Bad Omens and Lion Cubs March 8, 2012

So, not much more to report. Weather steadily heading towards spring. Just two more calendar weeks to go. My boss declared is spring today because she saw a bunny. Managing to stay ahead of the flu and such going around that the state health board has been calling our store to warn us about. Fighting off a cold this week and ducking strep.
Just about done with The Omen Machine, by Terry Goodkind. I’ve just a couple chapters left, in his usual, hurry up and solve everything quickly after dragging it out over the rest of the book. The story is interesting, all our favorite characters are back. But the writing is just bad. Redundancy is the most prevalent problem. He keeps repeating himself, not just because similar things are happening, but paragraph after paragraph. It’s just odd. I really want to go back and re-read Wizard’s First Rule to remind myself why I really liked his books. But Amy still has my copy.
This week is the Darkmoon Faire in WoW. Basically a carnival. I worked very, very (some might say ridiculously) hard to do ALL of the trade skill quests (except archaeology), so I could get enough prize tickets for a lion cub pet. He’s so cute! I also fished a sea pony pet off the docks. 🙂 I haven’t managed a sea turtle yet, but I keep trying a little here and there. Wondering if Rich wants to run dungeons and battle grounds to get me more tickets as don’t like those things. There are so many pets and mounts to buy with tickets, but they’re expensive.
Heading to a party in Cleveland this weekend with friends. Should be a good time. St. Pat’s next weekend. I miss Ireland. One of these days, I promise, I’ll make it back to WarpCon.
Packing a Library June 9, 2011

I finished step one of packing today – the books. It took 45 boxes this time. Some small, but still heavy, some a little too big, and very heavy. The DVDs, VHS and video games are almost all packed, too. Just a few stragglers left. The pewter is all packed, except for the thimble, stubbornly hiding in a tower crenelation. Office stuff and knickknacks are next on the list. I’ve got some really big boxes for bedroom and kitchen stuff, but have nearly run out of smaller boxes for “other” again. We’re probably going to get storage tubs in the next couple days for the stuff that’s going to go into the basement of the new place. That’ll free up some boxes if I repack into them a bit. Still working out the final logistics of the day – trucks/vans, volunteers, getting the lease signed, and the keys in hand. I may have to ask someone to take my shift that morning. Need to find out when the leasing office opens. I know they have limited Showing hours on the weekend.
What else is new? I’m going to start working on a friend’s website next week. Officially, paid and everything. I’ve been waiting on this job for months. Must fix the mess the last person she hired made. Yes, I’ll link to it after it’s pretty and working properly.
Registering for BaCon tonight. Bacon and Gaming convention put together by friends. Should be a fun time. Haven’t actually gamed at a convention in years. Gotta get back to WarpCon some day, too. Hmm, passports. Really gotta get those soon.

I really do need to get back to Ireland some day. Preferably during one of the many gaming conventions, most preferably, during WARPCon. But not just for the fun and silliness of gaming and raising a glass with old friends. I really didn’t get to see much of the country last time because I was a student. We did do a bit of rambling, thank you Brian and Brian, but there is still more I want to see. England, too for that matter, I only saw a university campus when I was there last time. Some day. 🙂
On the idea of goals and dreams, I sent in my resume to WOTC for freelance editing, just in case they’re looking for any. They’re putting out a lot of material these days, I figured it was worth a shot. Especially as I now have experience in the field, unlike last time I applied, straight out of college. I also put my name in the hat for a web design opportunity through a friend. We’ll see if anything comes of that. Excited about finding new opportunities, anyway.
Had a zag this past weekend celebrating with friends in Cleveland for the 25th anniversary of their ship. Trying to be good until April now. At least mostly good. Supplementing boredom with fruit, I’ve got bananas and cuties on the shelf now. Looking at a blender for smoothies, but I don’t have money for that right now.
One of the offices that my records show us owing money to, called us back and left a message to say they owed Us money instead and are sending us a check. I tried to call them back today, but after over an hour on hold I had to go to work. Maybe they’ll send a statement with the check. I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I also don’t want to turn around and get bitten in the butt by it. Really want to get these debts taken care of, but must have a massive change in income to do that. We are working on that as best we can, though. Prayers, good thoughts and any contacts or leads would be appreciated. 😉
