The semester has started and the students and winter have returned in full force. Icy mornings, and full computer banks fill my days.

This coming weekend is also DeCon, in a new hotel. And we will be full of Pirates. We have a pirate family coming, and our very own pirate artist as Guest of Honor, along with our usual shenanigans.

On a creative note, I have restarted my gaming blog, and added my NaNo project, planning to put a lot of my new writing online. This time as a separate account at WordPress: Ravonlocke.

Watching: I am up to Episode 75 of Critical Role, campaign one. Listening: I finished Mask of Shadows and started Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. Reading: I have moved on to Locke and Key v. 2, and read DIE Issue 1, a D&D + Jumanji mashup. Looking forward to A Darkened Wish. I did read the first volume of Saga over the holidays, and bought a bunch of comics on sale. And finally figured out that Chronicles of Atlantis is an Aquaman comic. (This is how little I knew before The Wednesday Club.) There is just So Much.

Well, it’s definitely winter down here in Ohio. Temperatures have plummeted, and frost and snow keep covering the cars and ground. Nothing serious, yet, but just enough to remind us of the season.

At work, I’ve finished the Guided Interviews of my Usability Study, and next week I try to tempt random volunteers for a card sort exercise. It’ll be finals week, so I don’t know if I’ll get any, but it’s worth a try. Then we have a month-long break between semesters, including an entire week+ off between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day. That will be awesome, first time ever, for me. Have already started planning family visits and gaming marathons.

Along the gaming lines, I’ve had a spectacular few weeks, having successfully completed our Marathon and finished off two campaigns. All by defeating super-powerful entities that people/cultists/dragons were trying to bring in/rise up/free to take over the world. Huzzah!

On the reading front, I’m still making my way through City of Brass, but I have quite a few thing waiting in the wings, thanks to reading Publisher’s Weekly at work. I’m still trying to make my way through Campaign 1 of Critical Role, and have made it through Episode 47 so far.

On the writing front, I’ve started writing holiday letters to people, typing up my marathon notes as though being told by the character I played, and an ever-growing backstory for my next marathon character. I’ll have another character backstory to write on Tuesday, as well. I’m still journaling, and pondering the next few scenes for my NaNo piece, too.

Thank You to all of our Veterans, for serving, sacrificing, and protecting our freedom.

Happy Birthday (yesterday) to my Brother!

On the job search front, I now have a Mentor from SAA (Society of American Archivists), and she’s great. I have filled out a questionnaire for another CML job. In a couple more weeks, I hope to hear on another application. Just keep swimming.

Work is quieter now, with the school season, but there are still the random days off, and the holidays. And, of course, the weekends. With the colder weather, there are more people coming inside to spend their time. I also got to further plans for the MLK archival boxes in a meeting with one of the wonderful community members who helped put the materials together.

Over at Sprawl, I’m still chugging right along. Boss is out of town for a another week and a half. I’ll be tackling the miscellaneous this week.

Looking forward to a busy weekend coming up, including getting to see my family next Sunday.

I finished Ship of Fools and have begun Mad Ship. The series really got me hooked in the second half of Ship of Fools.

Apparently more winter… we haven’t really Had winter yet… all the snow stopped at Boise, apparently. Ah well.

Looking forward to my new job starting in another week. Lots of shadowing and such at my current place so I’m as ready as I can be before formal training at the new location. One step forward on my path. 🙂

Time with friends this weekend. Should be lots of fun.

Finished First Lord’s Fury today. am halfway through Ghost Story. Started an anthology called Rogues, as well. Not sure what I think, yet. Got bored halfway through the first story. I’m downloading Redwall, as well.

Today is the first day of December, the first day of Advent. The weather, after briefly warming up Tuesday and Wednesday, has dropped down to winter temperatures. Tomorrow, I will be putting up the last of my curtains to keep it out. With the help of a couple friends.

I had a nice Thanksgiving weekend with the puppy. Watched a very good, very hard fought football game between UofM and OSU, on an actual TV and everything (usually, I’m seeing the poorly broadcast Gamecast on ESPN). I also got my haircut in preparation for my interview tomorrow (good thoughts, please). Not a very Good picture, but here’s what it looks like:

New Hair Cut

This weekend looks to be a quiet affair. Possibly going to watch people bowl tomorrow night. And I’ve borrowed some Lego Harry Potter Wii games from the library. 😉

I’m a good bit into Cursor’s Fury by Butcher, and I got Harm None by Sellars from Audible to listen to next. New D&D campaign has begun in a haunted puzzle house, so that was a really fun start this week.

The holiday season is fully upon us, and I’m still trying to decide about decorating.

Consistently cold weather has settled in. Bits of snow floating around occasionally in the air. There was even ice in the parking lot yesterday. Welcome to winter.

I had a great time last week celebrating the New Year with all my friends. Games, and food, and good times were had by all. My volunteer groups both met as well, to get plans for the new year rolling. All in all, things are looking great for 2016.

Now that we’re out of holiday season, I’m hoping to hear back from my applications, and apply for whatever I can find. I’ve even started a spreadsheet to keep better track. I’m also going to back to volunteering at CML’s Local History and Genealogy department to get some more rolls of the Ohio State Journal Index scanned, and working my way through some webinars.

Halfway through my first book of 2016, as well (Elrics’ were both technically last year): The Summer Tree by Guy Gavriel Key. It’s weird and intriguing… and weird. 😉

I knew it was a busy month, but where did January go?  Right then, moving forward. My PHP/MySQL workshop starts on Monday. Bought the textbook today (Sams), might borrow the various supplemental books from the library. Can’t afford four computer books, sorry Professor. Looking forward to the class, though. Session 2 of first class has begun, evaluating systems, wee fun.

Looking forward to another weekend with friends. Happy Birthday to my nephew, on Friday! Ice and snow filled this past week, but things are looking slightly better the next few days. I like winter, I just wish I didn’t have to drive in it.

Not much else to say…work, school, friends. It’s a pretty good life. 🙂

My nephew’s birthday was Wednesday. A snow day from work meant I got to call him in the morning to wish him well. He said they’d already gotten to play in the snow that morning and might go out again. Ah childhood.

I drove home in the snow Tuesday night, and got here nice and safe, only to get stuck in the parking space that was left. But it was late, so I left it. This evening, while trying to figure out if I was going anywhere, I cleaned off the car and discovered that I was still stuck. Some rocking, some melt and some cardboard were no help. A friend came to my rescue however, and I got out to a more level, less icy spot in the street.

Had a good weekend of editing and movies with friends. Class is going well, have one volunteer for my next project. Need one more. I cleaned my apartment yesterday, and applied for more library jobs. I even updated my linkedin profile, for all the good that’ll do me. Store is still trying to rebalance the shipping nightmare, but it meant I got more hours today.

All is well in this winter Ohio-land.

Including the snow and freezing cold temperatures, again. Winter is well and fully upon us. The parking lot has been stained white with salt. Pipes are bursting from the freezing temperatures, both down town(last cold snap) and at the mall (today).

School has started back up. This class looks to be very interesting, even the theory parts aren’t too bad. Big projects coming up. Got started recording my own habits a couple days this week. Our discussion groups are smaller – only 6 people per group this time. So far, so good.

DeCon was a blast, as always. Good food, good friends and good times. And a very nice night Sunday playing cards to recover from all the hard work it takes to support a convention.

Working on my tax return as I type this (well, I’m not typing in two screens at once, just waiting on the answer to a question so I can finish filing). Looks like a good refund again this year. Tickets to England in August shall be purchased soon.

Cold and ice and snow and more cold. Yay winter. 😉   Except that it makes me want to hibernate. Which I’ve let myself do a lot in this month off from school. Lots of movies and reading and playing Flow Colors. Classes start Monday, though, so back to the busy.

Applied to four new library jobs last week. People are freaking out that B&N is planning to close 20 stores a year for the next decade, or so the internets say. There are 7 B&Ns in Columbus, it seems the market’s a bit over-saturated to me, but what do I know about business.

Trying to make healthier foods, and still satiate my need for warm foods this winter. I made chili last week, but next time I need to make it spicier. Made penne and artichoke hearts today. It was quite tasty. Mixed together all the nuts and seeds I had to make my own trail mix. I must be spoiled by cheap tuna, I didn’t really like the albacore white I got the other day. More experimenting to come.

DeCon coming up next weekend. 🙂
