Had a great time with Mom this past weekend. We ate a lot and shopped a lot and watched a lot of movies. We discovered Redbox movie rental when the dollar theater failed us (no longer showing the movies I wanted to share with her). Friday we had Red Lobster and Roosters, went grocery shopping, got my car’s oil changed and serpentine belt replaced, and watched Les Miserables and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Saturday we went to the spa and had massages and mani/pedis, and ate catered Panera for lunch. We went shopping for jeans and shoes, went to Olive Garden for dinner and then watched Skyfall in the evening. Sunday we went to church in the morning and then headed to Easton to see Oz the Great and Powerful. While watching the previews, Mom discovered that there was a Star Trek reboot, so that evening we watched the new Star Trek movie, while polishing off the leftovers from the weekend. We also watched Bourne Legacy while she made me lots of Chex Mix in the afternoon.

Monday morning we went off to my new eye doctor, Dr. Suh, and ordered new glasses, with a slightly stronger left lens. They gave me a grid to put on my fridge to check for macular degeneration (I don’t think the assistant believes I’ll come back next year, as it had been 8 since my Last appointment with an eye doc).  Then we had breakfast at First Watch (mmm delicous waffles). After breakfast, we did a little bit of shopping, during which we discovered that at Whole Foods, you can buy cinnamon sticks in bulk for $6.99/lb instead of in a jar for $4-$5/oz. Back home to have some leftover Cheddar Bay biscuits for lunch and Mom headed off to see my brother. All in all, and excellent weekend with Mom.

Rest and Cleaning April 18, 2013

I’ve spent most of this past week cleaning the apartment and resting from the run up of events the previous weekends. I’ve got the pretty glassware and china back out and displayed. I’ve got all my scifi/fantasy books on one bookcase(obviously, I need to get more books 😉 ). I’ve organized the nonfiction books by dewey decimal. And I even pulled out the vacuum and brooms.

Why, you ask?  Mom’s coming to visit for the weekend. We’re going to have a great time. We’ve got movies and shopping and eating and even a trip to the spa on the books. (Her first time, and my first mani/pedi.) Some stress relief amidst the unfruitful job hunt.

Still no luck there. Not even a call for an interview on any of my apps, yet. But I’m hopeful, and I keep on trying. A lot of friends have been doing more schooling lately, I’m still debt-phobic on that front, but sometimes I wonder if it would be worth it after all.

Got back to my RA doc this week, too. Got a script for Naproxen, so I can have proper dosage instead of downing a handful of Aleve when the wrist gets annoying. And back on plaquenil, too. So, we’ll see if we can drop down the annoyance some.

On another note: Remember you’re beautiful.

Spent the weekend pet sitting for my friends. The kitty was very cranky at me for cuddling the puppy, so he mostly ignored me all weekend. Pup only ignored me when I watched tv, and he wanted to be upstairs watching the road. But we had a good weekend together, and some nice romps in the backyard. I watched the entire first season of CSI, so that was fun.

Mom and I are working out the details for her weekend visit. Truth be told, she’s doing most of the work, and I’m doing most of the waffling. Thanks, Mom!  But I’m looking forward to her visit next weekend.

This weekend is nothing much, a break from a month of fleet events in a row. Probably going out with friends tomorrow evening, but then probably just hanging around the apartment the rest of the time. Get some cleaning done, some reading done, maybe some writing. Weather’s dropping back down to chilly, so probably won’t go for the outdoor route.

Networking more, but still waiting to hear back from a lot of job applications. Library seems to be the way to go. The other stuff I like to do for fun, and perhaps killing the joy in them would be less ideal.

Good Weekend, Time to Sleep April 4, 2013

Had a great weekend with my friends at MARCon this past weekend. We hosted our usual excellent party, with red and blue of tastiness. The music was great and the dancefloor stayed full all night. Thanks to all who made the party possible and kept it running smoothly.

Easter, I spent exhausted, and bored. I worked my first Sunday in over three years, and the place was dead, due to the rest of the mall being closed. But we carried on, and when I got home, it wasn’t too late to call my parents and wish them a Happy Easter, and Mom a Happy Birthday. And, thanks to some friends, I had a brand new (to me) bed to sleep in that night, too.

I am doing a bit more work on that “take care of me” thing, and bought a bunch of veggies this week. Even made and ate the Kale with Peanut Sauce (almond, really). And I have stuff for stir fry and stew. Making veggies and rice as I type, today.

This weekend will be for relaxing. As fleet heads to Kentucky for ConGlomeration, I am staying behind to puppy-sit. Such a cute, cuddly puppy, who could resist? Hoping to also get some writing done, but may just cuddle and sleep.
