week just got better and better. On Monday, I was asked to do some further paperwork for an interview I’d had. Then, on Wednesday, I was offered, and accepted a new job from the Whitehall branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library – Just up the road from me, and half a block from where I had my internship this fall. I start on the 23rd. So very excited!! (Submitted resignation letter to current job today.) It’s part time, so I can keep cataloging for Sprawl Library, while I get my feet wet learning the CML’s systems. Also, looking forward to being back on my feet and moving around on the job again.

I’ve finished the set of Heinlein I was working on, so now I’m listening to the first book in Brent Week’s Night Angel trilogy – thieves and assassins, my kind of book. 🙂

On a more political note, a post came across my Facebook yesterday that I think is very important: More Than 100 Methodist Ministers Defy Church Rules, Come Out as LGBT. Having grown up in the UMC, I feel that it is high time we remember that God is Love.

Pop Culture and Vinyl July 16, 2015

Most of my time at work this week was full of our Vinyl rollout. We now have three bays of vinyl in our music department, instead of just one little table. I hope it keeps selling…  The rest of the store is consumed by the Pop Culture events this month. Tomorrow night is Minions, Saturday is Star Wars, and Sunday is Manga Mania, which kicks off a week-long Buy Two, Get One Free sale. Head to your local B&N folks, it’s going to be a fun weekend. 🙂

For me? The weekend will be full of final project homework. My birthday is next weekend, and I’d like to be doing as little homework as possible after going to Cedar Point with friends next Friday. So, I have to add content to all my new webpages, and submit a progress report. Then I have to get my digital library of travel photos pulled together, and filled with metadata. I believe I have a progress report to do on that, as well. Oh, yeah, and I need to email the guy at CML about setting up a meeting to discuss my second internship this fall.

At least we’ve had some nice weather this week. Some pretty huge storms, too, but also some sun to dry things off. Like that tree in the road just down from me. 😉 Summer is halfway over already, how did that happen??

Had a really nice Christmas. Spent Christmas Eve morning at work, with very understanding folks who knew they were too late for what they wanted. Spent the rest of the day watching Star War, wrapping presents and snuggling the puppy. Christmas Day I spent the afternoon with Pete and family, including their new dog. We had a great time with new toys, games, puzzles and books. Then I spent the evening watching the end of Matt Smith’s term as Doctor Who. I have new (and old) movies to watch, new books to read, and new clothes to shop for. Thank you to those that sent cards, I filled up my “mantlepiece” this year. 🙂 Hope everyone else had a wonderful day as well.

Now, if I can just get rid of this cold, I’d be doing great. I think I’ve caught up on all the in-theater movies I want to see (unless Ender makes it to the dollar theater), so this weekend will involve more resting after work on Saturday. On another health note, if anyone has a three-bean chili recipe they’re particularly fond of, I’m in the market. Cold med-head has put Ancestry.com research on temporary hold, but I should get back to it next week.
