Had our first snow yesterday and it was cold enough to stick around today. My car’s water pump and heat are now fully fixed. Only took four trips to the shop. πŸ˜‰ Yay, heat!

Finished Mad Ship, and am nearly done with I am Legend. Up next is probably I am Malala.

Most of my time at work this week was full of our Vinyl rollout. We now have three bays of vinyl in our music department, instead of just one little table. I hope it keeps selling… Β The rest of the store is consumed by the Pop Culture events this month. Tomorrow night is Minions, Saturday is Star Wars, and Sunday is Manga Mania, which kicks off a week-long Buy Two, Get One Free sale. Head to your local B&N folks, it’s going to be a fun weekend. πŸ™‚

For me? The weekend will be full of final project homework. My birthday is next weekend, and I’d like to be doing as little homework as possible after going to Cedar Point with friends next Friday. So, I have to add content to all my new webpages, and submit a progress report. Then I have to get my digital library of travel photos pulled together, and filled with metadata. I believe I have a progress report to do on that, as well. Oh, yeah, and I need to email the guy at CML about setting up a meeting to discuss my second internship this fall.

At least we’ve had some nice weather this week. Some pretty huge storms, too, but also some sun to dry things off. Like that tree in the road just down from me. πŸ˜‰ Summer is halfway over already, how did that happen??

Happy New Year!

I hope every is having a good 2013 so far, and had a safe celebration of the turning of the year. I had a great time with friends who live nearby. We spent the day smoking pork, and watching Fringe, among other things. Then went to a party that was half New Year’s and half goodbye for the house owner who is moving to Chicago. Many well wishes to him and his fiance.

I have updated my resume (more polish to come, as always), and my job searches with an aim towards Web Content Management/Development/Editing type jobs. Rich is still busily applying to jobs and looking for new opportunities. On a more personal level, I’m hoping to spend more time writing and learning web design this year.

Longest day of the year, and official start to summer was yesterday. And the temperatures are certainly agreeing. Lots of high 80s and low 90s around here these days. Occasional drops of rain to cool it down, but far less than is good for us.

My parents had a busy weekend: 39th anniversary, Father’s Day and moving all in three days’ time. But they seem to have survived it (and the down pouring rains) without too much hassle. I look forward to more pictures and actually getting to visit them at some point.

This Saturday is full of overlapping friends’ gatherings. A women’s event, a cookout wedding reception, and my usual night out. Oh, and I have to work all morning. Not sure what all I’m going to make it to. But it should be a fun day.

Less than two weeks until our trip to Boise. We’re pondering watching the fireworks from Bogus. Also, going to Wingers and Fuddruckers are a must. I miss good burgers and Wingers’ sauce. (No, Mike, I’m not getting a veggie burger, that’s what Northstar is for.)

Anyone going to England for the Olympics and have a suitcase I can hitch a ride in? I’ve got a place to stay, I just can’t afford the ticket… πŸ˜‰Β  Okay, can’t afford to miss the work either, but hey, who’s counting…

Also still looking for a job at a nonprofit. Not having much luck, or I don’t have the right skill sets they need. No word back from Mongoose. Anyone need a website designed or maintained? πŸ˜‰

I keep having all these big ideas and dreams about what I want to do with my life. And they tend to fizzle. I am too comfortable where I am. It’s scary to take those big steps. My college computer had a fortune taped to the monitor that said: Don’t be afraid to take that big step, but that monitor is gone now.

My contact point at Mongoose is leaving the company. I never have seen a contract. She said she’ll pass on my information, but not to who or when. Hoping not to get lost in the shuffle there, but I don’t know that I can do much to prevent it until I get an email from whoever the new person in charge of freelancers turns out to be.

I have all this web design information, but I rarely take the time to study it. Or, more importantly, practice it. The few folks who’ve expressed interest in my doing web work for them have fallen through. And it’s just so much easier to relax than worry about it.

I’m stuck in the trap of comfortable and stable. Like so many people. It’s hard to break through to movement from a full stop. But I want to keep learning, and doing and striving, so I’ll have to find a way.

Quinoa is an interesting texture. The mixture I got the other day was Quinoa and brown rice with olive oil and spices. The spices didn’t thrill me, but today I added a bit of mustard and it was quite tasty. I’ll have to figure out a better spice mix.

I’ve switched from a short Yoga/Tai Chi exercise regiment to 20-30 minutes of yoga and strength training and balance games on the Wii Fit. Figure that’ll do more good than what I was doing, docs keep telling me I need to build muscle to protect my joints. Also, it’s more fun. I do need something solid to go under the board though, the carpet confuses it. Either that or I really did lose 12 pounds in one day… but the bathroom scale disagrees to the tune of 20 pounds, so.

Once again on the quest for healthy, but tasty foods. I get so bored with all the normal stuff. And my teensy kitchen does not help with the desire to cook new and complicated things. Even new and simple sometimes. ::dreams of a house someday with big kitchen and counter space::

Financial year is nearly over at work, hurray for the stress of trying to do last minute catch up. We are going to meet several of our goals, but others… not so much. It’s just never enough. Ah retail.

Going to get myself a nook simple touch soon (yay credit card points). Make reading the computer books I got easier. The app just doesn’t fit well to my netbook screen. Then again, not much does. I like the little guy, is good for most of my computer work, but web design just needs bigger screens. IMHO

Busy Halloween November 3, 2011

I completely forgot to post last week with all the busy, and this week is just about as crazy. Halloween parties, a wedding, and my last two weeks working at the school. Tomorrow is my last day of that, in fact. It’s been a good run, but they have no more money to pay me with, so that’s that. Gotten a few things taken care of, have a few more to do yet. Tires are next up, been too busy to get to the shop thus far. One medical bill paid off. Another sent to collections because they stopped sending us bills, so I had nowhere to send payments. Sorting that one out via email as I type… hopefully.Β  I don’t pay collections, I pay the people we owe.

No school after this week means I’ll be getting back on my improvement plans. Both job and web design. Working six days a week meant I had no energy left over for those things. We just transferred all our domains from Rich’s job at eCommerce over to our HostGator account, so soon, everything will be in one place.

Health seems pretty stable, no noticeable improvement, or deterioration. Β  Still not eating my best. Both stress and stress eating are no good for my joints. But I’m trying to be more conscious again. Still buying appropriate groceries and eating (mostly) appropriate lunches (I did have Cheddar Bay Biscuits today). It’s sweets and dinners I don’t cook that are my weakness and downfall. It just too cold out to want salad all the time. ::excuses, excuses, excuses:: But I’m doing alright.

The Holidays are heading our way, are you ready?

Working Full Time… Sorta September 15, 2011

So, last Friday I was asked to go in for an interview on Monday to help sort out the records at the school I keep talking about. They hired me on the spot and asked me to work for four weeks at slightly better pay than B&N. So, I said sure. They asked for 20 hours a week for at least the first two weeks, and then maybe 15 after that. Thus far, I have filled all the records requests that had backed up for both the old high school records and the current grade school records. I created a handful of new files out of old files and sent out records requests for them, and I have made two alphabetized stacks of files from a box labeled “Random.” And believe you me, it lived up to its name. Hurray for productivity and learning to use a fax machine.Next two projects: getting a state and federal background check and organizing 8 sets of alphabetized files into one continuous set of files. I think I’m also supposed to make copies of last year’s records for the files, but I’m not sure if the office manager is going to do that before I’m there tomorrow.

But this also means I’m working 32-40 hours a week now (depending on B&N), and generally 6 out of 7 days a week. So,I’m exhausted. I know most people do this all the time, but I’m not used to it anymore. Also, it is significantly delaying my web design course project, as I don’t have afternoons to work on it.Β  I do still have Monster sending me job listings, but I have the search on hold for the moment, too, until I see how this pans out.

Health-wise, still on a stable plateau. My hands/wrists got eaten by something at the school yesterday, but that’s just mild itchy annoyance. I need to get more glucosamine, but I find working full time cuts into errand time quite a bit. Maybe this weekend.

Busy Family Weekend August 18, 2011

Saturday was the big day. The nieces had their 2nd and 4th birthday party, and all the family came. Five (and a half) cousins, three grandparents, three aunts and uncles, and even a great aunt and uncle. We had fruit and veggiesΒ  and chips and burgers and cake and ice cream. There were presents and games and a huge cardboard colorable castle. It was good to see everyone and be surrounded by family for an afternoon. Hadn’t seen a lot of those folks for around a year(since last year’s bday party).

Sunday was also very nice. A nice lunch with my parents and aunt and uncle, chatting and munching on cheddar bay biscuits. Mom and I went shopping after that, wandering around Easton, enjoying ourselves, but having no luck. We went to Walmart after that and found exactly what we needed. The simplest answer, usually is the best. Then a nice Italian dinner that was both delicious an pleasant. We missed our movie, but the food and time with my parents was worth it.

Re-energized by a pleasant weekend, I was able to get up early for a goodbye breakfast and quick stop at a thrift store for pants before they left for the long drive home. I spent the rest of the day being quite productive. Cleaning, taking care of finances, and running errands. Good, thing, too. The rest of the week has been far from productive.

I did sort out the FTP problem, I think. Just need to check one more thing. The school job is out, but maybe not permanently. And there might be a bit of paid temp work I can help out with there. As I said this past weekend, I really don’t mind, to the point of liking, data entry, but I’d really like it to be for something meaningful. I’m a terribly procrastinator, but I’m opening my eyes a little bit wider now.

My back is doing better. My elbow is being weird. And anniversary plans are still up in the air. This month is not yet over. πŸ™‚

Birthday Week July 21, 2011

We’re going to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 on Sunday, so I’ve been reading all the books again in preparation. I know the movies are different and cut a lot of stuff out, that’s to be expected, I just wanted to remember it all correctly before the final movie. I’m starting Deathly Hallows today. πŸ™‚

It’s a busy week for me. Two days of thrifting for clothes. A haircut. (Thank you, JoJo!) Wonderful evenings with friends and loved ones. Meals out to celebrate. A couple full 8-hour shifts at work. Lots of reading, a little writing. Even some responsible stuff at the BMV. Having a great time, and looking forward to spending my birthday with Rich and other friends at an incidental pool party between our birthday lunch and our movie endeavor.

Up next week – probably going to raid Half Price to finish out a few collections with whatever birthday money is left unspent. One more bit of editing for the gaming book. And hopefully some FTP details so I can do some more website work. As well as over 20 hours at the store.

Life is not just good, it’s great. πŸ™‚
