Wild Weather = Angry Sinuses March 26, 2015

Snow one day, 60 degrees the next, and then freezing and snow again by end of week. This weather is driving my head and sinuses crazy. I even took a half day today. The wrong half, apparently, as a hazmat spill made my drive home three times as long at end of day. I had fun with it though and drove through Sunbury and Johnstown on my way home. (For those playing the home game, that was 71N to 36/37E to 161W.)

I had intended to do some homework this week, despite spring break, but plans and exhaustion have kept me from working too hard. Probably will pick it up again on Saturday. Really want to at least get my web final done Saturday before I go to a couple birthday parties.

Play-Testing of Legacy of Heroes 2 is going really well. The party is now split into three groups, and no one has died yet. Which is pretty impressive for a lvl 1 party. Nearly done with Book 4 of War Against the Chtorr series, Really enjoying it. Soon to be joining the fans impatiently waiting for decades for the final book. I’m looking at you David Gerrold…

For all my friends and family who read these blog (and pass it on to those who don’t), I love you, and appreciate having you in my life, whether nearby or around the globe.

Calm Before the Storm August 9, 2012

This past weekend was my calm weekend, before all the family trips and conventions. But I still had a lot of fun. Friday evening I went to an animal shelter to meet Ralphie, a very sweet rottweiler mix, that is now being fostered by some very good friends. Then we went to the Dublin Irish Festival, to window shop, listen to music and eat faire food. I had a bread bowl of beef stew and saw some really nice dresses and skirts, and lots of good wood carving. Saturday was spent watching the first four Harry Potter movies and eating lots of tasty food. From Pancakes and bacon to kettle corn, to guacamole to grilled hotdogs and hamburgers. A great time was had by all.

Sunday and most of Monday, I spent editing the new Races book for The Legacy of Heroes. I’m very much looking forward to playing my new Brownie archer on Tuesday. There are all sorts of new options, in race, bloodlines, setup, stances and magic items.

Also spent Monday getting my car ready for the trip to Maine. Oil change and new front brake pads. All set and ready to go. One more week and we’ll be on our way. But first, the girls’ party this Sunday. Happy Birthday, kiddos!

Slow Week… for Me Anyway December 8, 2011

I was trying to figure out what I’ve done in the last week worth posting about, and coming up pretty empty. Friends have had good things. One had a baby last week and is now home enjoying the addition to the family. One got a job she was after, raise and all. Another found out the job she wants hasn’t passed her by, they just haven’t started interviewing yet.ย  Another friend got a job offer he had been waiting and negotiating for. The holiday season is bringing early gifts to a lot of people this year.

The Game Master’s Guide of The Legacy of Heroes came out this week. I helped with the play testing and editing of this book as well as the Player’s Guide. So we’re excited about that release.

I’ve done some of our holiday shopping. Still haven’t heard from my brother yet, but got the hula hoops Mom wanted. Have other gifts planned, but not purchased, and others I haven’t even begun to figure out yet. And, it seems to be the year for it, no idea when the family Christmas is going to be. ๐Ÿ™‚

My elbow was driving me crazy today, but all in all, I’m doing pretty well lately. Taking my meds, eating fairly well. I’ve had headaches all week, but that’s another matter entirely. If I can just figure out how to get my wrist and elbow back to good shape, all would be well with my body.

I’m getting more used to working two jobs again, but it’s still quite tiring, what with everything else still going full steam. But the files are now all in order, though 21 of the boxes don’t have homes yet. And that number is just Not going to work out well.ย  I have about one box of unfiled papers still needing put in the right folders. And then that project is done. They’ve asked me to stay four more weeks, with the suggestion that the library could use my help ( right now it’s a bunch of boxes of books and some empty fixtures). So we’ll see how that goes.

It’s October, the holiday season is upon us. I am once again pondering the effort and expense of a Halloween costume. I have hardly bothered since becoming an adult. (Yeah, laugh all you want ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) Don’t know that it’s going to change this year either. The holiday displays are going up in the store and next month, holiday hours start piling up. I don’t know what this IS going to mean for my schedule, but it Could be good things. It will mean the insanity of another retail Christmas. The school doesn’t seem interested in hiring me permanently, so no escape valve, yet.

Health is doing alright. It’d be doing better if I was more conscious of taking care of myself. I’m trying to be, but everything is so busy. Got fresh fruits and veggies yesterday. Eating more salad as I rush between jobs. My jobs are very physical, but actual exercise would be good for me. Remembering to take the meds I asked for every day would probably be good for me, too. ๐Ÿ˜‰ All in all, though, I’m doing well.

Just got my copy of The Legacy of Heroes this week. Is pretty. Our BSG-based game with it is going along well. We are actually able to kill some of the suits now. (Toaster being anachronistic in a fantasy world, but suits of armor seems a fitting alternative.) And we’ve gotten our call to the oracle, so that’s up soon. Somehow my monk is still alive. And soon, she might even be effective, thanks to our GM’s gift. Fun stuff.

So Much To Do September 8, 2011

After being unmotivated last week, I’ve spent most of this week editing The Legacy of Heroes Game Master Guide. It’s been quite educational for me. Except for one stint at a very strange, but entertaining Vampire game, I’ve never had reason to read a GM’s book or a Monster book before, and this one is both in one. Really enjoying this project, and the humorous touches that Vinnie et al included in this book.

We had a nice relaxed celebration of Rich’s birthday this past weekend. A couple nice meals, some Dr Who and Torchwood. Didn’t get to go rollerblading again, due to wet weather, but we had a good time even so.

I purchased a new domain this week as well, and set up a new webhosting account with HostGator. In the coming weeks, I will be creating a portfolio there. First a demo WordPress site, then a demo Drupal site, then a demo Joomla site. After that, I’ll be studying PHP and MySQL to see what I can learn to enhance my knowledge of these systems. At some point after that, I may do a Wiki demo, too. This is not something I want to turn into a huge business, but it is something I’d like to do as one of my streams of income.

On the income note, I’ve been doing a bit of job searching, but not much, due to the large amounts of editing I left myself for this week. Next week, I’ll start putting together applications and start applying if I can find the types of jobs I want. According to my Plan, official deadline for applying to jobs is the 24th of this month.

I’ve also got a couple of story ideas floating around in my head, but they haven’t come rushing to the front quite yet. Health is doing pretty well. No major issues lately, just the usual. Life is good, and so full of opportunity and love.

One Month In July 28, 2011

We’ve been in the new place for a month now, still not decorated and the electronics aren’t all set up yet, but we’re getting there. It’s nice and cozy with just a little bit of clutter. Got a bunch of books for my birthday to fill up partial collections (Thank, Gale and Larry). Got an awesome papasan for the library. It’s so soft and fluffy! Slightly noisy neighbors, but mostly just during the day, so no big deal there. And the maintenance guy has fixed everything we’ve asked him to. I have to make one more request, but it’s minor, so I’m not worried about it yet.

As for work, we’re rearranging the Entire store, so I’ve got a lot more hours as the regular workers are pulling all-nighters. So that’ll help balance the budget after moving expenses ran a little high. No FTP details, and my educator friend is taking a well-earned and much needed vacation this week, so no updates on other fronts.

On a geeky level, we’re still polishing up The Legacy of Heroes for August publication. Next week is maximum level characters, just to go all out and see what happens. I started work on two character concepts yesterday, because I couldn’t choose between them. The amount of customization in this new system is just fantastic.

On a health level, pretty much maintaining at this point. I’m not feeling substantially better, yet, for the first month of drugs, but I’m not feeling worse for the slightly deteriorating eating habits.ย  I’m not maintaining the 80% alkaline anymore, but in general my eating habits are far better than they used to be, and I don’t eat much junk food aside from chocolate. And I do aim for the darkest I can find. Finding a balance, but still hoping to hit a slightly higher plateau than this.

I didn’t exactly forget that the 4th of July was coming, I just didn’t take it into account in my plans. I grabbed a lot of things that needed done and thought I’d have the whole weekend to do them. I was wrong. I ended up going to visit friends in Michigan for the weekend and then spending Monday at a picnic and cooking out.

I had a great time. It was good to see Erika, Kate and JD, as well as their families. The campfire was nice and the kayaking was a lot of fun. I didn’t even get sunburned or sore muscles. I did, however, get mosquito bites. Which got multiplied on Monday. It’s summer, though, so bug bites are required, I suppose.

As far as the apartment, that got majorly stalled, but I got a pantry rack yesterday and now the kitchen is complete. All that’s left now are the desks and entertainment system and final clean up. We have discovered a problem with the oven โ€“ it smells of gas when on (not the stove, just the oven), and sets off the smoke detectors (I guess they don’t just detect smoke). So I’ll be calling in the morning to have that looked at. I also Googled the problem for a few things to check myself if maintenance takes forever.

I’m working on the first full edit of The Legacy of Heroes this week as well. I have enjoyed the play-tests so far, but reading everything in detail makes me want to play/create characters even more. When I get through the whole thing, I may even understand it all. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ba-Con this weekend! So that’ll be a great time. Gaming, geeks and Bacon!
