My big event of the week(end) was Mom coming to visit Sunday lunch through Tuesday lunch. She spoiled us with lots of good food, including bringing homemade Chex mix and puppy chow. We also watched lots of movies together – Argo, Up and Avengers. Monday, we went thrifting while NTB changed my oil and serpentine belt. We got me five new work shirts and a new short winter jacket.  Also stopped out to Meijer for a few things, including her getting a couple photos printed. It was a very nice visit.

Still requesting prayers for my Grandpa. Waiting to hear more news, been pretty quiet since Saturday.

The store started playing Christmas music this week. They swear it’s only one of the five CDs, but it must be a really long one. One of my radio stations has also gone all-Christmas. Still not sure what our holiday plans are for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Several options floating around, just need to make decisions. Really wish we could get All of our Nook HD reservations into the store now. I know the storm messed some of it up, but come on, one box at a time isn’t a storm problem. We’re missing sales by a lot lately, and we don’t have the devices people want to buy. Self-correcting problem, I’d think… But then it’s always like that until the flow really starts going for a new device. Still frustrating. And they are very pretty. 🙂

Finished Nicholas and Alexandra by Massie, taking a break from history to read some magazines for a couple weeks. Russian history is fairly depressing. At least now I know the trouble with the Disney version of Anastasia. Rasputin being dead before the family died, and not being vindictive towards them in the least. Though he was a rather rotten man, in any case, though not an evil sorcerer.

Last week, I had three Thanksgiving pot luck dinners with three groups of friends. I have such a great chosen family down here, it’s wonderful. On the weekend, I went to a Thanksgiving party (also potluck) with even more friends. There were over 90 of us there and plenty of people helped set up and clean up. An excellent time, celebrating a season of harvest and gratitude.

Sunday, I helped two friends move in with two other friends. The support we all give each other is amazing. Rich and I have always managed to find our next place to live without hassle, but I can’t even count the number of times my friends have gathered to help people out in emergency (and non-emergency) moves this year.

Rich and I also went to the new Muppet movie for Thanksgiving. It was cute and fun, with the theme of: life is great with people you care about beside you. And it is true. My life is so much better for everyone in it.

I got a call this week, from a staffing company who found my resume on Monster. And they asked me if I was interested in a full time data entry and analysis job for the county. Caught off guard, I wasn’t sure, but it could be good, so why not take a look. An Excel test was required to qualify, so she sent me an email with a link, and even less detail about the job. But an address, which I Googled, to find out what I might be looking at. The address brought up the county disability office and county special olympics office. Both could be good and useful places to work. I took the test on a mock up, pop-up of excel 2010, got three wrong, and waited. Today I got the call that they want to interview me… tomorrow. Excited, curious, nervous. And waiting on an email with further details. This could fulfill my goal of “meaningful job.” Both those offices help people. And it’s a real job, 40 hours a week, real wages, state benefits(unconfirmed). So, wish me luck and confidence.

I’m really not focused enough for anything else right now. Thanksgiving next week. Holidays fast approaching. No plans made. But fun to be had by all.

Life is good.

We have reset for the holidays at the store. The only changes from now until end of year will be new releases, and taking down Thanksgiving books at the end of November. Christmas music will probably start about that time, as well. Though Artist of the Month is Transiberian Orchestra already. They make me happy. We are hiring seasonal folk this year, after the fail of not having done last year. And I’m getting decent hours these days (for being part time). A new nook was announced, this one a tablet, and the prices on the rest dropped. So, lots of good electronic sales for the holiday season. I’m not excited for the crowds to come, but I think it should be a really good season for the store.

I got my resume updated and online this week. And I am about halfway through my WordPress book. So those are both moving forward again.

I got new tires today. My car is just over 106,000 miles now, and the edges had worn down completely. Cooper brand tires because they were out of the Goodyear. So instead of an $80 rebate, I got tires that were over $80 cheaper to begin with. Full replacement warranty, as well.  Any problems at all equals a free new tire.

Weather’s turning colder, leaves are bright colors or completely gone. No snow, but it’s my big brother’s birthday today. Happy Birthday, Pete. Hope you have a great day with wife and kids.

As ready as the store is for the holidays, we haven’t even begun to sort out our plans. Though I think we’ll be watching Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on Christmas. Plenty of friends and some family around, I’m sure we’ll have another wonderfully busy holiday season.

I have an amazing life. Complex, crazy, busy, stressful, and yet wonderful, filled with love and opportunity, fun and challenge, friends and family. I am a writer, introverted, anti-social, quiet and more at home in nature than a city. But I have found something incredible here. I have found acceptance and love, growth and exploration, and a life more full than I ever expected to have. My dream house has a furnished attic with pillows and a big circular window, a papasan and some bean bags. Used to be, I’d imagine myself spending most of my time up there, writing in seclusion and quiet. I still want that attic office, but now it’s for my private writing time each day, when I take some time to myself amidst a life full of so much else. I am incredibly thankful for everything and everyone that has made my life what it is today.

Thank you Mom and Dad, for always loving and supporting me, even when you do not understand or agree.

Thank you Peter, for challenging me to be my best.

Thank you Rich, for loving me and taking this journey with me, forever and always.

Thank you Erika, for making me promise to try anything once and for always being there, near or far.

Thank you Kalyn, for helping me find my voice and my backbone, and for always asking the good, hard and important questions.

Thank you Sage and Shayera, for encouraging me to keep writing.

Thank you Mike, for showing me the sky.

Thank you Chris, for patiently teaching me so much.

Thank you Mrs. Przybyla, for giving me The Hobbit when I moved away in 6th grade.

Thank you Mrs. Heinrich, for challenging me to go beyond my comfort zones, and the easy path.

Thank you Dr. Porcheddu, for being inspiring, even at 8:30am on a Monday morning.

Thank you Denison, for helping me find and create myself.

Thank you Monarchy, for all the good times, and good friends, and good vacations.

Thank you DGG, for setting my imagination running.

Thank you WARPS, for being my home away from home.

Thank you to all my friends and family, near and far, for loving and accepting me, for making my life a joy to live, and for sharing your lives with me.

Happy Thanksgiving!

What are you thankful for?

Not much to report this week. Still applying to jobs at Elance, no bites yet, but several still under consideration. I’ve been watching the Harry Potter movies this week in preparation for the release of the first half of the seventh this weekend. Makes me want to sit down and read the whole series again. I’ve got a whole stack of books I haven’t even read the first way through, yet, too. The purported end of the Deverry series – final four books, all in hard cover. The last real Robert Jordan, and then Sanderson’s two. I’m even behind on Salvatore, and haven’t finished Eddings’ Redemption of Athalus, though I’m getting close on that one.

Thanksgiving with friends next week. Then the holidays begin. Ah, retail at holiday. At least we stay busy. The nookColor demos came in this week. Lots of fun to play with. Browser works really well and the picture quality is excellent. There are now 43 magazines available, too. Netbook still needs a new video cable, probably going to have to ebay it. Troublesome little thing, but oh so handy when it’s working.

Much to do, never enough time, enjoy what I have and work towards more.

It has been an interesting week. In the interests of getting myself motivated to get on with my life and grow up, I took the week away from Bookup. I finished up one project from home on Monday and have been tracking metrics daily, but I have not gone to the corporate office this week. Instead, I spent the time applying to jobs on Elance, setting up an account at Textbroker.com, and working on some personal website projects.

I am actually quite excited about one of the jobs at Elance that I applied for, though I don’t know if the employer will accept my enthusiasm. It involves analyzing the effects of some 18th and 19th century literature on the current vision of the vampire in today’s literature and media. Might end up reading all the pieces even if I don’t get the job. I enjoy Bookup and have no intention of leaving, but if I’m ever going to get out of retail, I have to get the rest of my life moving, as well.

Rich’s schedule changed starting last week, giving him Friday and Saturday off. Which is nice. Weekend time together, though I’m usually working all day Friday and working or asleep on Saturday. 😉 We’ll see how that all falls out over the next few weeks of adjusting.

Health and finances are going on par for the year. Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and then Christmas and New Year’s.  Where did 2010 go? So much to do, and time keeps zipping by.

Half a year, wow! When you do something long enough, it becomes habit. That’s definitely the case here. Eating this way has become a habit for me. Yeah, I still enjoy all the food I used to eat. Yeah, I still crave a candy bar or piece of pie. And yes, I eat those things occasionally, even meat on my cheat days. But, however you look at it, I’m eating much healthier now. I am eating load of veggies when it used to be only at restaurants and maybe twice a month at home. I am eating far less junk food, sugar, dairy and soda. There is more balance in my diet, and it has been very good for me. It’s the holidays now, and there are lots of temptations. I had three huge, delicious and off-diet meals last week for Thanksgiving, and I enjoyed them thoroughly. Christmas is only a few weeks away, and there will be feasting then as well. I am in more control of my health now, I understand that it is up to me, and the choices I make. So I can make whatever choices I want, as long as I’m willing to deal with the consequences.

A quiet week. Not much has changed. Still just trouble with my elbow. I had a shot of Enbrel on Monday to prepare for the Thanksgiving splurge of eating. Eating this way has officially become habit now. That’s good for me, I guess. Veggies make me happy, if only they didn’t spoil so quickly, so I could use all the fresh stuff I buy. But life is busy and hectic, so I try not to buy too much at once, and frozen veggies are good for the winter anyway. I like warm meals.
