Had a great birthday dinner with lots of friends. Thanks to all for coming out to celebrate with me. πŸ™‚ Β My desktop is now up and running again, with a new surge protector, too. I even got a little thumb drive… that has more than twice the memory of the computer I took to college. It’s not perfect, but I can run dungeons properly now. Other updates to come, but I think the next one is a hard drive and new Windows install, which takes a bit more money and effort. A bit more birthday shopping to go – some books, maybe a movie or two and some clothes probably (thanks for the gifts family and friends). Need to check out textbooks for the fall while I’m on Amazon, too.

Busy school week coming up. I have the usual homework, plus a proposal to write and a reflection. The proposal requires I pick a topic for a literary review and find ten sources. The reflection requires I read all the articles and posts and replies on a single module. So, that’ll all be fun, and possibly interrelated.

Fun tonight and then a quiet weekend of homework and computer time. And a Happy Birthday to Marianne come Tuesday. πŸ™‚

80s over lastΒ weekend, and snow on Tuesday. What fun! We’re back into the 60s today, and beautiful weather. Ohio is definitely exciting… or something like that. πŸ˜‰

Watched a couple new (to me) movies over the weekend. Watched The Philadelphia Story and Kinky Boots with friends, both very good and very entertaining. Then went to see Captain America Winter Soldier by myself. Also a very good movie. Though debate rages over whether I should watch SHIELD episodes.

Started my database driven website workshop this week. Learning new things about Access and SQL. All is good. πŸ™‚ only just over two weeks left in the semester. Excited for the summer. They say the bill will be arriving next week. Once again, gratitude to my parents for their assistance in this new chapter in my life.

On the gaming front, I lost my character on Tuesday. Time to test out a new combination in the new system next week. And I’m considering returning to World of Warcraft – as a more social alternative to the hours I spend watching Netflix. We shall see.

Hope everyone is having a good week, and has a Happy Easter on Sunday!

All my Penguin Minions

I got the critter bites recipe in WoW today, and made an entire iceberg of penguins into myΒ  minions for three minutes. It was fun. πŸ™‚

I sent out two emails yesterday about jobs. One editing, one for data entryish. We’ll see what comes back from those. The store is doing alright by me for hours most weeks. Though sometimes in big chunks, so fewer days, which can be fun, or odd, or boring, depending. πŸ˜‰

I’m looking for parks to go play in on Mondays, have had a few nearby suggested. So, that should be fun. Take some time to get away from the technology and just relax. Maybe get in some stargazing. I haven’t pulled my telescope out in over a decade.

Lots of events coming up this summer. Family trips, conventions, birthdays, anniversaries, picnics. I’m looking forward to having a great summer.

This weekend, we’re going to see Prometheus, in Imax 3D. Not a fan of the latter myself, but the technology keeps improving, so hopefully it’ll just be awesome and not headache inducing.

Reading Road to the Patriarch still. I love the characters, but I’m not sure I like how the story is playing out. We’ll see where it goes from here. May have to move on to Catching Fire next. Not sure. So much to read.

Been eating better, too, this week. Lots of salad and only a little pizza. πŸ˜‰

Summer is hitting full force. This past weekend we were hitting the 90 degree mark and occasionally passing it. The humidity came right along with it, too. Therefore, I stayed inside pretty much all the time. We didn’t get to go rollerblading like we hoped, nor out to Hocking Hills for a hike. It was too hot. A whole bunch of my friends, however, braved the heat for a camping trip. I was sad I could not go, but there were other things to take care of. By all accounts, it was a great time, with games and s’mores and smoked meats of various varieties. They’ve all told me I have to go next year. I’ll have to plan better so that I can. πŸ™‚

I, instead, spent quite a lot of time playing WoW. I’m now level 80, and flying quite fast. Leveling goes far too quickly these days. I have so much more of Northrend yet to do, since I’ve never done it before. And yet, they’re trying to send me on, because I’ve outleveled most of the content. I’m stubborn though, and quite alright with doing grey or green level quests, and hitting max before I even get to Cataclysm content.Β  I’m also up to 64 pets. So close to the next milestone of 75. But there are 150, so quite a lot left to do there. Enjoying all the fishing and cooking and archeology, too. And 5 short of the next mount achievement of 50, as well.

Coming up: Father’s Day, Birthdays, Anniversaries, trips and conventions. A busy summer indeed.

I’ve pretty much been ill with a cold and cough since my last post. It’s getting better, but it’s still not gone. So there has been lots of hot apple cinnamon herbal tea with a Mexican cinnamon stick for extra spice. And some OJ and Sprite for the vitamin C. And the first few days, some Alka Seltzer Cold. I did do Wheat Grass Juice on Monday, but it just drained my nose into my chest. Nearly gone though, I shall prevail.

Nearly May, and Mother’s Day and ten years since I graduated from Denison. Our reunion is in June, and right now we’re trying to sort out which of the Betonians are able to come and what we’ll do. So many so far away (we Miss you!) or with brand new babies. Congrats to all the new (or second time) parents! We’ll miss you, too.

Also going to Sage’s release party tomorrow, her book: Love Sucks is being released tomorrow by Musa Publishing. In any eBook format you could possibly want. Congrats Sage!

Rich and I did give in and start playing WoW for real again. I’m almost to 50 pets, and and have 33 mounts. But I’ve gotta learn to play Plants vs Zombies better. Considering rezzing my old account and combining it with my new one, but we’ll see. Might be too much effort. Might not.

Still waiting on contract from Mongoose Publishing. Really excited for the chance to work with them. πŸ™‚ They’re super busy, though, so I’m patient.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time on WoW lately, and I just wanted to share with you why. These are the 23 pets I have collected so far, and no, they are not shown in their correct respective sizes, but the size at which I could capture them easily on screen.Β  The Treant is the largest, and is in fact about twice as big as my gnome character.

Bad Omens and Lion Cubs March 8, 2012

So, not much more to report. Weather steadily heading towards spring. Just two more calendar weeks to go. My boss declared is spring today because she saw a bunny. Managing to stay ahead of the flu and such going around that the state health board has been calling our store to warn us about. Fighting off a cold this week and ducking strep.

Just about done with The Omen Machine, by Terry Goodkind. I’ve just a couple chapters left, in his usual, hurry up and solve everything quickly after dragging it out over the rest of the book. The story is interesting, all our favorite characters are back. But the writing is just bad. Redundancy is the most prevalent problem. He keeps repeating himself, not just because similar things are happening, but paragraph after paragraph. It’s just odd. I really want to go back and re-read Wizard’s First Rule to remind myself why I really liked his books. But Amy still has my copy.

This week is the Darkmoon Faire in WoW. Basically a carnival. I worked very, very (some might say ridiculously) hard to do ALL of the trade skill quests (except archaeology), so I could get enough prize tickets for a lion cub pet. He’s so cute! I also fished a sea pony pet off the docks. πŸ™‚ I haven’t managed a sea turtle yet, but I keep trying a little here and there. Wondering if Rich wants to run dungeons and battle grounds to get me more tickets asΒ  don’t like those things.Β  There are so many pets and mounts to buy with tickets, but they’re expensive.

Heading to a party in Cleveland this weekend with friends. Should be a good time. St. Pat’s next weekend. I miss Ireland. One of these days, I promise, I’ll make it back to WarpCon.

Cooking and Fishing March 1, 2012

So, just for fun, I signed up for the Free Starter Edition of World of Warcraft about a week and a half ago. I was having a craving and figured I’d get bored long before I wanted to start paying for it. There’s a level cap and a gold cap and a professions cap, and you can’t trade, auction or mail anything. But they didn’t actually cap the non-profession skills. So, after getting to all the other caps, I’ve been running up my fishing and cooking skills, and getting achievements and pets. I have a bunny, a balloon, two parrots, three kittens, and a few owls. I caught Old Ironjaw in Ironforge and snuck into Orgrimmar to catch Old Crafty. I explored around Stranglethorn at lvl 20 so I could catch enough fish to cook to get to Master cooking. It’s been fun, I’ve got some more sneaking to do to max cooking out. Then maybe some exploring achievements to accomplish. First Aid isn’t going to get maxed because I can’t even begin to kill the higher mobs to get their cloth, but I might make it through silk, maybe. If I don’t get bored. I really want a ram, though. πŸ˜‰

Further into The Omen Machine, and again, while I love Goodkind’s characters, and the plot isn’t a terrible one, the writing in this book leaves much to be desired. It’s disappointing.

One more medical bill down, two to go. Have to get the next one sorted on Monday when the billing lady gets back to the office. The big one seems to still be in limbo, no letter or call from the medical collections agency yet. They didn’t have the bill when I called. Got a random collection letter on a 9 year old Sprint bill out of the blue. That’s taken care of, just wow, took them long enough.

Weather is still really weird. Thunder and tornadoes and 70 degree weather in February. What will March bring?

Still no winter. There Was snow one day, but it melted the next and didn’t really affect much. It’s in the mid forties this week, and though the forecast said rain, it’s bright and sunny out right now. I don’t mind not having bad driving conditions, but I like having some nice snowy days.

Mirena this week. One defective device, and five attempts and I’m all set. They tell me that in three months I’ll be grateful. That’s the plan body, stick to it.

Finished watching Numb3rs. Good show. Got some reading in, almost done with The Ghost King. Started playing the free starter edition of WoW. It’s really restricted, but I get to see what happened to the world since Cataclysm hit. At least the lower level parts of the world.

Starting to plan our summer trips. And by starting, I mean acknowledging where and when we want to go. πŸ˜‰Β  I also sent in for a new passport yesterday. No idea when I’ll get to use it, but better now than when already planning a trip and needing it in a hurry.

Rich just got his tablet. I’m enjoying the netbook, using it next to the desktop a lot these days and wishing I had a multiple screen setup. Some day, when we have a house and more space. Ah, dreams. πŸ™‚
