My big event of the week(end) was Mom coming to visit Sunday lunch through Tuesday lunch. She spoiled us with lots of good food, including bringing homemade Chex mix and puppy chow. We also watched lots of movies together – Argo, Up and Avengers. Monday, we went thrifting while NTB changed my oil and serpentine belt. We got me five new work shirts and a new short winter jacket.  Also stopped out to Meijer for a few things, including her getting a couple photos printed. It was a very nice visit.

Still requesting prayers for my Grandpa. Waiting to hear more news, been pretty quiet since Saturday.

The store started playing Christmas music this week. They swear it’s only one of the five CDs, but it must be a really long one. One of my radio stations has also gone all-Christmas. Still not sure what our holiday plans are for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Several options floating around, just need to make decisions. Really wish we could get All of our Nook HD reservations into the store now. I know the storm messed some of it up, but come on, one box at a time isn’t a storm problem. We’re missing sales by a lot lately, and we don’t have the devices people want to buy. Self-correcting problem, I’d think… But then it’s always like that until the flow really starts going for a new device. Still frustrating. And they are very pretty. 🙂

Finished Nicholas and Alexandra by Massie, taking a break from history to read some magazines for a couple weeks. Russian history is fairly depressing. At least now I know the trouble with the Disney version of Anastasia. Rasputin being dead before the family died, and not being vindictive towards them in the least. Though he was a rather rotten man, in any case, though not an evil sorcerer.

One Week To Go December 15, 2011

Just over a week until Christmas. The store is busy, but I don’t work the evenings, so I don’t see the crazy. And I don’t have to work this coming weekend either – busiest weekend of the year.  So, I’m excited about that, too. I do have a forty hour week next week, including Christmas Eve, but hey. Can’t have everything.

I saw an article in the newspapers I put out today about some churches not having services on Christmas Sunday because “people don’t want to be in church on Christmas.” Now, much to Mom’s lament, I am no longer a regular church attender, but for those that are, this seems a ridiculous sentiment. In fact, before I read this headline, I was considering doing just that on Christmas morning. It’s Christmas… I mean, I suppose, folk’ll go to Christmas Eve services the night before, and once in a weekend is enough for s, buomet to not have services on a Sunday, because it is Christmas, just seems a little bit backwards to me.

Okay, enough ranting, back to your regularly scheduled commercialization of Christmas… So far, I’ve bought clothes with Christmas gift money. Pants, gloves, hat and socks. If I’m lucky, I’ll also manage new shoes. On the topic of pants, I don’t understand my body, and I wonder if I’m just odd or if other women have this problem. I tried to go thrifting, but after two runs through the racks for three different sizes, I gave up and went to Meijer where sizes are easier to come by. I have always felt my upper body is too small for my lower body and pants shopping proved it. I could not find a pair of pants big enough for my thighs and hips, and yet small enough for my waist. I did the best I could, but I still need to find a good belt that doesn’t pinch my belly. Maybe that’s what I’ll do with the little bit still left.

First holiday potluck of the season tonight, I should get ready and head out to that. Have a safe and happy holiday season all the way through to the New Year.

We’re going to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 on Sunday, so I’ve been reading all the books again in preparation. I know the movies are different and cut a lot of stuff out, that’s to be expected, I just wanted to remember it all correctly before the final movie. I’m starting Deathly Hallows today. 🙂

It’s a busy week for me. Two days of thrifting for clothes. A haircut. (Thank you, JoJo!) Wonderful evenings with friends and loved ones. Meals out to celebrate. A couple full 8-hour shifts at work. Lots of reading, a little writing. Even some responsible stuff at the BMV. Having a great time, and looking forward to spending my birthday with Rich and other friends at an incidental pool party between our birthday lunch and our movie endeavor.

Up next week – probably going to raid Half Price to finish out a few collections with whatever birthday money is left unspent. One more bit of editing for the gaming book. And hopefully some FTP details so I can do some more website work. As well as over 20 hours at the store.

Life is not just good, it’s great. 🙂

Having trouble finding a cheap, big apartment in a safe neighborhood. The one I blogged about last week gave me the creeps driving around it. Most of the ones I found this week have high crime rates. I know it’s a city, but none of the complexes have emailed me back either. Not a good sign.  More looking to be done. Higher standards, lower prices, doesn’t always work out. 😉 Haven’t given up, though. Some say buy a house, it’s cheaper, but we don’t have the employment record or the down payment for that right now, let alone the other fees involved. Some day. 🙂

More interviews for Rich. Keeping fingers and toes all crossed. Still plotting my web take over.

Finished The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for the second time this week. Nearly done with Orc King. Cat sitting for friends, even the angriest cat gets lonely and snuggles. Made friends with a Taiwanese Mountain Dog and a ginger cat on Monday. Both adorable.

Some doc bills paid off with the refund check. Down to four major ones now, one of which is now below 1K. I’ve got a study appointment next week that I’m getting paid to go to. Thanks to Delve.com. Then I’ll be scheduling a paid interview on a new product after that. Yay, for consumer research studies. I may even manage to buy some new summer clothes at the thrift store with the second check.  Yay thrift. 🙂

Okay, enough rambling for now. See you next week. 🙂
